Huge Winter Storm event to hit the North East US in the next 2 days.

we're only going to get around 15 centimetres of snow - apparently on Thursday -
good - it is winter after all - I can't stand the half-assed winter we get that is usually just gray and dirty here -
I love how everything looks with a fresh blanket of white snow - it looks beautiful -

so - I guess what I am saying is bring it on - snow puts people to work around here - so it's good for the economy too

Frank - I feel the same way. I can't remember how many days that we didn't have to go to school when I was in High School because it snowed too heavy the night before. To parents it was a major pita - to us kids it was heaven sent. We spent those days making tunnels, snow forts, snow men and other art, and going to the local hill to toboggan. Now it's highly covered news events and just one more indication we need to pay more taxes. Right.

Well, I bawled out a store here today. I parked in my favorite area, and I tend to test traction first. IT FAILED! I THEN drove closer, tested, IT FAILED! I drove to the back, and there was like a tiny oasis. I tried it, LUCKILY it worked. The salesperson didn't care, and said they would be there to plow. ******THAT****** was the problem! If they didn't plow, it would be FINE! If they plow, they should add salt and sand. If someone succumbs to their negligence, that storecould be gone by the end of the year.

They are implying that it will only last a few hours here, but say it could snow 4-6 inches an hour. It is expected to start tomorrow. Over the last few hours, it probably snowed about 4-6 inches. On the way back from the store I spoke of, I traveled a kind of moderate traffic road. I lost full control of the car, so I turned the way to get to where I was going, and realized it was too dangerous with the traction I had, so I had to turn the other way. I ended up having to do a FULL stop to avoid a fence. I tried to back out, but couldn't, so I had to travel down a bad road and attempt a 3 point turn on a bad road with limits I could only guess at. LUCKILY, I got back on my way. Oh well, if need be, I can last a couple months. For power, I could maybe handle high power for 1.5 hours, but I haven't gotten that aspect of my backup plan yet.

NYers, I would think are used to one or two blizzards every winter. They used to be anyway. NY gets hammered.

We here in Canada eh! if 2 feet or less of snow we put on the old snow shoes and use one of them there weed wackers it's not till it gets up to 3 feet we bring out the snowblower.

WHAT HAPPENED!?!?!?!? They made it sound like today and tomorrow would be a DISASTER! ALSO, it looks like they are predicting that places like boston will get what we got yesterday. That storm was bad in the high intensity over a short time, but not nearly as bad as today was supposed to be. NOW weather.com is forecasting a 60% chance of snow on thursday here. Currently, it is sunny!

Picked up ramen, hot chocolate mix and the makings for a terrific chicken soup. Soup is simmering and we're all ready for the storm.

Didn't know they were talking about high winds. What mph is it that will break a record? I don't remember particularly high winds outside of tornadoes back there. Out here in the west, high winds are actually high winds -- would be called gales or hurricanes if over water. Over land out here they are usually sand storms and play hell with windshields.

The wind coming down into NV from the Sierras reaches 100 mph now and again - 60 to 80 is common wind storm - and occasionally there's the 125 mph gusters.

When I lived in Empire we had a few monster wind storms - star shaped valley used to get some hearty winds normally in season. Yet NV is the only place I've ever been that the wind was so strong it literally swept me off my feet. I got out to get gas and got flattened. A gentleman at the next pump told me to get back in the car and pumped my gas for me.

Anyhow -- like I said, I've never ever seen winds all that high back east unless there was a tornado attached to them.

I'm here at Ground Zero at the Jersey Shore and it does appear that we're getting less than the 8372 feet projected. I think there's about 12 inches outside my house - waiting to see what today will bring.

And in other news, here's two not-exactly-wild moose this morning:

about 6 inches at the min and I'm right in the heart of the Maximum snow zone in NJ. 5.22am plough woke me up. That said I get a pro weather forecast and it's coming bad, Light has now dropped due to increasing snowfall. I fully expect 2ft possibly more, But I ski every day so like I give a F**k!

Only 2-3 inches last night in the northern suburbs outside the nation's capital.

I'll do the sidewalk in front of my home myself but not the drive way, and save $40 bucks and get a bit of exercise in the bargain.

Glad I took too pics. Already gone. Sun came out. Snow is gone now. lol.

Well, it appears that it was WAY (excuse the pun) OVER BLOWN! ANOTHER thing, I DID say it looked like people were going to get what I got on sunday! And I DID say that was about 4-6"! I guess I predicted better than the meteorologists!

As for HERE? Still sunny! I guess we can call the all clear on this for now.

We were supposed to get up to 2 feet (lower NY state) but yippee! We only got about 4 inches. Only took me about 40 minutes to clear the driveway and the sidewalk.
