help with editing posts?

Whenever I try and edit any post, it tells me the "title" is too long... and when i click onto the title to edit it again... it has HTML in it... and I didn't even give my post a title to begin with... and if I remove the title, or change it etc... it still comes back saying i can delete the post or change the title.

Have I accidentally changed some settings for this to occur? Or what is going on here?

Ok, so seems it's not just me experiencing this:

Another user said this in another post: "I tried to correct a type - but the forum won't let me - tells my "title" is too long. I didn't have a title. Duh."

and this is the kind of message I am getting when I try to edit:

The title that you have entered is too long (747 characters). Please shorten it to 100 characters long.

So obviously no one is going to sit here and write a 747 character long title... cheez...

Is it the first time you experience the problem? is it only when you are editing your post?

      Figured out the problem.

You can edit a post as long as it doesn't have a link in it.

If you have a link, it's the link that is somehow getting included into the
      forum title length being calculated.

The "link" has nothing to do with problems I had last night as there were no links involved.

It's been reported, it will be fixed by those who have access to forum admin panel and source code. Meanwhile, we need to type carefully to avoid edits or type your post in notepad and make edits before adding it here.

You're right Kay. I jumped to conclusions based on minimum testing (shame
          on a former QA tester)

Actually, the thread title is taking the whole post length into account for
determining the length of the title.

I created a thread, edited the content (kept it short) and wouldn't you
know it...the thread title changed to the actual content of the thread
without me changing the title myself.

Well, maybe that wasn't the weirdest. But it was the scariest.

I have the same problem. I came here to start a thread on it when I saw this one.

When I try to edit anything after I have already posted then I get the error screen
"The title of your post is too long. It has over 1000..."

It pops up when you try to save the edit.

Got to be one of Allen's pranks - now we can all see how really bad we look in rough drafts. I feel like a buck an article writer when I see a few of the posts I couldn't edit.
One was so bad I deleted it and reposted. It's hard to see what you wrote sometimes until you read it as posted. LOL.

      Becky -

Wish you had seen the bug I ran into last night. I kid you not it was 4 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide - and dark red. It appeared to have come in through a gap under the screen door from the back yard.

I can't kill anything (spiders and flies indoors are the exception) so I conducted a bug removal - which involves picking the worm/bug up (pretty fast little sucker) with a paper towel while muttering "ick, ewww" a lot - and walked him through the front yard, across the street and dumped him in the woods. Of course, the entire time I'm wondering if this is some new strain of flesh eating, people-attacking insect. I'm such a wuss.

But I can stay off topic with the best of them

I looked up the bug, by the way. It's a red millipede Stock Footage of Red millipede u11937950 - Search Stock Videos, Movies, Motion, Digital Film Video Clips - u11937950.gif

I typed a post last night and all I got was "What the hell is that supposed to mean? Please reconsider after you get some sleep."

    So, I went to bed.
