That is tragic. I hope you can hold on. I know I would be devastated were that to happen to me.

Look out the window and see the Starbucks on the corner opposite you. Phew!

    Steve, I am.

    Ian - Starbucks? Here? LMAO.

I have one of those coffeemakers with the mesh filter instead of having to buy filters - so I just dumped the coffee in a pan of water and heated it - then strained it into another pan. Thank God for a mom and dad who taught me survival skills. I'm going to get through this one without having to go into town on a Sunday!

Sal, so glad to hear the crisis has been averted and we don't have to talk you down from the ledge...! Phew!!

I keep a jar of instant coffee around for when the coffee maker craps out. After one cup of that crap I'm out the door to replace the coffee maker

Sal, those disaster survival skills really do come in handy. I know your pain, it seems like every 1-1/2 to 2 years, we are replacing the coffee pot (electric drip), even expensive ones, so no more of those pricey ones! Cheap ones seem to last just as long.

Husband has an old aluminum perk and I still have my dad's copper and steel perk we drag out when the darn drip breaks and I keep a supply of filters just for them. I also learned not to have just an electric range for whenever the electric goes out--and for some stupid reason, we are in an area when it can go out too often for no weather reason at all.

I think our worst outtage was around 26 hours in single digit weather, but we had some firewood and a fireplace. Unfortunately, the fireplace isn't set up to hang a kettle. Hmmm, if I ever get another house, that would be something to think about having.

A gas range (and matches) means we still get coffee--set it up as usual, then slowly pour measured boiling water over the coffee in the filter. I guess we could have boiled the coffee, but I have no idea how long to keep it there before filtering.

Dan - I'll probably get an espresso maker. I love latte.

For camping I like the old fashioned percolators and, of course, a thermos for the remainder. Unfortunately - it's already packed and I'm not going to try to tear everything apart to find it.

I was kind of tongue and cheek with all the links.

Reminded me of when I was looking for an insulated, stainless steel French Press.
This was back when I was a courier, in my truck for 12 hours a day, and the convenience
stores did not always have good coffee.

I have the Coleman somewhere, but it's not insulated.

Tongue-in-cheek? About COFFEE? How dare you, sir. Your blasphemy is outrageous and offensive.

Cali - I'm in the middle of packing to move. I'm still on a ledge. I just have some coffee to keep me from pushing a roomie off it. LOL.

How nice of you, Jody. The shipping would probably cost more than the coffee maker. Actually - my only qualm right now about getting a new one is that I'm in the process of packing to move and I don't want to get another one before I get there. It will just take up space right now.

Thanks for thinking of me, though.

Don't worry Sal, I've gone my entire life without coffee, and I've made it pretty far.

Maybe this is a sign, Sal ?

Ha - don't even think it. Ya know that coffee helps control asthma and allergies and has 33 elements in it that are actually medicinal? I have negative blood and the acid doesn't bother me unless I start in on pots a day. I won't ever give up my coffee willingly.

Ha! My Filipina wife put the coffee in the water reservoir and burned up my pot. I'm back to instant. Thinking about if she can screw that up?!
