MMORPGs - getting sucked in

Anyone else out there finding it hard to focus on your work efforts late at night due to an MMORPG. I remember last year, I was working on a product for Warhammer Online and ended up spending more time playing the game than writing about it. This year it's back to WoW (though much less time is being spent). I always work better later at night, but it's hard sometimes to keep that laser focus in check.

I've been an adventure game addict since 1976 when Atari came out with
the 2600. I've been playing all sorts of RPGs since.

Today, I confine myself to games that I can play alone on my PC because
if I get sucked into the online gaming community I'll never come out. As it is,
I spend WAY too much time on the game front these days.

But yeah, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about.

I try to go that route when I can. I ended up neck deep in Fallout 3 this last year - all single player, but about as long and in-depth as an MMO.

I have a gaming forum and a clan, but only a few wander into the MMORPGs territory.

I use to play these when i was alot younger (around 13 to 14) and then actually decided to make my own and ended up making about 3 of them in total and each made me about $1000 a month. You can read the full story (that is if your interested) on my blog here.

But then after i had run them myself they became boring to play and so i stopped.... oh and i made and played only the text based ones and not the 3d ones like wow and stuff!

Hmmm I haven't thought of joining or playing an MMORPG the only thing that I played through online is not by means of an RPG it's by means of a First Person Shooter.

I got so into WOW and gaming in general i started a 30 station LAN center for gaming. We used to have overnighters where people would come in at noon on saturday and we would stay in until noon sunday playing games. mostly WoW.

Since then i've toned down my gaming because I honestly just dont want to spend that much time in front of a PC if i'm not getting paid for it.

Whats funny is i've met a lot of people that say 'i dont know how anyone can play those games like that, i'd never do that'...and they find their game such as wow.

The next time you see them, they are pale white from lack of sun, gained like 20lbs from the taco bell/pizza diet, have mt. dew cans stacked to the ceiling and can sit with other adults and have serious conversations about imaginary swords and armor for hours on end.

In korea its even worse. they sit for hours on end over there, and dont eat/drink or get up. This creates blood clots and when they stand up the clot breaks away goes to a lung or the brain and sometimes people die.

    death by wow.

Ive played WoW and Warhammer online for a while. Got bored after maxing out my characters. Tried to get into EVE, but that game takes forever to get anything accomplished.
