Let's see if I can do this without losing it...
I immediately bathed her in tepid water to try and get her fever down, dried her off and held her, talked to her, and loved her for several hours. Her "huffing" due to her kennel cough that I was treating her for was worsening. I got her antibiotic and part of a baby aspirin down. I then began giving her water and alternating with pedialite with an medicine dropper.
She a bit later began to shiver so I called Connie from CCRC and she told me that both her little brother Lucian, the runt and her sister that had just recovered from parvo came down with the same thing late in the afternoon the day before. They drew blood and were waiting for the results and were suspecting it may be the Canine Flu although there was only 1 confirmed case in Michigan, in Macomb County. This came on fast and furious with her siblings too. She advised me to take Lexi to the animal hospital which is also her vet as her siblings were there.
Lexi, bless her heart, still would bark when she had to go, but she was so weak, I had to hold her while she did.
Anyway, once there, they did x-rays and Lexi has double pneumonia, worse in the left lung and just starting in the right with a little pleurisy.
CCRC will pay for 24 hours of care, and then it is up to us. The problem is, after having to replace a point in the well, we have wiped out our savings now. I don't know what I'm going to do.Anyway, the doctor told us they weren't sure she would make it through the night. They put an I.V. in her, with another antibiotic, a steroid and an anti-inflamatory. I had to leave her and it was so hard.
Anyway, they texted us with a couple of pics around 9 last night and told us her fever had broke and she was resting comfortably. I got another text with a pic of her eating this morning letting me know that Lexi ate very well this morning, but was still very tired and the doctor would call me later on.
I determined to stay up last night holding a prayer vigil for her, but I somehow fell asleep.
Sorry I'm rambling on...
I just want to ask you all once again for your prayers, good thoughts, well wishes, positive energy and the crossing of your fingers for her. There is power in numbers and she needs all the help she can get.
And now, it's the waiting for a call from the doctor that is killing me.
I think I need to go find something else to clean to keep my mind occupied.
Thank you all in advance! I appreciate each and every one of you.
