Seriously, I just wandered upstairs for a moment. It's never going to get better is it?

Think that's bad? Check out the copywriting (or what used to be) sub forum.

So basically, I'm checking in here and occasionally get something out of the offline forum or the high voltage video forum.

Other than that, it's just to banter down here. But even down here, the state of WF has a lot of long time members (and some new ones) that I enjoy seemingly growing more frustrated/cranky by the day (and I'm right there with them).

I was always fond of WF as a bit of a guilty pleasure. But that was because I could usually at least find something of value on each visit. Lately it's become more of a productivity throttling distraction. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the OT and the people in it.

Think I'm going to join Claude in drive by mode for a while.

Hold the door, Lance, I'm right behind you. Claude had the right idea - as did quite a few who have made the same decision. Not worth it any more.

Yeah - I've been debating it, myself. Upstairs infuriates me it's getting rather barren down here.

Oh, well - life is change. I stopped visiting the 5 or 6 other forums that I would frequent over the past few months. I hung on here, though. Drive-by mode seems like a good option.

Spent hours today trying to get my radio station, sorted. I was able to broadcast without any problem but couldn't get anything from the mixer to my headphones. That won't do. Too many cables and way to many hardware and software settings. This happens at the end of every summer when I get ready to come off hiatus. You'd think that after 8 years I'd learn to write this stuff down and take pictures and screenshots of all the settings - but no!

Once the weather starts to shift and I'm broadcasting a few hours each day, that will eliminate my need for a distraction from the boredom of my everyday existence. Getting old sucks. I find it next to impossible to fill my days. More time on my hands than I know what to do with.

I'll drop by to update everyone on Honey's condition, but I think it really is time for a break. Nothing personal. I love all of you just as much as you love me. lol

        See you on the flip-side.

        Cheers. - Frank

I see a lot of old-timers singing the same song. Just what is it that's missing? Maybe if you can describe what you're craving, people can serve it up (again).

And please note that I asked for what's missing. NOT what's wrong.

There are enough complaints in here to write a lifetime of blues albums!

See folks, it's only OK to address the poor English when it's spoken/written by foreigners. But when someone from English speaking country writes gibberish, don't you dare to comment on it.

I guess I need to point out that saying someone has a faulty brain is a personal attack. Discussing poor English in general terms is not.

And then there's the fact that under old management, this was an English speaking forum with the majority of people speaking English well.

And by the way .... speakering is misspelled. I think you probably meant speaking. Kind of ironic to screw up a word while discussing someone's poor grammar.

Yeah ... I see some get their panties all in a bunch when the discussions don't go their way and say ... I'm leaving. But they don't. In some part it seems to be an attempt to be able to control the conversations via temper tantrum. I'll take my toys and go home if you don't play the game the way I want it played. lol.

It makes little difference in the long run who stays or goes. The decision won't even be ours at a certain point in time.

If it's a matter of it being a distraction to your work, a time out is understandable. For those who don't like the topics, I wonder where are their topic starting threads on topics that they do like? I start very few topics myself and just roll with what is delivered here.

Sadly, I don't think the upstairs will ever get better. I know some say things ebb and flow, this is just a phase, blah, blah, blah. But I don't agree. And I think one of the biggest problems is that we have far too many members who don't speak English well enough to be able to provide value to discussions or ask questions that make much sense.

It's funny, I just said in a pm yesterday that I think my frustration with the WF is really starting to show in my posts, and that's not good at all... my patience is much thinner and I catch myself being snarky, which really isn't my personality.

I'd like to see everyone who expresses unhappiness with the content start a thread that they want to talk about. I started one about a fish I caught. I never start controversial threads, but I'll chime in with my opinion the same as everyone else does. It appears that very few people give a shit that I caught a big fish. lol.

What would you like to see banned? We've got religion and politics banned and that's a good thing in my opinion. Let's see ... maybe nothing about race. No news topics. Off limits. No celebrities (and their foibles or crimes). What exactly do you want to talk about and why aren't you doing so if you are unhappy with the current topics?

In all honesty, ban nothing... We are all adults and know the limits of a conversation where that line becomes offensive. I get religion and politics because people become passionate but we could still have a decent conversation before something offensive is said. Mods go all out to stop a thread when something bad is said but instead of deleting the individual they lock the thread stopping good conversatio so let anything go.

Lee, I didn't see your post til after I posted.

You made a good point. I would much prefer to see problematic posts deleted (and, if the mods have time, a warning given to the poster) rather than entire threads closed. I think we could have some great discussions if they were handled that way.

Well, fwiw, I haven't had a problem with the topics overall. My biggest frustration (here in the OT) is when a good discussion turns ugly - usually due the ad hominem attacks that start to occur and end up getting threads closed. I enjoy good debates because I learn something from hearing others' view points.

I actually do enjoy a good discussion about religion or politics, but fully understand why those aren't allowed.

As for starting threads, I don't do it often. I just checked and I've started a whopping total of 16 threads in my 8+ years here... guess I need to step up my game!

Btw, Suzanne, I enjoyed your big fish post! Those are fun threads that just make me smile, even if I don't always comment (my bad). But those tend to not turn into ongoing discussions like controversial topics... (so please don't take the lack of participation in that thread personally).

Honestly Cali, I don't take any of it personally, even when some don't like my opinions. I also don't dislike those with opposing points of view or hold a grudge when a thread becomes heated. There's only reason for a discussion forum to exist and that's for discussions. Quite honestly, some of the posts in the Jared thread were ... *to me* mind boggling and the stance incomprehensible, but everyone is entitled to voice their opinion and I don't dislike people because they do so.

... and I believe that a highly sanitized discussion forum that is overly moderated with many taboo topics would be as dull as turtles mating and would soon be a ghost town.

Disagree. Kudos to the mods for locking threads. What some people want is for them to take sides and delete the messages that a member or group of members disagree with. I've seen certain posters skip over clear ad homs against people they don't like to characterize and mischaracterize those same people they don't like as being involved in adhoms etc etc etc. Biased supreme

Its been a GREAT improvement that the mods are above being swayed into bias like that. Locking is a function of not taking sides. Thread gets heated everyone gets a time out. mod doesn't have to stop and take a side. Its not like other threads can't be opened.

No I'm not. Didn't mean to imply that I was leaving & not coming back. Just going to do more lurking & less commenting for the time being. Not the first time I've done this & won't be the last. It is however, the first time I've made mention of it rather than just leaving for a while. I was having a bad day the other day. Whenever I take a hiatus, it's always a "me" issue and not a Warrior Forum issue. The current state of the forum just helped me realize it sooner this time.

There are enough complaints in here to write a lifetime of blues albums!
I agree. Just an overall lack of quality discussion (OT not included). I wish I could tell you exactly what it is. As I said above, perhaps it's just a "me" problem due to not dealing with the change around here. I have no problem admitting that that's a real possibility. Which is why I'm taking a step back to reflect.

That said, a week or 2 ago you started what I thought was a pretty good thread and people fouled it up with negativity. I guess that's my biggest issue. Seems like people lack the ability to engage without getting nasty. Look, I don't want everyone to see things the same. That would be boring. But a conversation, debate, etc. can be spirited AND civil.

Not me. That's too boring. But I get what you're saying. It seems like people get much more offended by disagreement around here than they did in the past.

It makes little difference in the long run who stays or goes. The decision won't even be ours at a certain point in time.
Agree 100% that it doesn't matter who stays or who goes (long run or short run). As for your first comment, I couldn't care less which way discussions go. I just care that substance seems to be lacking in lots of cases. Seems that way to me anyway. Again, maybe a "me" problem.

Apparently, people forget down here lol
Robert, my comments were more directed toward the main forum and other sub forums. I've never really had a problem with the OT. Like you said, a place where you don't have to take things too seriously. And I can't help but think you & I could have had some legendary clubbing experiences back in the day. Although, now I get a headache just thinking about it.

That's exactly what it is. The last couple of days have been rather productive & refreshing. Guess I just need to be more judicious about how often I pop in here and how I spend that time.

Your fishing thread was great. It did make me feel slightly inadequate though . Seriously though...NICE FISH!

I don't want to see anything banned. FL owns the forum now, and as long as it's within their rules, I say have at it.

Again, I wasn't talking about the OT forum at all. I love coming down here to see all the interesting things people find & post.

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say hey and reply to a few comments after a couple of days away. Now, time to get back at it.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Personally I think the old forum mods were asinine and pretentious. I got banned for making 'silly posts'(Jokingly asking for a review copy when none was offered got me a one month ban), and had my entire ability to make threads blocked because someone was having a bad day and wanted to flex their muscles.

The reason why this forum was sold was because it wasn't make much money in the first place, and the old administrator wanted to give up and live lucratively off a big payday without all of the stress. It was going to fail at some point, this just helped to speed up the process.

        Good riddance.

Well, locking threads isn't moderation. Moderation is removing posts and troublemakers that infiltrate the threads and that then allows conversations to carry on without those people.

There were rules against personal attacks and the old mods were good at removing those posts that were personal attacks rather than just heated general conversation. Some people cannot debate without making it personal.

Locking a thread takes no moderation skills whatsoever and punishes everyone for the bad behavior of one or a few.

He obviously chickened out on that post and quickly deleted that personal attack. lol. The information within is all public knowledge because I have openly discussed it.
