The world has gone mad - officially. They awarded a prize to someone they admit doesn't meet the basic qualifications for the prize. What they did is cheapen their own image. Seems to be a lot of that going around now.

Looking like herd behavior in the upper echelons. That's not a political "I don't like....." - but a comment on those people who are jumping on a bandwagon and abandoning their own principles in the process.

I wish offended people would react like fainting goats and quietly tip over.

The article itself, or the fact that people missed the humor?

Who missed the humor? Is there something that is funny besides the idea that he is JUST as qualified for all those other prizes? He ALSO won the 10,000Meter womens run, even though he never attempted it, and isn't a woman.

He is ALSO going to be in the guiness book of world records for the smallest man. NO, WAIT! He might actually WIN that one!

        A bit of both.

I especially like the way Obama himself seems to be doing a bit of head-scratching over it. "Wow, the Nobel Peace Prize, I'm like... really... um, okay, seriously - WTF?"

Err Kay, read the article. It's just a satire (not a particularly good one) but mildly funny.

Though before I read it I actually thought it was legit - nothing would surprise me at the moment.

Maybe Kay was being sarcastic or was it a knee jerk reaction??

Frankly, if an OBVIOUSLY undeserving entity "wins an honor", I have NEVER viewed that as raising the individual up. It LOWERS the value of the "honor", and hurts all that won it before.

It would be like everyone in a history class getting As on their papers, though one said that columbus invented the TV set, marconi invented macaroni, and that gun powder was invented by george washington, and the teacher then acknowledged that those WERE the correct answers! Would YOU consider that student to be an A student? NOPE! You would QUESTION if the OTHERS deserved the As! Would that teacher be considered a GOOD teacher because his class always got As? I HOPE NOT!!!!!!

THAT is why I am upset! At times, I have gotten high praise for something and felt bad because I didn't feel it deserved.

A great lawyer once said, "When I was young, I lost a lot of cases I should have won. Now, I win a lot of cases I should have lost. It all evens out."

Well, WTF do you expect from a lawyer?

This article wasn't meant to be funny in a belly laugh kind of way - it was meant to make a point.

By the way - I have breezed through some of Barry's writings and find it to be melodramatic trash with absolutely Elizabethan gush for metaphores. I also saw evidence of a very failed attempt at allegory in parts. The only reason it is being "highly regarded" is for the same reason he just won that Nobel.

What? Kay was being sarcastic? That's never happened before!

I'm thinking this time she read a few sentences and was too disgusted to read far enough to find out it was sarcasm. I did the same thing til I saw the post that it was satire. After reading Barry's writing - which was nothing more than era 2000 versions of Mein Kampf - I was too disgusted at the world for allowing the rise of another Fuhrer and the recent Nobel dicision to read the whole article.
