A Leap Second Will Be Added To Time Today

Leap Second 2015

Why will a leap second be added today?

Because Atomic Time Is Too Accurate

The reason the time masters in France have to add a leap second every now and then, is that Earth's rotation around its own axis, is gradually slowing down, although very slowly.

Atomic clocks, however, are programmed to tick away at pretty much the same speed over millions of years. Compared to the Earth's rotation, the atomic clocks are simply too accurate.

So a leap second needs to be added to compensate.

You will spend that extra second doing Jiggery Pokery and other applesauce.

Why do you tease me about eating so much? I honestly don't eat more than the average family.

Honestly, I really don't have a second to waste contemplating this kind of useless BS.

Not really 'teasing,' Claude. Consider it more of an intervention.

Can someone explain to me why it is a leap second rather than just merely a second as the definition of leap is jump or spring a long way, to a great height, or with great force.

That must be the most forceful second ever measured in time being able to jump a long way up to a great height with great force, I'm thinkin'.

So I guess I can say, May the force be with you.

It's derived from "leap year", which I'm sure you know is so-called because it means fixed feast days such as Christmas which normally advance one weekday each year, leap ahead an extra day every four years or so.

They probably felt it would be more familiar to call it a "leap second" than, say, a "nudge second".

Terra; Please don't get confused. This "Leap Second" is the neophyte way of explaining the Quantum mechanical fusion of time/space. Scientists call it a Quantum Leap.

On Earth, we only measure this "leap second" as one second. But that is relative to our position in space, angular velocity, and retrogression through the orbital oscillation vector

You see, in the para-genetic residence spectrum, the iso-propyl radical is hyperengineered to transcend the emergence of the transitory dynosphere.

We are in a transcendental hyperloop, during this second. So, what feels like a second to us, is actually an eternity to the sub-atomic conscious beings, we are calling Quarks.

              Spoken like a true Psychic

You forgot to mention that the Dysonsphere works in a ball shaped Vacuum, sucking in all loose matter into it's gravitational cyclonic vortex. Matter that surfs the event horizon however manages to Riccarchet off, only to be mopped up by Sweeper Stars.

These stars also suffer time dilation effects however and often move from a regular 10-5 matrix, especially on Saturdays where they tend to collapse early, especially if a flow of Marvel Imaged celluloid is showing in nearby 2 dimensional space. Sometimes three dimensional although can only be detected with special ocular implants.

Well, it IS kind of funny. They add something equivalent to a bit less than 6 hours a year, and they are worried about a second! I mean a day nearly every 4 years. I am PRETTY sure they taught us, in school, it was a day every 4 years, but that is true only about 0.9975% of the time! SO, what they taught us was true for most people old enough to be my grandparents(Most see 1 rule, maybe 2), but I, and my parents, lived long enough to see THREE!

Rush Limbaugh today claimed that google and some other things CRASHED the last time they had a leap second. INCREDIBLE! WHAT needs that kind of precision on an absolute level? I mean things like sanity counters, jiffys, etc... may be VERY high precision, but they are RELATIVE! A second is always a second, so it never gets adjusted. It isn't relative to a planetary event, but relative to its precise start. So WHY would something like google crash?

One is to keep our clocks in synch with a natural day; the other, to keep our calendars in synch with a natural year.

There is some argument for the "why bother?" option, and simply allow the natural day and natural year to (very) slowly rotate out of synch with our artificial-but-more-accurate time keepers. But people tend to get nostalgic, which I suspect ends up being the primary reason for the leap day and the leap second.
