Once you're in Camtasia look all the way over to your left and you'll see "Clip Bin." Above that is a white field. Right click on that and a box will appear with options. Click on "Import Media." From there navigate to the MP3 file on your computer that you want to add. When you locate it double click and it will appear in the clip bin.

From there it's simple. Just drag it down and place it on an unused track to acompany the video you want to use. That's it.

If you want to add something from powerpoint, then get it finished and then save it as an MP4. Once you have that, you do the same thing as you did with the MP3. Right click, find the folder with the MP4, double click and it will show up in the clip bin. Then drag it onto a clean track.

Why wouldn't you add the MP3 directly into PowerPoint? Then, as TG says, export it as an MP4 video?

BTW, good to see you again TG...

  • mixmedia,

Another option is to record you screen (powerpoint) in camtasia as you record your voice over live.

even follow,, and watched some tutorials on youtube, but there are some missing parts during how to insert, how to save, or export the files etc,
Anyway, I would like to ask if there is any alternative software than camtasia?
any better one? easy to use, record and save files as MP4 format to upload to YouTube,

If you're using PowerPoint 2010 or later you don't need to record your slides with Camtasia. Instead insert your audio clips into slides, or record them directly using PowerPoint, then export as a video.

PowerPoint will automatically time each slide for the longest media, which in this case should be the audio you recorded. Just make separate audio recordings for each slide.

IMO, forget about Camtasia in this instance and focus on mastering PowerPoint.

PPT 2010 only exports as wmv, you'll need to upgrade to PPT 2013 or 2016 to export as mp4. However, you don't need mp4 to upload to Youtube, wmv will work.

I use a number of programs to create videos for Youtube, but PPT is my favorite. I suggest you upgrade to 2016. You can get the first 30 days for free, then it's only $6.95 a month from the Microsoft Cloud.

I'm not going to write tutorials when there's plenty of info on Youtube and Google. I suggest you take some time to learn PPT. IMO, the number one most important thing for Youtube marketing is coming up with a system to make quality videos as quickly and easily as possible.

One suggestion I can give you is to focus on audio content as much as possible. The more quality info you include in your audio, the less you have to do visually. Use visuals to enhance the audio and to help keep your viewers' attention.

Again, if you're serious about YT marketing I suggest you upgrade to PPT 2016 then spend a few weeks on YT learning and mastering PPT 2016. You need to invest a little money and time to really learn PPT.

            Thanks Kurt,
I will do that to upgrade to 2016,
as for the audio, I have Audacity, is this enough? or what you suggest?
Regarding the visual stuff, I need to mix between presentation slides and desktop captures, this can be done by PPT 2016? or needs something else?
many thanks for the valuable suggestions

PPT has to ability to record audio directly, but I like to use Audacity instead. Write the script for each slide and record the voice over audio in Audacity, then import the MP4s into PPT.

PPT 2016 also has screen capture. You can try it, but it's rather primitive but may work for your needs. The issue is PPT isn't really a video editor, while Camtasia is a good editor. You can use Camtasia to record the screen captures, export them and then import them as videos into PPT.

You can also export each PPT slide as a video (or as one long video and split it) and import them into Camtasia. It's a matter of preference but I'd probably import PPT videos into Camtasia instead of Camtasia videos into PPT. See what works for you.

                Hi Krut,
PPT only is not enough to do the job that I need to record, must have video editor software,
do you know any alternative of camtasia software that can do good video editing?
was trying the free version for 30 days of camtasia, but when to save any video they include the watermark logo, and their full version at $199,
is there any alternative with affordable price?
if any experience or heard about some other options please share, many thanks in advance!

                  This one sounds alright?

                  https://www.apowersoft.com/free-audio-recorder-online

But you can also get someone on Fiverr to do audio, without it getting too expensive.

I did a powerfoint type video a while ago on WMM, (Windows Movie Maker, free) and got someone from there to do the audio.

I was asking about video editor, not sound recorder, I have Audacity already,
after trying cmtasia for few days, then checked their full price at $199,
aren't there any cheaper software? or some on monthly basis? but not to tell me adobe pro, I checked there already,
for WMM, I will try to find out about this

                      I am using Windows 7,
unfortunately, I could not download it from microsoft website, saying that minimum requirement is windows 10,
I found other sources, downloaded but different features, and displaying the title of the software as (My Movie - Movie Maker) with very poor options, when checked with total virus found some adware included, so I just removed away,

Did you use your keyboard? There are shortcut keys to pause the recording. If you used your keyboard maybe you hit the right key combination.

Have you tried Windows Movie Maker? That comes with Windows 7, at least it did on my old machine. It's not as good as Camtasia, but it might do what you need.

is possible to record powerpoint 2010 presentation as video and take some screen shots from the desktop together?
or just the presentation slides for within the powerpoint itself?

Here's the 3 free video editors I recommend. I don't use them since I already have other (paid) editors, but have tried ActivePresenter and know people that use the other two and like them:

ActivePresenter - If you need a screen capture program like Camtasia, this is the best free alternative.

ShotCut - A good, free video editor.

Divinci Resolve - A good video editor with advanced features, which also means a bigger learning curve. Excellent for color correction and manipulation.

      Hi Kurt,
Thanks again for the interactive and helpful replies,
As for now, I downloaded the Active Presenter, and trying it out, the obstacle now is how to export / save the video in MP4, WMP format or else, I sent an email to their support team and waiting their reply,
I downloaded Davinci Resolve, after installation when I clicked to open it, it keeps asking me for the activation code, even I selected to download free version, keep trying to find a way how to use, record videos and edit the sound track as well as the recording itself.
if you know any other paid software at reasonable price or monthly membership, even cloud version (web based platform) I will be interested to try it out, in case the free ones can't do the necessary needed job to save the desired format, do edit, export, add animation etc, it will be just a wasting of time really,

Why is this thread in the Off Topic? There is viable marketing and technical advice from subject matter experts found here and it is going to be wasted on us idiots down here.

This should be moved to the main forum where Traveling Guy's, Kurt's, and Gaskill's advice can be of use to the masses.

This isn't directed at you, Mixmedia, if you initially posted the thread here. It can be hard to determine where some subjects fit.

You can't move it, only moderators can. It's not really about marketing anyway, it's about technical issues. Kurt may not have seen it in the main forum, and he probably knows as much about making videos as anyone here. The OT was a good place for it because Kurt frequents this sub-forum regularly.

I'm going to respectfully disagree, Dennis. Here are threads currently on the first page of the main forum:

          Video Intro Software
Want to Create Youtube Videos but Haven't Got the Confidence
          Guidance on WordPress
          Where to get SSL Certificate

How Do I Create This Kind of Site in WordPress
          Royalty Free Music
How Do I Create a Logo

The main forum's stated purpose is "Find out and learn more about SEO, running an online business, latest trends and effective strategies and techniques for marketing your business, website or product online."

This thread and the ones above are technical issues or not directly marketing-related, but are all part of running an online business. They may not include direct marketing discussion, but they're certainly relevant to running an online business- and this forum needs relevant discussion at the forefront, not hidden down here.

...and yet there's a SEO forum and most SEO threads are started or moved there. Those descriptions are really old. Still, even the moderators don't always agree on where posts should be, and in fact, a legitimate case can often be made as to which forum is best. Even though we disagree on this, the important thing is, we still agree that Claude looks terrible in his bubble suit.

I guess, the best way is to go for paid software,
freebies always with troublesome and often face endless issues,
As I tried camtasia, is so slow when start, comparing to Snagit, but no video editing tools as the free version,
However, any paid one at reasonable cost or even monthly I will be interested,
    Thanks for all,
