Been a long time, need help from a regular

Folks,

I was a member of the War Room a couple of years ago. Life happened and I'm now back after a long absence. I believe that the site was acquired by 'a freelancer company' or by someone else and they took it over. Things are a bit different now, or else my memory is bad.

Used to be, one was a war room member for life. Did that go away? I can't get in. Might have had a different username back then, but did they grandfather the old guys in for life or start charging them?

Warriors for hire: I have a skill which I wish to promote*, and so for fun wrote an ad. Then I find that they want $20 to post it. Maybe its always been that way... but I wonder if I'm likely to make that back. I suppose for $20 I can try (and the huge number of posts there suggest that folks *do* make their $20 back). This would be a technical service to the group here, rather than an 'add water make a million' system or training or access to a guru.

Seems like less of a helpful club and more of a commercial squeeze now. Is there still a pony in here somewhere? Thoughts?

* being vague here so as not to use this as a back door version of Warriors for Hire

    On reflection, I see a tremendous number of 'I'll help you with SEO' and such ads, but very few to none for what I offer. I may have my answer.

      Question - why don't you set up a page on your site or blog for your services and then simply add a link to that page in your Signature file?

      The more active you are here in the forum, helping others, etc., the more people may want to visit your site.

    Those of us who were already War Room members prior to Freelancer buying the forum still are. If you joined when it was still a lifetime (or 20 year?) membership, you still are. However, you're going to have to access it via your old username and password. If you can't remember that, then I'd suggest submitting a request to the Help Desk. If you don't recall your username, then they may be able to retrieve your account info with your email (unless that's changed as well). But if you can't access it, it's most likely because you aren't using the correct username or password.

    All that being said, last I heard the War Room is currently set up to be a renewable yearly membership for $97 (that change was made by the new owners).
