I have more than once tried to explain this to folks, but I will give it one final shot, in order to clarify. I usual point this out when someone accuses me of being arrogant, but it works for egotism, also.

There is an extremely thin line, which demarcates the boundary between massive displays of ego and the ever-present supreme self-confidence that I exude. Oftentimes, it requires an above average intellect for that line to be accurately discerned.

If, what you see as it pertains to me is interpreted as ego, then you need to examine your own IQ, :-)
