Video editing on a Mac?

Anybody got hands on experience with video editing on a Mac, with the typical kinda stuff we do - direct to camera, motion graphics and screen recording?

On the PC I use Camtasia for the screen recording, Sony Vegas for the direct to camera stuff and After Effects for the titles and motion graphics.

What would the Mac equivalents be, for this kind of set up?

Many thanks for your help

Greetings. I primarily use Camtasia for Mac, but the built-in Quicktime application has many usable features, as does the free application, iMovie, which is installed automatically with each OS upgrade.

    Thank you.

I don't have a Mac, but it seems those that do and are in the know like Final Cut Pro.

While Final Cut Pro is an excellent program and an industry standard in the filmmaking community, it is beyond overkill for most people's needs. iMovie is a 'poor man's' version of Final Cut Pro, but without the bells and whistles that are rarely needed by most hobbyist-type videographers. Better to cut your teeth on iMovie and move up to FCP as the need arises. Additionally, iMovie is free and FCP starts at $299.

Apple does offer a 30-day free trial of FCP X at: https://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/trial/

BTW - if you decide to go with FCP X, be sure to spend the extra $50 to acquire the Motion application. You'll be glad you did. :-)

      Thank you.

If Michael is using After Effects, I'm sure he can handle Final Cut.

Agreed, so I guess it just comes down to what one is willing to spend. :-)

          Thank you.
