[rant] Well-Thought Out Replies

So, someone posts a thought-provoking post and you decide to reply.

So, you spend several minutes putting together a response. You check your words carefully. Make sure you're being clear and accurately responding to the original post.

Then, you submit your reply and see those dreaded words: "Invalid thread specified."

I should have just replied: "Great information here. Thanks for sharing. I will add you to my favorites and be your constant reader."

Oy.

Raise your hand if this has happened to you.

    Yea, Dan, more often than not, if it's a genuine post (not spam/self promotional) it's simply moved to the correct forum topic... and yea, it's a pain when a well thought out reply is lost.

    Most of the time this happens to me though, I had just written "This belongs in the WSO section or the Classifieds section... or, Thanks for the spam!... thread reported, I suggest others report this thread also"

    I have gotten in the habit of highlight/ctrl-c my reply, and copy it to my clipboard before I hit the reply button, just in case.

    It just happened to me, in this thread ironically, since this was just moved from the Main to the OT and luckily, I had taken my own advice and had my reply copied... just in case... lol

      I do that too. Sometimes. Usually, I can just use the back button and it's all still there. In this case, it wasn't worth saving because it wasn't of much value outside responding to the original post. I suppose I could have made it into something, but it probably wouldn't have been worth the bother.

        The problem is, this happens to posts that no reasonably intelligent person
        could possibly imagine being nuked.

        They're not spam.
        They're not in the wrong category.
        They're not even controversial.

        But for some reason, members decide that they don't like it, report it, and
        it's gone or a mod just decides that it doesn't belong.

        I normally don't care, but since many of my replies are novels (in a real
        attempt to help the person in question) I have better things to do with
        my day than spend 30 minutes on a reply that ends up not even getting
        seen for 5 seconds.

        As a result, I don't reply to nearly as many threads as I used to.

        It's just not worth the time spent.

        And that's sad.

            It is something that is 100% out of my control.

            And things that are 100% out of my control are just not worth my time
            in deed or thought.

            And the only reason I even responded to this thread is in the hope
            that you and others will see that, in this case, I am absolutely right.

              You are absolutely right though.
              For a long time now if I'm having a rare moment where I will give a long reply I do one of two things.
              I either say screw it and move on or I'll type it out in wordpad first then copy and paste.
