So that blind people can hate them as well.

Well I like to cook so I'll share a recipe of some awesome revved-up baked beans I made for my wife's office lunch get-together. I rarely follow recipes & prefer to experiment but did get some ideas online for some additions for my beans. I did decide however to keep track of what I put in as I was sure I wanted to cook it again plus share it on Facebook.

OK to start I stuck 4 large cans of Bush's Bold & Spicy Beans (28 oz.) into a pot to warm up while I cooked other stuff. Yeah I could have used pinto, navy, kidney beans (etc) but it was easier for me to just use the pre-made which I also happen to like.

In a frying pan, I cooked up 2 lbs of hickory-smoked bacon chopped into small pieces until crispy. I drained the grease from the pan & set the bacon aside in a bowl lined with paper towels to remove more grease. I then cooked up a package of brown-n-serve maple sausage links. I chopped those into small pieces. I also had a couple leftover pork chops so I chopped those up. These meats were set aside.

I then added a chopped red pepper, orange pepper & onions (2 small) to the pan until they started to soften. Once they were soft I added 3 chopped tomatoes plus 3 chopped apples into the pan. I then poured in "a cup of coffee" (yep - fresh-brewed coffee - a twist I hadn't done before).

& here are the other stuff I started to to add to the pan mixture -

    apple cider vinegar (4 tablespoons)
    worcestershire sauce (3-4 tablespoons)
BBQ sauce - sweet & spicy (1/3 of a bottle)
    honey (about 3 tablespoons)
    molasses (about 4-5 tablespoons)
    maple syrup (about 4 tablespoons)
mustard (about 3-4 tablespoons - didn't have dry mustard on hand)
    brown sugar (about 4-5 tablespoons)
    paprika (about 1 tablespoon)
    rosemary (about 1 teaspoon)
    thyme (about 1 teaspoon)
    allspice (about 1/2 teaspoon)
    nutmeg (about 1/2 teaspoon)
    ginger (about 1/2 teaspoon)
    cumin (about 1 teaspoon)
    coriander (1 crushed tablespoon)
    cilantro (about a tablespoon)
    cayenne pepper (about 1/2 teaspoon)
    chili powder (1 tablespoon)
garlic salt (maybe 1 teaspoon - I didn't have garlic on hand so I used this)
    pepper (several shakes)
1 tall shot of honey whiskey
1 tall shot of dark/gold rum

I then added the chopped bacon, sausage & pork chops to the pan. I cooked this mixture over low/medium heat for about 1/2 hour so a good portion of the liquids evaporated. I then combined this pan mixture and the baked beans into a large metal popcorn bowl because it was the ideal size.

Result - the best baked beans combo I've ever cooked! Yes - I like steak, ribs, salmon, lobster, prime rib, etc... but these beans were mouth-watering.

    High End Meal

    - Kobe Beef at Tao, New York City. $96 for 8 ounces. Melted in your mouth, it was sliced so thin and tasted so good.

    Down Home Meal

Any vegetarian lunch I have at this little Jai Buddist restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Cost = 35 Baht aka $1 USD. The flavor rivals the $96 Kobe beef. Insanely tasty, wholesome and filling.

Ah, another alleged Mandela Effect. You see a Lasagna is just a single piece of pasta.

      Lasagne is the dish.

Yes I know, myself and just about everyone I know calls it Lasagna

yeah but i am not willing to call it something else and get in a pointless argument .. its hard enough to argue when i make it that it's fine for me to eaty it for lunch and dinner for 4 days ..and not worry about getting fat doing it ..

but then it is Usually real fat people or people at least fatter than me who think that ..as i replace the layer of ricotta . with a thick layer of veggies and shredded mozzarella cheese ..still have the meat but have veggies mixxed in with that ..

but i learned not to argue about what people think is healthy or not after trying to explain to my mom and my aunt on separate occasions that a fried edd and a scrambled egg are pretty my the same health wise .. and fried egg is not fried food .. unless you dump a bunch of oil in the pan ..

We were in Pittsburgh, and were in a bar with friends.

They make their wings differently than most places. Breaded slightly..and pretty dry.

And they gave us a bottle of Chinese Hot Sauce. I had never tried this before.

So I put some on my wing and took a bite.

Sweat poured out of my forehead....and it was the best thing I ever tasted.

I told the people we were with, "If I pass out on the floor, I want you to pour this entire bottle down my throat...until I die."

Even today, I buy KFC grilled....mostly so I can eat it with Sriracha sauce, and I always have a bottle at home for my eggs, and most sandwiches.

In the rare event where we visit New Orleans..I always order Gumbo. And it's just amazing.

I've had many awesome meals back home in Pittsburgh....

My favorite was at the Georgetown Inn up on Mount Washington... filet mignon medium rare and a baked potato with all the trimmings... It was a combination of the food, the view and the company. :-)

In Denver, I always enjoy the chicken tikka malasa and copious amounts of chai at my friend's restaurant, The Star of India.

One of them would have to be the steak meal my Dad cooked me one summer. I think it was a fillet steak with chips, salad, etc. and a bottle of beer. Really enjoyed it. : )

The best mashed potatoes I've ever eaten were in a little restaurant about two and half hours away in Cologne.

I'm not sure what they did to make them so delicious, but, if I had to hazard a guess, I'd assume there was more butter than potato.

Oh yes, mashed potatoes with butter is a must. In Belgium I went to the restaurant Beefeater that served corn-on-the-cob (not fodder like most places) that was covered in sweet butter and all the bar-b-que beef and pork ribs you could eat.

One block over was an alley where all the restaurants served wild game. All the quail you could eat served with baked or mashed potatoes mixed with a little garlic butter and a little quail juice.

Was that alley in Brussels? I think I've been down that ally. We had game hens and the owner threw in two fifths of Jack Daniels to get us in the door.

There's another alley of nothing but seafood restaurants. We spend a lot of time just walking around negotiating with owners. We never failed to get at least a fifth of whisky.

Took myself out for lunch, today - seeing as how there is no one who's company I enjoy more.

Started with a nice spring mix salad with shallot vinaigrette. Followed that up with Pappardelle al tartufo.

    Alabama translation: sketty wit shrooms.

A couple Stella Artois topped everything off. I skipped desert. Trying to maintain my Tarzan-like physique. Best pasta dish I've had outside of Manhattan. Super yummy.

Went to Cape May with my sister and a childhood friend and his wife for lunch, yesterday. The weather called for clouds, all day and a thunderstorm in the afternoon, but at least it was supposed to be hot.

I was a bit bummed because I so much love driving down the shore with the sun roasting me. Still, we started our trip with the sun making an attempt to peek through the clouds and it was doing a pretty good job. About half way down the sky turned black and it started to spritz. We all laughed when "Let It Rain," by Eric Clapton started playing on the radio (streaming my station, of course). I informed everyone that I was NOT going to surrender to the rain. The rain never came. We enjoyed the rest of the ride on the Garden State Parkway. One of the most beautiful stretches of highway in the southern part of the state.

I recommended a place that I frequent, and man, did we ever have a great lunch.

We had fried calamari as offered on the menu (roasted peppers, fried cherry peppers, capers and honey mustard sauce). Whoever dreamt up that concoction should be put to death for crimes against mankind. This dish was created for folks that eat avocado toast and say they like it. No one believes that.

I had my calamari done the right way. Plain with a side of spicy marinara sauce and a sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan. Thank you.

Other appetizers were cajun fried oysters with spicy pepper sauce. Not on mine thank you. Fried oysters are what motivated God to create tartar sauce.

Lobster mac and cheese was excellent, but it should have been served in a ramekin with a hard crust from a minute under the salamander. Where do these people learn to cook??? Never learned that your eyes sample it before your tongue tastes it.

Also Italian rice balls stuffed with all kinds of crap. I'm Italian and have never run across those before. Not even something my grandmother ever made. I have had them in Cuban and Puerto Rican restaurants, though.

I recommended the Italian burger and my friend and his wife went with that. I ordered mine rare, Mike ordered medium (cretin) and his wife, Amy ordered medium-well (I think she's Irish. That says a lot). Shocker of all shockers - every burger was cooked to perfection. That's if, of course, you could ever consider a burger cooked medium-well to be considered, 'perfection.' Epic fail.

My sister went with crab cake tacos (another culinary abomination created for millennials. I'm surprised there wasn't any kale polluting it).

The burger is a combination of ground short rib, sirloin and brisket. Topped with roasted sweet red peppers, sautéed spinach, Fontina cheese and a splash of balsamic glaze. Served on a brioche roll. Trust me when I tell you that half the fun was wearing it.

BTW - our waitress was an 18 year-old local who has begun living in her van as she prepares for a sojourn to visit all 48 contiguous states when the season ends. She said that she was loving it, but was saving for a good mattress since the one she had was like an inch thick. She was a real sweetheart and a really good waitress. We gave her a $100 tip and told her it was to buy the mattress. She was floored. Obviously, I had surpassed my legal limit of two bottles of Stella Artois, but it felt great to do that. I also offered to set-up a vlog for her to document her travels. We'll see if she does that.

Here it is, folks. One of the best burgers I have ever had, anywhere.

After lunch I picked-up some chocolate almond bark, rocky road fudge and salt water taffy for the girls at Honey's day care facility.

The ride home was nicer than the ride down. The sun was shining and the radio was blaring. Great to see my friends, my kid sister whom I love so much and a chance to reflect on how lucky I am to live the life I currently live. Well, I worked hard to get here, but oftentimes, that's simply not enough. Luck/karma need to pitch in.

Oh, the most amazing thing that happened all day? I went with the salad instead of the fries with my burger. lol My sister almost had a stroke.

        Cheers.

Dog. On a SCUBA vacation in Asia I had a two to three hour bus ride to a dive resort. The bus stopped at a middle class restaurant with a buffet. We were told to ask what the food was before we ate, but I did not, selected what I thought was a soup like hamburger dish on a bed of rice. It was great! Going back for second helping was when I was told it was dog.

Having traveled the world over I have eaten some crazy things and dog was not the worse I had ever eaten.

To this day I have not eaten dog since, but man was it good.

I don't think that many of us have Asian caribou snuggling with us in bed at night and being considered as part of the family.

Additionally, I'd be up for a piping-hot bowl of Asian caribou stew over basmati rice, any day of the week.

        Hamburger Helper with cheese!

Wondered into a Tennessee Mom & Pop restaurant that advertises home cooked meals. The menu consists of three meals:

        1. Fried chicken
        2. Cat Fish
        3. Hamburger Steak

I ordered hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob.

While waiting on my order, a mom and two young children were seated next to my table. When the waitress asked what they would like to order the two children yelped "Hamburger Helper" and mom ordered the Hamburger Steak dinner.

My meal was delivered (delicious) and I mentioned to the waitress that I did not see Hamburger Help on the menu. She said it was not on the menu, but families with children that frequented the restaurant often asked for it, so Pop made a point to always have it for the children. How cool is that!

The family was served a little later and the children happily dug into the Hamburger Helper. I might also mention that while their mouths were full it was one of the few times it was kind of quiet. Saying that in a good way

That evening at home my wife asked me if there was anything I would like to add to the grocery list. Thinking that I had not had Hamburger Helper since I was a teenager I added it.

Today, I had it for lunch and it was just as good as I remembered as a teenager.

Next week I am going to have the same, but with biscuits.

        On a possum diet BTW

My mom is by no means a food snob (fried Spam sandwiches were a regular), but this is something that she never once let darken our doorstep.

You folks may remember that last week was my birthday and on Saturday my friend and best client took me out to dinner at Matorano's, located inside Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City.

Happy to report that I had the best meal I have eaten in the past 22 years, since moving out of Manhattan, where every meal is a culinary delight.

Started the meal with something I didn't think I would ever see outside of my mother's kitchen and something I have never seen on a menu in my entire life, including in Italy. A plate of pig's feet that must have simmered in tomato sauce for half a day over a candle-sized flame. They were so incredibly tender and delicious that I was tempted to order it again, as my entrée. It was a phenomenal dish. A little hard to eat in a restaurant, with all the bones, but no one cared and I saw many diners working their way though this dish. What a great surprise and it really made my birthday dinner, quite special and memorable.

BTW - there's not a soup or a salad on the menu at this place and all of the appetizers, daily specials and desserts are shown to the table via an iPad.

The dinner entrées were quite interesting and ran the gamut of traditional Italian fare, along with more continental style offerings. I settled on the 16 oz. Pork Chop, which was cooked to perfection, served with a quite spicy garlic sauce on a giant bed of broccoli rabe with whole garlic cloves. It was more than a meal, but I'll be honest and tell you that for the princely sum of $48, I kept looking for the mashed, garlic, Yukon gold potatoes. Alas, they were nowhere to be found. sniff. That was one, mean-ass hunk o' pork. Half of it came home and I made a delicious sliced, roast pork sandwich for lunch on Sunday.

Oh, I forgot. I didn't touch the broccoli rabe. It wasn't bad, but there are three things I never order in a restaurant, due to the simple fact that no one does them better than I do. Those would be the broccoli rabe, linguini with white clam sauce and a Philly Cheesesteak. There are a few others, like Scrapple, as well as Sausage, Peppers and Onions but those three are a definite.

For dessert - which I never eat, I had hot waffles with Italian ice cream and a large espresso. Man did that hit the spot. The three ice cold Peroni's with dinner put me in a good mood, especially since that was one more than my legal limit.

I had a great time with my friend. We always do, once he's finished bitching about his wife. He wrote me the next day and asked if I had a good time. I told him, "Yes - you paid the tab." I told him that while I truly enjoyed the meal and the establishment, immensely, the best part of the evening for me was having an hour drive in each direction to incessantly remind him of what an incredible moron he is. lol Made my day.

I know that people say you should never be friends with a client, but in the four years that I have taken care of him, he has wound-up being one of the best friends I have ever had. We agree on practically nothing, but have much respect for the other person's position. It's easy for me to do that, since I'm always right. :-)

We go out once a month. Next month is my treat. I'm thinking $2 hot dogs at Sonic.

        Cheers.

Sounds wonderful. Personally, I have been to only two restaurants that serve star-rated cuisine and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Pork chops are one of my favorites, but I admit I have never had a pork chop as good as the one you had. Glad you enjoyed it and the company of your friends.

Oh, fried spam.. forever! Spam and eggs.. even better. Now your talking my "dirt farm food" days when growing up. It was one of the few foods from a store. lol.

Now Hamburger Helper, not to worry, if you ever find yourself traveling through Tennessee on one of your road trips and see a red neck picking up possum road kill its probably me, so holler at me and I'll treat you to a real meal of Hamburger Helper with spam (I think its called a side dish at fancy places). Sorry, but sassafras tea is all we have in this neck of the woods.

Now if that is too country for you I'll understand and treat you to a hamburger steak minus the Hamburger Help from a little restaurant I know

So far, I think the best meal I've eaten is the broiled seafood platter at Kuki's pub in the town of Swakopmund on the coast of Namibia. The prawns, lobster, fish, scallops, all were great. The South African wine was excellent, the size portions of the food was humongous, and the homemade vanilla was some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Even the freaking hushpuppies were off the chain! Topped off the meal with a shot of Jagermeister.

Went to lunch at a few places this week, but one which stood-out, for better or worse, was a joint I wound up at on Wednesday.

It was an incredibly beautiful day, so I decided to drive into Center City Philadelphia to have lunch with my good buddy Mike, the guy I went to Cape May with along with his wife and my sister, last week.

My sister knows that I love a good hot dog, so she heard about this place that has hot dog and sausage combinations from all around the world. The Yelp reviews were amazing, so we figured we'd give it a try.

Since I was really looking forward to having some ice cold brewskis, I decided to drive to just this side of the Walt Whitman bridge and take the PATCO train into the city. Man, was that one of the best moves I ever made and the experience has me committed to making many more trips into the city for for food, before the summer draws to a close.

First - it was $5 for a round-trip fare from the station where I parked to a stop, two blocks from the restaurant. A 10 minute ride. The trains was so modern and spotless that I thought I was in Shanghai. I couldn't believe my eyes. It would have cost me $5 to cross the bridge, so I was net even at this point. The parking was free, just feet from the terminal and that saved me $26 for 2+ hours of parking in the city. The best part was not driving down those skinny streets, many of which are no wider than they were when they signed the Declaration of Independence at Independence Hall. That was at 5th and Chestnut and I was going to 11th and Walnut.

I got there before Mike, as usual, so I chatted-up the bartender about what was on tap and the menu. He was nice enough to give me sample swigs of 5 or 6 of the craft beers on tap, none of which moved me. That Stella Artois really has me spoiled. Damn, that's a good beer.

Finally settled on a pilsner, as after that many samples, they all started to taste the same.

I spent a while perusing the menu. Some really strange concoctions, to be sure. One was from Vietnam made out of python sausage, one from Louisiana made from alligator and shrimp sausage. The toppings were endless and bordered on bizarre.

Mike showed up and we got down to business. We both ordered Chicago dogs. While they were assembled totally correctly, mine had about a half a jar of mustard on it and was a disgusting mess. It wound up a soggy mustard mess on my plate and I was less than pleased. The roll was custom baked on premises and was more like Texas toast. Three times as thick as it needed to be. I wound up sliding the dog out of the goop and eating just that. Major disappointment.

My second dog was called the Italian. I believe the sausage was 'wild boar,' if I remember correctly, topped with provolone cheese, broccoli rabe and scallions. I didn't even bite into it. I had never seen broccoli rabe THAT shade of green and there was no way that was going down my gullet.

Mike's second dog was a traditional bratwurst with kraut, spicy mustard and onions. He devoured both of his with nary a complaint and I caught him eying my plate. The guy is an animal.

We split an order of fries. They were awful. The first time they were served they were encrusted in salt. (New guy on the deep fryer, I was told). The reorder, though less salty were still horrible. It was like the oil was a week old. Just plain nasty.

So, let's tally this up. Four dogs, four beers, one french fry = $70.00. Add a $20 tip and it's $90, no matter how you slice it. lol

The least expensive dog was $5.25 and the most expensive was $17.50. A pint of beer was $7.50 to $9.00.

Not my best experience, but like I said, all of the Yelp reviews were 5 Star. I think my problem is that owning two restaurants in my past (well, one was a traditional diner), has me spoiled. If you're going to be serving hot dogs and nothing else, they better be the best dogs on the planet. These, I'm sorry to report, were an epic fail.

At least the ride home was orgasmic. Hot, bright sunshine, no hint of a buzz, so all was good.

Before leaving I did go by the diner I used to own at 2nd and Market streets in Olde City. It's now owned by one of the hottest restaurant guys in Philly and he turned it into a cocktail bar. The food, I am told is just an afterthought. That place sure has some history. No - I don't miss getting up at 4 AM to open at 5AM to serve $1.69 breakfast plates to compete against the diner across the street. lol That said, we did serve the best smothered pork chops in the city. Those, I certainly do miss.

    Cheers.

BBQ in Texas, hands down. Juicy and so tender, it's like buttery meat. God damn I'd move there just to eat that stuff every day and die at age 50 from colon cancer. I'd be like "WORTH IT OH LAWD" (I'd be religious 'cos it's Texas).

I've so many worth it meals that it is difficult to pick one but if i had to, I'd choose that barbecue place in Austin.

I used to think that was the hardest question to answer. Until I discovered the answer. "Mama's" in San Francisco. On Stockton Street, (relatively near Chinatown). Let me first say that I am extremely impatient. Yet I waited 2.5 hours in line to eat here. They are only open from 8-3pm and its very quaint. So it attracts a hefty crowd. I live in Los Angeles. Not only would I walk to SF to eat there again, but I would wait in line once I got there! I had a french toast sampler, a spanish benedict, (both were specials, so forgive me if the names aren't on the menu) their housemade jam and a mimosa. Haven't had a satisfying breakfast since.

Frittata-caviar bites. It's like something from Heaven. How I make it at home is simple. Melt butter in a non-stick 25-cm saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and saute for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, beat together the eggs, double cream, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting. After this first step, I go over and add the egg mixture to the pan. Cook the eggs for 5 minutes, or until they start to set. Remove the pan from the heat. Sprinkle the cheese over the top of the eggs and place the pan under the grill. Grill for 5 minutes until the eggs have cooked and the cheese is melted.

Remove the frittata from the pan onto a cutting board and sprinkle with chives. Last but not least cut them into 4-cm pieces. Top each piece with a dollop of creme fraiche and caviar. Just so you know I wouldn't say for you to buy any Caviar, like me, you can try and order from https://osetrus.com/ If you didn't know Eating caviar can have numerous benefits to your health.

One serving of caviar is packed full of protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, selenium, and vitamins A, B2, B6, B12, B44, C, and D. Caviar is also known to contain a variety of essential amino acids such as lysine, arginine, isoleucine, methionine and histidine. Well, I'm about ready to wrap this up, hope you got something useful out of what I had to say.
