I was lucky to come of age during the 70s when some of the best music and film was ever made. Of all the bands, a few artists stood above due to their unique sound and creativity. David Bowie was one of them. Thanks for the great, great music and RIP.

Oh man... so sad.

Paladia (cable music channel) was just playing Ziggy Stardust two nights ago. I called my kids in to watch with me and I wasn't surprised at all that they dug it. What a rockstar.

Stevie Ray Vaughn played guitar on Let's Dance. He was only earning something like $400 a week and quit to form his own band.

June Lockhart was/is a huge David Bowie fan.

  Reading through some of the online tributes and messages, the one by David Baddiel struck home the most. He said: "I'm not just upset by Bowie's death but disorientated: like I've woken up and the world is out of joint. I think I assumed he was immortal."
  
  Yes. The world feels somehow different today.
  
  My fondest ever concert memory remains Bowie in 1972 on the Ziggy tour when he played a small club gig in the suburbs of south London. Magical times.
  
  I always considered Bowie and Mick Ronson to be a partnership as iconic as Jagger and Richards.

  My favorite artist of all time. I am devastated. One of his finest songs ever that you probably never heard was called (and fitting). "My Death" Here it is live, never cut as a recording as far as I know.

  When I heard this on the news, my whole countenance fell. David Bowie was a real rock icon, so talented and creative. He will be sorely missed.

This is awful. Thanks for bringing so much joy to our lives, Bowie.

4 people whom I followed have died of cancer in less than a year (public figures and personal friends). Is cancer a bitch, or what? Man.... wtf.

I had cancer in 2003, and the more I witness people dying from it, the more grateful I am to still be with friends and family today.

i received a 5 minute lecture on oz rock

sadly stevie wright, lead vocals for the easybeats died recently too

  Always some bunch of prejudiced, narrow minded A-Hole Zealots out there to try and tarnish what was one of the most talented singer/songwriters and artists ever to grace the planet with his presence.
  
  Ultimately, I have not the slightest interest in how he looked or his sexual orientation. Only his music. I put Bowie next to the Beatles, Elton John and a number of others in producing quality, memorable songs and tunes. A major force and influence on music.

My husband is a HUGE fan of David Bowie and shares the same birthday.

When people would say to him something like, "Oh, your birthday is the same as Elvis", my husband would reply, "Yeah...and David Bowie too".

  And a week after Bowie's passing comes the news that Dale Griffin, drummer and founder member of Mott The Hoople has just died, aged 67.
  
  Bowie famously rescued Mott The Hoople from the brink of extinction in 1972 when he gave them one of the songs he'd originally intended to include on the Ziggy Stardust album - All The Young Dudes. Bowie also produced and played on the record - which became a big hit in the UK - and it's clearly a number that would have sounded right at home on the Ziggy LP.
  
  Interestingly, Bowie first offered them the song Suffragette City, but they cheekily turned it down and asked for Drive-In Saturday, which Bowie refused to give up. Instead both parties settled on this Ziggy cast-off.
  
  RIP Dale Griffin.
