I'm seriosuly starting to notice a pattern on this forum, and it's becoming all too easy to spot!

The title of this thread protrays what I see.

One rule for one, another rule for the rest!

Why is this forum like this? (I think I may have complained about this before! - but it aint fair!)

I see the rules enforced more fairly on this forum than almost every other forum I belong to.

        Tina,
Funny how these type of complaints are always rather cryptic without specific instances of the supposed unfairness. You can't name names, obviously, but specifics could be given if they existed.
Sure he can name names, as long as he's not indulging in personal attacks.

I want to hear what his problem is, but only if he can be specific. I'll probably be asleep when he does, but that's okay. It'll be instructional to see if he's got more than a whine to go with the cheese.

You're always complaining about something, and you're never specific.

What - exactly - is the beef?

Lol, I am a bit of a complainer to be true... well spotted!

It's in regards of how some people get away with making a thread (prime example "Reviewers Wanted") and it doesn't get deleted. While others don't even get a chance and get deleted almost immediately.

I see this happen all too often.

Yep. That happens a lot, just exactly the way you describe. It has nothing to do with fair or unfair, though.

The biggest difference between the ones that get deleted and the ones that don't is the content. If it looks self-promotional, or the poster has a history of pushing that line, it's gone. Asking outright for testimonials is also something that will probably get one nuked, if the moderators notice the thread.

This all assumes that it's a moderator, and not the members, who are responsible. That's not an assumption you should make.

    Intrepreneur,

Since I have been here, there have been at least 4 major changes in rules. The last change was announced YESTERDAY! If you are talking about something that crosses that boundary, FORGET IT!

And YEAH, if I do say 5 bad things, they may be overlooked while someone that has made say 20 posts may get BANNED! HEY, that is a GOOD thing for ALL!

Would it help you to know that you have enough posts that you might likewise benefit? Would it help you to know that the rule changes made yesterday are in YOUR favor as well as mine?

Mark - the amount you complain about this forum, I have to wonder why you don't just leave and not come back. It's not going to change just because Marky is stomping his feet AGAIN. Get used to how it is and quit complaining, or go home.

An addition to my previous response...

If you have a reputation as a complainer or for consistent self-promotion beyond that allowed by the rules, or if you do things like re-posting deleted threads or topics, you get a lot less leeway from everyone. And they look at your posts with a jaundiced eye to begin with.

Nature of the human beast, dude.

Some signs that you're there, or headed that way:

You find yourself butting heads with the moderators regularly.

A number of known posters comment on a bad habit you demonstrate.

You regularly feel the need to apologize for your behavior.

Posts of yours disappear for no discernible reason.

You find yourself regularly complaining about the moderation policy.

You're all too correct, I'm too eager for my own good. I know what I shall do, I don't wanna leave, but I gotta make less visits

          Nope.

If you do the same thing, but less often, you're going to get the same response. You need to relax.

Wise words. I'll rephrase it all.

"I will not complain anymore when I visit and post at the Warrior Forum, I will use the search function more often, and I will aim to make most of my posts a helping hand to another member"

Excellent plan. Follow through on it, and you'll be surprised how fast this place becomes more useful and more fun.

A word of warning: Lots of people say they're going to do things differently. If you say you will and then don't follow through, that's worse than saying nothing. It just magnifies the original problem. If you do make the change, understand that it will take some time before anyone who might have a problem with your past behavior believes the change is real.

The good news is, if you make the change there won't be any reason for anyone to have a problem with you during the "proof period."

Because all forums are like this.

Every community, online or off, operates as a series of concentric circles. The first few people in it form the "inner circle," and then another circle forms around them. Once that circle solidifies, another circle forms around that. And so on, and so forth. The closer to the innermost circle your circle is, the more special privileges you enjoy in the community. Over time, long-term members can migrate inward to more privileged circles... once the people in that circle decide they belong there.

Nobody ever really writes this down. It's not part of the rules. It's not some sort of standard system. It's just the way every human society works.
