Are there are programs out there that can convert text from an image and put it into a text file?

    Here's one possible way:

It really depends on the image. Are you talking about scanned images or something created in Photoshop?

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

It's pages of typed text. I don't have a scanner so I was going to take a picture of the page with a camera.

My wife wrote a book years ago on a type writer, never tried to get it published. W'd like to put it in the computer without re-typing it all.

In that case, you're looking for optical character recognition software (OCR). It probably won't work perfectly, but it might be enough to get you started. Or try the Google Drive tip above, which is basically the same thing.

Wait, typewritten? I'm not sure if that'll work. Wouldn't hurt to try, though.

      Hi Sconer,

What you need is OCR software. There are hundreds of Apps, many are free.

You can also walk into just about any copy centernear you and use their scanners

Even if it needs a lot of editing, it's still better than typing from scratch. Thanks for the help.

Edit: would speech to text software work better?

OCR should fix this, an' there is plenty of stuff around.

All depends on the clarity of the original.

Speech recognition can be costly, especially if you are me.

Tellya, most times all I get outta speech recognition progs is a buncha garbage looks I wrote the f*cker.

That free OCR tool looks great things.

The reason I was thinking speech to text is because I pretty much stopped typing out text messages and use the voice feature on my iPhone which works very well. I was thinking that maybe it would work even better on a computer.

Just scan it to a pdf and feed it to the software.

Be prepared to proof carefully. OCR makes plenty of mistakes.
