Frank Kern and his Transformation

Yeah I was just checking out a video earlier this morning from an email he sent

I know Frank had cut his hair a while back but I really have not paid a whole lot of attention.

Today's video he is driving in his BMW and he looks really, really professional and very sharp with a nice suit etc...
I always thought in the Past he seemed like a nerd. But not anymore

What a turnaround from 4 or 5 years ago

That's interesting - would be a big change.

But smart, too, as he can now appeal to a different demographic.

I never thought of Kern as a nerd - I thought he was a slob. It was that same laid-back persona that drew other people to him but it had the opposite effect on me.

The sloppy Surfer Dude was the act. The serious businessman is the real guy. I watched him on stage several times, and he slips out of character, if you watch closely.

He was always a sharp businessman (at least when he did speaking on stage).

He used the surfer dude persona to "be like one of us". Eventually, he got tired of the people he was attracting, with that persona. Now, he deals with real business people, not "internet millionaire wannabes". The surfer dude persona was to make it look like slovenly time wasting losers...can make it big in internet marketing. That was the act.

When you see him on stage, swearing, joking....and just talking in a laid back...off the cuff..kind of way? That talk is perfectly, tightly scripted. A truly brilliant platform salesman. One of the very best in the business.

Yes, l have to admit that l have a soft spot for Frank, (he sent me some free software as well as plenty of videos) but these days, groan!

I liked the laid back surfer dude persona, don't like the short haircut, business one!

And l know the blond hair, t-shirt was an act, (if you look at what he looked like, before the surfer dude concept).

But he lives in Long Beach, California, and does surf, as well as being rich, so l will keep track of his emails.

Might check this video out, sounds good!

But it is also true, that most of the advise he gives, is see-spot-run, stuff, or read between the lines.

Not, l will walk you through how to make a bundle using this, (which is what we all want).

I used to watch his videos, daily, but most of them have been pulled, so l have moved on!

I think it also bears noting that Paul is one of those guys that did have Success outside the MMO and IM Niche.

It has been duly substantiated of Frank being highly profitable with Dog Training Niche ( in PPC)

Frank changed a bit after getting knocked around by the FTC years ago. He got a whole lot more laid back, went surfing, re-made his millions, etc. But he was always sharp. Part of the surfer persona came when the I.M. world started taking off and those "overnight success" people all talked about living the rock star lifestyle. Served him well.

No surprise. He would probably shave all his hair and dress in dhotis if he thought it would make him a few bucks.... Don't really care for the man myself...

So superficial. You think a suit can hide the slobby nerd? Think again. It's the same man just wrapped up a little differently. The clothes don't make the man.

Don't know. But I know in the business world in which many people work in
...they would beg to differ about how you look and dress.

I think him getting older influenced the change. I love the dude but he was like a 40 year old dressing like a 15 year old kid lol

Nontheless Frank is one of my all time favs!

    1. The comments are so superficial they deserve a who cares response.

    2. It means you were not aware of what Frank looked like before he "transformed" himself into being a long-haired surfer dude for marketing / branding purposes, and moved from Georgia to California.

    3. Those calling him a slob and this is a change from the 'real him' are being disrespectful, off-base, not giving credit where credit is due, and IMHO miss the big marketing lesson. Times change. Target markets change. Kids get older. Marketing changes.

Frank Kern was the epitome of the small town boy who done good character. When he moved from Georgia to San Diego, his character changed in to the laid back surf's up dude because that was when internet marketing was based almost entirely on perceived personality. It still is to some extent, but its harder to differentiate now.

Now he's got multi million dollar clients like Tony Robbins and by extension Brendon Burchard, some of the major people in the self-improvement world. And he lives in La Jolla (I am pretty sure about this, if not there then in the foothills, up where Louise Hay, Tony Robbins and Esther Hicks lives) andd that is a way different place to be than beach side in Encinitas.

He is changing his brand to more about business coaching and consulting on a professional level . Instead of being a laid back internet marketing coaching person. Less laid back and more of a corparate persona.

Yeah he changed a lot. It's his new way of branding himself.

Personally, I don't care about his new look. He's a great marketer, influencer, teacher and one of the reasons why I started doing IM.

Kern is brilliant, his webinars are the world's top in IM. I've learned a lot from him. There's layers of sophistication and savvy in what he does that are fascinating to learn from.

Superficial is what I thought when I saw my first Kern video. It was a very popular video - he was cavorting on the beach in the "internet lifestyle" and goofing around. Didn't appeal to me.

I would have no knowledge of what he was before the surfer dude persona but I didn't think that was anything but a persona.

That's not to take away from his brilliance in marketing or his amazing success. Just proves not everyone will be a follower no matter how good you are.

I have no taste - I didn't like the Rich Jerk, either

What many of you don't know is that before he was the "sloppy surfer dude", he looked much like he does now. In fact he looked a lot nerdier before becoming the surfer dude. He made millions back then, and he makes millions now. The guy knows his stuff, trust me.

Frankly (see what I did there? ) if you actually met and knew Frank, you'd like him immediately. He is a pretty genuine guy who helps MANY people. But like many "guru's" he's an easy target for certain types people - including a few in this thread

I re-read my post. I hope it didn't come across as anything but admiration for his marketing methods. I study great speakers, and he's one of the best.

I've never talked to him privately. And I'll take your word for what he's like as a person. I just admire his ability to appear "off the cuff". It fooled me (meaning I thought it was off the cuff), until I watched a video, by him, explaining his methodology. It was an approach I wasn't used to.

And he looks at easy on stage. It's a rare quality.

He looks okay corporate style, but he should have left his hair long. I don't see anything "beach bum" or non-establishment about long hair. A lot of men look better with it in my eyes.
