The one and only Mr. Rush Limbaugh as been removed from a group that is trying to purchase the NFL's St. Louis Rams.


After a letter from the Player's Association and multiple other public rumblings regarding Mr. Limbaugh's past statements etc. ...

...the purchase group was informed that Mr. Limbaugh's association with the group would make it difficult for the group to pass mustard with the NFL owners...

.. of whom 75% must vote in favor of the prospective ownership group for inclusion into the lucrative NFL.

    Statements which cannot be confirmed or verified that he actually said. One quote was sourced back to a Wikipedia entry that was debunked as being false.

    Meanwhile, other NFL owners manage to get away with saying (or singing) things that seem even more offensive than some of the things Rush Limbaugh purportedly said. Just take a look at the lyrics to this song, written by a co-owner of the Miami Dolphins.

    Limbaugh gets the boot for things he never said, while someone that went to jail for animal abuse gets back in. Nice that the NFL has standards.

      Are the offensive lyrics in the song or the Michael Vick situation racial related?

      I listened to the song but found only curse words etc. and I think the N word was uttered
      by Ja Rule and J-Lo.


      I think J-Lo did get some flack over it also.


      I think the pattern and body of work of Mr. Limbaugh is what did him in.

      The rushing game was shut down by a stop the rush defense.

    From the little I have followed this story, I heard it had to do with comments he made about Donovan McNabb on one of those NFL shows he used to do back in 2003.

    If that IS the main reason, then I do question the standards of the NFL owners considering Vick.

    I know people say Vick paid his debt - and I am not arguing that point. But Rush was also "let go" from that show after those comments. Isn't that paying his debt?

    At the end of the day, they own the teams, they get to vote.

      The man is perceived by too many people as a racial trouble maker and that's something the NFL doesn't want to be associated with.

      He even takes credit for spawning Glenn Beck the ultimate racial trouble maker.

      The pass rush was stymied by the NFL's pass protection scheme.

        So, he compared football teams to gangs? Let's see... what do gangs do? They do stuff like commit crimes, commit assaults, illegally use firearms, deal drugs, etc.--all things no NFL player has done, no?

        Just look at the Minnesota Vikings or the Cincinnati Bengals. Their quantity of arrested players in recent years has been embarrassing. The near 400 NFL player arrests since 2000 is certainly cause for reflection.

        These guys get paid boatloads of money, and they commit crimes and still often get second or third chances.

        And the NFL is worried Rush Limbaugh may tarnish their image!?!?!?

        The NFL has no moral high ground here. If they want Limbaugh out, that's their prerogative. But, let them be honest about it: It's political. Period.

        If it was about image or being non-divisive or whatnot, they'd have to be taking a stronger stand against criminal behavior by players. They'd also need to apply the "standards" they purportedly apply to Rush Limbaugh on others as well.

        You have Fergie of the Black-Eyed Peas who is also a part owner of an NFL team who has lyrics like this: "But we still got terrorists here livin' in the USA, the big CIA ..." Or how about this gem from Jennifer Lopez? "There are certain people that are marked for death. I have my little list of those that treated me unfairly." Wow. They seem so sweet. :rolleyes:

        Which people would those be? Maybe people like former President Jimmy Carter, Nancy Pelosi and others that think that any criticism of Obama is racially motivated? Obviously it can't be that there are people actually opposed to his agenda on principle. It must be racism, no?

        At any rate, here's what's really disturbing...

        There are players in the NFL that have committed crimes. Serious crimes. Michael Vick, for example, even went to jail. Yet, the NFL welcomes them back. And, this has happened in other sports as well. Baseball has had its fair share too.

        I mean, these people blow it. Big time. And they get right back in, often back to making millions of dollars.

        What lesson does that send to kids? Why act like a civilized person? Apparently, as long as you are skilled in something, it's okay to run wild and do whatever the heck you want. Break a few laws. Who cares as long as you can score a touchdown?

        And it gets worse than that. Look at the people that defend Roman Polanski. He drugged and raped a 13 year old girl. Yet, some people defend him because he made a couple good movies since then.

        What's the lesson people are supposed to take away from this? That it's okay to rape little girls, beat your wife, deal drugs, torture animals, drive drunk and break any laws you want just as long as you don't--gasp!--say something that might offend someone?

    I don't listen to Rush. Really can't stomach him. Can't really stomach ANY of these "political commentators" on either side for too long.

    Most are just WAY over the top.

      Not quite the same animal. ( I knew someone would bring him up as an equivalent )

      Sure Sharpton always tries to jump in the middle of a racial situation and he also has a radio show.

      But the kaleidoscope of highly charged incendiary remarks can't be traced to Sharpton as they can be to the rusher.

      Yes, he had that incident about 20 years ago etc., but rush has an extra special track record that has backfired on him - this time.

          BTW I have no axe to grind. I am not into football, and rush is just a LITTLE too corporate minded for my tastes. But the football players are probably MORE likely to like that!

    Actually, he is NOT racist! My FAVORITE anecdote is how he was called a RACIST because he supported SNAPPLE! WHY? TWO reasons!

    1. It had a picture of a SLAVE ship on the front! ONE PROBLEM! It was a CLIPPER SHIP, and had NOTHING to do with slaves!

    2. It was OBVIOUSLY associated with the KKK, because they had a K in a circle! ****TWO**** problems! ONE, the K in the circle ACTUALLY meant KOSHER! So jewish people knew it was OK to drink! TWO, the companny was OWNED by jewish people!

      He's in a league of his own.

      He's a racial grenade thrower and it has come back to haunt him.

      He's got enough real troublesome quotes to keep him in plenty of hot water with folks that don't want any racial trouble. ( see sampling above )

        Most of those "quotes" are not things he said. There are like 3 things he said that people pointed to that he DID say. ONE was an OPINION and certainly NOT racist. One was a slight that waas due to violence at the time. I forget the other, but it wasn't much worse.

        The comments that some jerk put in a book that were CONSTANTLY repeated were NOPLACE to be found. Hey, a lot of people DO listen to him, and many wouldn't keep silent about such a thing. ALSO, this stuff is archived, etc....

        Imus made a comment about a team that definitely wasn't right, and he was FIRED!(He poped up elsewhere. HEY, he has said tthe same thing about whites, etc... ONCE, when he insulted Obama, he insulted george Bush ALSO!) Jay Sevrin(sp?) called undocumented aliens criminaliens, and HE was fired(GRANTED he got his job back, but they said he was fired). And HEY, they ARE the definition of criminals, and ARE aliens! He just shortened it. Do you think RUSH is any better protected?

          "Have you ever noticed how all the composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jessie Jackson?" Uhhm. Bad joke to say the least.

          These statements are on tape:

          "Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the bloods and crips without any weapons. There. I said it." Comparing NFL players to gangs?!!! Why say this? Think about why this is considered a racist comment no matter what spin Rush puts on it now.

          "It's Obama's America, is it not? Obama's America, white kids getting beat up on school buses now. I mean, you put your kids on a school bus, you expect -- you expect safety. But in Obama's America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering, 'Yay, right on, right on, right on, right on.'" This was over an incident that the local police said had nothing to do with race. Rush is just stoking the fire.

          "Obama's entire economic program is reparations." This is such BS and also unnecessarily racial. The truth is the far left is not real excited about the direction Obama's is going so far. This is a perfect example of how Rush takes a real issue and turns it into racial polarizing cr#P and stokes the fire some more.

          He said Obama is "more African in his roots than he is American" and is "behaving like an African colonial despot." Are you starting to see a trend here?

          "Obama has disowned his white half, that he's decided he's got to go all in on the black side." Rush has a way with words.

          On his May 29 show, Limbaugh compared Sotomayor's nomination to nominating David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan member, and said the way to "get promoted in the Barack Obama administration" is "by hating white people." What a prick!

          " Here you have a black president trying to destroy a white policeman" Why mention race? Well, it helps with ratings.

          On April 14, Limbaugh suggested the "correct" way to look at a situation in which Obama sent the military to retrieve American hostages from Somali pirates was that "if only President Obama had known that the three Somali community organizers were actually young, black Muslim teenagers, I'm sure he wouldn't have given the order to shoot." Again, stoking the fire as usual.

          On February 1, 2007, Limbaugh responded to a Reuters report about a University of Chicago study that found that "a majority of young blacks feel alienated from today's government" by asserting, "Why would that be? The government's been taking care of them their whole lives." Nice. Tie a majority of young blacks to welfare. By the way, I would bet a majority of young whites would say the same thing, only it would have gotten a different response from old Rush. I hope some are beginning to see why the NFL players and others don't appreciate Rush.

          Limbaugh said on his May 18 show that all Democrats "had to do was nominate an African-American and [they've] got Colin Powell." Perhaps the most extremely disgusting remark from Rush.

            You know....YOU are the FIRST in this thread to mention WELFARE! WELFARE, as in paying the poor, and people on their behalf, simply to support them is a DROP I THE BUCKET as to what he may well have meant. And it even helps a lot of RICH blacks! In fact, MOST people helped are NOT poor! They are middle class or ABOVE!

            BTW if WHITES say that they are alienated by the government, they are sneered at or IGNORED by the media, etc...! Rush probably wouldn't mention them because it often doesn't even make it to the news. BESIDES, many Whites probably often keep their mouths shut. Some blacks that commit crimes are AUTOMATICALLY considered to feel alienated by the government. If a white commits a crime, he or she is often merely a criminal.

            It WAS interesting that they DID get him. I was heartened only a few months ago by hearing a RIDICULOUS rumor from a supposed friend of his. Soon after that, it was shown to be TRUE! Powell now REGRETS his endorsement.

            I don't know the context there. I thought that Colin Powell was a nice guy that would either vote for the guy he felt was BEST or keep his mouth shut at least. I figured he would be for the country and right FIRST. If all things were roughly equal, or the black person were better, THEN vote for the black. HEY, given that circumstance, a lot of WHITES might vote for the black, if they were equal also.

            I can tell you I don't care what party, sex, or color the person is. I have only voted republican a bit more than 50% of the time. and probably 50% of the time a woman was running, I voted for the woman. I HAVE voted for some blacks, EVEN for president.

            MAYBE a caller called in suggesting a belief similar to mine, and Rush simply tried to set him straight. The context CAN change the meaning a lot.

    Does anyone else here have a problem with what's happening in America? Rush Limbaugh, a longtime NFL supporter wants to be a partner and have a stake in a pro football team.

    Fine! This is a free capitalist country, why shouldn't he?

    But because some don't like what he has said in the past, they take aim at the man when he wants to make an investment?

      It's funny how some will have no problem calling Obama a racist for ridiculous reasons but defend someone with such an obvious history of making racially charged statements like Rush. Heck, I was even called a racist for using the term "angry white people" which Republican Sen Lindsey Graham just used himself a couple days ago.

        Not sure what "ridiculous reasons" you're referring to, but yes, the race card is played on both sides. But let's not fool ourselves here, the race card is used much more often, and used much more efficiently as a weapon on one side.

        Look at what happened to Rush. Show me the EVIDENCE that he said what the media are claiming. In fact, the media (CNN and MSNBC) even apologized today for not having any evidence. Of course, this is AFTER he was dumped from the bid.

    80% of those quotes, are just him quoting facts, and were taken out of their entire context. I see nothing overtly racial there. Again, if you listen to Rush and hear his quotes in context, then you'll know that he's not a racist. Would a racist have a black man as the highest paid member of his staff? Would he openly ask the advice and opinion of a black man on a daily basis if he was a racist?

        I never called you a racist - in fact if you had read what I said, I said that there's a difference between making a racist remark and actual racism.

        However, I stick by the race baiting remark. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that agrees w/ this assessment. You only have to read a few of your posts to see that.

        And by the way, if you do listen to him then you'll know that he's not a racist. You do know that his side kick - Bo Snerdely is black right? Don't know why you'd hire a black side kick if you're a racist.

      Neither, at least in the context you are implying. I watch the NFL, as it's my favorite thing to do. During his short stint as an NFL "analyist", I saw Rush say the inciteful things about Donavan McNabb that got Rush fired. Right or wrong, the NFL doesn't need an owner that incites 70% of the workforce.

      And right or wrong, Michael Vick or J Lo don't incite the NFL players.

      Not to mention, throw out the racism debate and judge people on their merits to own an NFL team. Stan Kroenke is the most qualified owner. He's got more money, won't cause any problems, and already owns other big time sports franchises. The NFL will bend their rules of not allowing an owner to have teams in other sports, and he'll be the next owner.

It was the later false accusations of racists quotes that got him booted. Even CNN and MSNBC both went on the air with quotes that they've now had to apologize for.

          To me, claiming to be a news organization, and then putting out quotes that you haven't researched is much worse than being a commentator that is controversial with his views.

            I understand all that. But it's still up to them.

            We don't know the entire story - only what all the "news agencies" tell us. NFL owners are a very tight-knit club with "old timers" with lots of say. If they thought that his stint as an NFL analyst was enough of a reason, oh well. It's still their right.

            The investor group clearly wants to buy into the Rams. Apparently they didn't think enough of Rush to go to bat for him. That's their right too.

            I am not naive enough to think the entire decision is because of what the news is telling us...heck, they couldn't get their facts straight on what Rush actually said. News shows are all about entertainment, sensationalism and profits. Not news.

    First off let me say that I personally find Mr Limbaugh as obnoxious a soul as ever walked the face of the earth. My opinion of course.

    Having said that, I wouldn't stop him buying whatever he can afford to buy. If he's got the cash, let him buy it.

    BTW I consider myself neither Left- nor Right-wing. I agree with the Right on some issues and with the Left on others.

    During the time I have been eligible to vote I have voted on both sides of the fence. Depends on what's going on at the time, and who I believe is the best equipped to deal with those circumstances. I don't think either side has monopoly on truth, however both sides have valid points. Once again my opinion. For all its worth.

        Mike, the man doesn't rile my blood.

        Actually, it's been a lot of fun and he's an very easy target.

        My posts and comments on this subject are in fact an analysis of why the dude was rejected by the NFL.

        His politics are his politics - great.

        But then there's the other side ( racial ) of Mr. Limbaugh...

        He may be an entertainer but...

        ...a big part of his act is the generation of extra, premeditated racial animosity which IMHO is a cancer on the republic and the last thing we need.

        Sure, there's going to be some of that in any society that has different groups within, but this dude is extra and makes a good deal of his living feeding, stoking and bringing out the worst impulses in well meaning people.

        My major point is...

        He who publicly promotes racial animosity will not be accepted into the mainstream of American life anymore or at least anytime soon.

              - Travesties in the criminal justice system:


              Although I'm a registered independent...

              I never said I was in the middle.

              I said I was pragmatic.

              As a matter of fact, I thought I explained quite clearly to you that in these historical times I can not support the folks on the right - especially on the national level.

              Note: for the ill-informed, these are not historical times because we have a black president.

              They are extra historical times in our nation because...

              - This situation is a re-run of the 1928 period:

              whereas...

              Somebody ran the country into the ground and then somebody else had to clean up the mess. ( this is twice )


              Why am I not on the right?

              - Their horrific track record: ( for any pragmatic Jr. historian to examine )

              - Their basic philosophy:

              - Their southern strategy - embodied in Mr. Limbaugh:


              Yea, it's we when it comes to Mr. Limbaugh.


              This should be an open and shut case here against Mr. Limbaugh but nooooooooooooooooooo,


              ...incredibly ( but not any more ) lots of folks find ways to try to explain away a clear professional racial provocateur who's body of work speaks for itself.

                        Whether or not I "support" Rush is not even an issue here. I have also stated (in this thread) that I don't particularly care for his style, I don't listen to him, etc.

      BTW, it hasn't been proven that Rush didn't make those two statements. It actually sounds like something he would say. Rush himself wasn't even sure if he did or not. Check out his statement on this. He says his staff couldn't find any quotes like that. So that means he wasn't even sure. Doesn't that tell you something?

      I REALLY have to wonder where that term "southern strategy", REALLY started! The republicans WERE, despite what you may think the reasons were, the ones that basically ENDED slavery, and created the 13th amendment! FRANKLY, you can't win "negrophobe"(a word that implies that it is spoken to people that at least CLAIM to like negros, and as a term AGAINST whom they speak) votes that way. The term negrophobe implies that a DEMOCRAT made the statement. So it REALLY makes me wonder.

        The parties have changed philosophies since the R-Party was born in the 1850's.

        So saying the R-Party ended slavery is true but also misleading since they are the party of the modern day southern strategy. ( last 50 odd years )

        The R-Party became the party of big business etc., in the 1880's and it's core philosophy has remained intact to this day.

        Both parties were basically the same way until FDR took over the D-Party in the 1930's.

          Well, the democrat party changed in several ways also, but not really as you imply.

          And the republicans aren't so FULLY the party of big business, and that certainly isn't anyones SOLE interest. BTW here is my impression of the people that some have ACTED like they were republican....

          1. RUSH (R) believes the environment really can't be hurt, and the free market really needs NO rules. THAT I think is going too far, and is wrong.
          2. IMUS (I) well, I think he is a bit liberal, and a little TOO loose, if you get my meaning.
          3. Glenn Beck (I) He sometimes sounds crazy, but really isn't. He seems to have his heart in the right place.
          4. Jay Severin (I) He believes homosexuals should be allowed openly in the military, and be able to get all privileges given to married people. HEY, even a man and woman can't have that without being married and subject to OTHER problems, and they were created to offset certain disparities, etc.... CLOSE friends can't do it. BESIDES, part of it is AGAINST most religons. WHY do they want to do it, if it is AGAINST "their religion"? And the religions ALL claim to be WRITTEN IN STONE, yet homosexuals want them to be changed? Talk about SENSELESS! Frankly, I think he is wrong on both counts. STILL, He seems to have his heart in the right place for most other things.

          There are others, but I can't even recall the names at this moment. Still, outside of maybe imus, ALL have been called voices of the republicans. ALL deny it. Even RUSH doesn't speak for them. Except for Imus, they are all mostly conservative, and that is as close as they get.

          BTW geraldo NOW is running a show that I think WILL be faiir, though he IS covering a lot of nasty comments, and has al sharpton on!

            But still, this thead is way too political and not one person has brought up why Limbaugh is a more qualified NFL owner than Stan Kroenke, even if every one of Rush's controversial comments is dismissed. Rush ain't the best candidate, and wouldn't win any way.

              Well, I guess I don't have ANYTHING against Stan Kroenke. I'll defer to your interest there. I never said Limbaugh was THE guy. I just think he is getting railroaded here.

              But Stan Kroenke IS married to a VERY rich person that has given him a LOT of business, and I guess he has had other business, so you can't say rush can invest more, so you are right there.

I think he even said some bad things about the jewish people though he was part of a project that HELPED them! Still, even if it was late in coming, a lot of truths were revealed by nixon.

          Some things he did were blown out of proportion so much, and should really pale in comparison to others.

          BTW I really don't like Nixon, in case anyone is curious. If I could have voted, and knew what I now know, I would have voted for JFK also, though I didn't like LBJ.

          Still, I wonder about that whole thing, and you claimed the idea happened EARLIER, and the quote implies it was said at an earlier time!

            I wasn't shocked. However, the interesting thing is how liberal, by todays standards, Nixon was. Hell, today he would be considered a socialistic commie.

            We almost had universal health care under Nixon, but ironically it was rejected by Teddy Kennedy, which was one of the biggest regrets of his life.

      ... by taking advantage of confused, frightened, ill-informed and bewildered otherwise, patriotic Americans.

      There's gold in dem dar hills for people of Mr. Limbaugh's ilk and he's taking full advantage of the situation to the hilt.

But to say the birther movement is out of ignorance or racism is ridiculous. For one thing, MOST blacks in this country ARE considered full citizens in every sense of the word, and certainly permitted to become president. Still, it IS interesting that BO really didn't present a proper birth certificate, especially in light of statements made by his aunt and uncle. If he did that, he would shut up MOST of the birthers. There IS an obscure rule that the remainder hold to, that says obama doesn't qualify, but that is obviously a minority. MOST blacks in this country satisfy BOTH requirements.

    So that should at least partially answer ONE of your fallacious allegations, but it obviously answers the other.

    HECK, the 13th amendment meant that almost all of the slaves EVEN THEN, and ALL of their descendents were considered CITIZENS by the more popular meaning.         Well, he DID have TWO us citizen parents, and was officially born on recognized US territory. He also stayed there. HECK, he risked his LIFE for the US.         WRONG! Not all blacks do! Not all whites do either! All born here are CITIZENS! There is a DIFFERENCE!!!!! To be a citizen here you have to be born on US soil, born to a citizen, married to a citizen, naturalized, or somehow granted such. That does NOT meet the requirement for a US president! The BASIC US requirement for president says you must be born to a US citizen on territory officially recognized as the US(I don't think the 13th amendment applies to possessions or territories that aren't fully within US borders, but other citizenship DOES), and/or meet other specific criteria. It IS a STRICTER standard. Arnold Swartzenegger is a respected politician, and even a CA GOVERNOR! HECK, he CAMPAIGNED for many politicians! He was on a presidents council!       You're right. It has NOTHING to do with it. FRANKLY, the team, should get to know the prospective investors, FOR REAL, and if THEY are ok with them, the investors should be judged SOLELY on their merits. Those are probably ASSETS, BUSINESS ACUMEN, ABILITY to publicise, etc.... I think any decent person should be able to agree with that. If the players don't like them AFTER they get to know them, it is their right to either quit, or convince the rest to not allow the people to buy the team. I never said ANYTHING different about that.     Since it isn't truly political, YES, I AM an American citizen! BOTH parents are citizens, and THEIR parents were citizens(All my grandparents are dead). I was BORN in the lower 48, have never renounced my citizenship, or taken up another citizenship. I have paid income taxes EVERY year since I got out of highschool. HECK, I paid in the last year of highschool ALSO. I was on unemployment only about ONE month in that time.

    I never even left American soil except for perhaps 4 weeks when I was in Mexico and part of western Europe.

    Not that it is any sort of requirement to be a citizen, etc... I have generally lived in middle class neighborhoods. They used to be MOSTLY white. I think I have ALWAYS had people of different races in my school classes. Heck, I remember meeting a kid in the second grade that was from INDIA. I HAVE had friends in depressed areas, and visited them there. Of course, I have had friends in upscale areas that I have visited. As for Employment? I don't think I have EVER been in an all white company that had over about 3 employees. Meetings of those in my area, at my current client, have had about 30 people. Over 20 were INDIAN. Of the FEW whites, one is russian, one irish(citizen), and then there is just me and one other. My "boss" is indian. HIS boss is indian. His boss is black. his boss is white. his boss is indian. BTW it is an international company that is based in germany.

        I'm sure most of my family has been here since the 1800s also. Half my family is Irish, and I have known a LOT of other irish, and NONE have used that saying.

        Oh yeah, my mothers entire family is DEMOCRAT, some were even ELECTED democrat! My mother used to be democrat. Oh, and they would say they were irish, if you asked them where their family was from.

      And ya know something..........all this damned talk about bigotry just goes to show that none of us are over it yet.....it wouldn't be a darned issue if we were, eh? If someone said something bigoted we'd just say, "wow, you're a jerk" and move on instead of seeing the whole damned country implode over it.

      First of all, not all talking were white, and some would even SAY I am not old! And I ****WISH**** "politically correct" meant things like an "integrated vision of race". That is, treating skin color and general racial characteristics the same way that most people treat eye color. Frankly, I don't consider ANYTHING correct about "political correctness" . I will leave it at that though.

      Happily, the world won't end if even the biggest racist, black or white, bought the NFL. FRANKLY, I think it would be a STUPID move, but I wouldn't cry over it. And the players would probably just quit and start a NEW league! So, hopefully, it is just a number of people that hate the mythical image of rush they have developed, and want to see him fall flat on his face, and that is as far as it goes. And hopefully nobody has built that myth up SO much, that they would like to see him dead.

      Other than that, though I didn't like your word choices, etc... I agree with you.
