A cousin contacted me a while back - he was moving back to this Ohio area and had been doing ancestry.com stuff on my father (and his father's) family.

I love the name of his research lab - he's a geneticist and now a professor at the university here. His lab has a long name....but the abbreviation is

M.U.T.A.N.T. Laboratory

What a cool name for a genetics lab!!!

He had found more info on my Great Grandfather. My Grandfather had left home at 14 (Kentucky) and never went back or had any contact after that. Turns out great grandpop made and sold moonshine and was a nasty piece of work overall.

His relationship with the family that did have contact with him was so bad they had him buried outside the family cemetery when he died.

I was never interested much in the ancestry stuff until I learned how many interesting people I had hanging on my family tree!

    When did you leave home?

Maybe it's something in the genes if it's around 18ish lol.

I found out all kinds of crazy stuff running down my lineage.

Some of it good, lot's of it, really, really bad.
All of it interesting ... to me.

O yeah - and some famous (at the time) people. That was extra cool.

It's interesting to a point - glad my cousin's digging deep because I wouldn't spend that much time on it. It's definitely an avocation for him.

1/64 - just enough to qualify for special minority business programs and tuition ....and enough to get a slice of the settlement $$$ in some court cases.

With my luck I've probably got one drop less than I need....

I'm sure who ever was living with them at the time didn't see it that way. lol

Just had a recent facebook conversation with someone I'd not seen in years.

I was chatting with him about what was supposed to be his part Indian ancestry - as I'd recently discovered I have some Cherokee blood going back, and he cracked up telling me he'd found out he wasn't really Indian but was a bit afro-american.

All kinds of treats come out of those searches.

I was reading an article about the DNA testing to see "where you came from" - and found myself wondering if the answer to some of the "isms" that cause so many problems might be mandatory DNA testing.

Might not be so quick to hate if you've got that blood in your own veins.
