Whatever you call them - pants, slacks, trousers, for dress-up?

Cuffs, straight-legs or it doesn't really matter? Is there anything age determinate in this choice?

Thank you.

Prefer to call them dress pants slacks. Go with the non pleated style with straight legs. Depending if you are going to a Wedding or some fancy affair. Take a look at Amazon to see the different styles. Go with Black or Blue with a nice dress shirt and the tie you are asking about. - https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...d=OXHHDG3V4LZ3 All most pay you to take a ride to a place that sells suites. Even if you hit a Kohl's or Macys and roam the mens department to see what is in style. Far as age does'nt matter just look up to date.

If you want a hard and fast rule: Straight leg for formal. Cuffs for anything else.

I, however, always wear cuffs. The only exception being my wedding.

Why don't you just tell us what event you're going to so we can better advise you? I can't have my boy Falcone walking around looking like a jamoke.

I'm pretty busy over the next two days, but will pop in to see if I can lend some sartorial advice.

I spent 20 years in a suit and tie, but have since retired the ol' workman's noose.

No rush. I'm starting a new chapter in my life at my 70th birthday in October. Dressing-up' will be required as I'll be representing others. There's no rush.

I don't think I have worn a suit and tie in 30 years, and before that, very infrequently. I have led a charmed life. One of the benefits of a career in telemarketing. :-)

I am heading-up a new 'no-kill- animal sanctuary and will be making presentations at BBB new member functions, Chamber of Commerce 'Meet and Greets' and with owners of some of the larger businesses in S. Jersey to create a strong network of support.

I have already formed the 501(c)3 and have convinced a horse farm to donate 60 acres of land for a $1 per year lease. Now it just a matter of using my powers of persuasion, combined with my sunny disposition to get this off on the right foot.

I am already helping to care for over 100 animals, out-of-pocket. I don't mind that, as I have been blessed with the means to do so, but I'd rather that others paid that freight while I spent my final days in the lofty pursuit of high-priced hookers and world-class cocaine.

Priorities are important in life - especially as one approaches their final chapter.

So a conservative approach is what you're probably looking for. You want to look sharp, but not too sharp. If you look too sharp, donors might wonder where the donations are going.

I'd stick with gray and blue suits. I've always preferred blue Oxfords; sometimes pale yellow.

You can go with a Full Windsor provided your collar and chin support it. If not, a Four In Hand knot should suffice. Most people seem to wear an Oriental knot these days, but I think that's due to nobody ever teaching them any better.

I prefer my shoes and belts in Oxblood because you can wear them with nearly anything. Allenedmonds.com (not an affiliate).

I'm not going to argue the cuffs versus straight leg issue as related to your circumstances. It's a personal decision. If someone is paying that much attention to your pant legs, you need to worry more about your sales pitch than your pants.

However, if I recall correctly, you're short. If you have short legs for your frame, cuffs will only accentuate that, so you may be better off with a straight leg.

If you want to flash a little personality, do it with your tie and pocket square.

So, I'm guessing I should pull-up in the PT Cruiser "Poochmobile" as opposed to the electric blue, BMW convertible?

Have decided to go with 2 sports coats. Better to miix and match. Getting 4 shirts. White, yellow, french blue and pink. Yes, pink. I'm quite secure in my masculinity. :-)

          A Full Windsor, it is.

I have a beautiful pair of black Gucci dress shoes and a pair of Gucci brown loafers that are slightly less dressy. Those will work for times where the tie is optional.

lol No - this is about my own comfort level. I just didn't know if I went with cuffs I was be viewed as a bumpkin, especially by younger business owners, It seems that men judge other men by their wardrobe, faster than women do. It's a power thing.

However, if I recall correctly, you're short.
          5' 4" is NOT short. It's height-challenged.

If you have short legs for your frame, cuffs will only accentuate that, so you may be better off with a straight leg.
          Don't worry about that. I present myself as if I'm 6' 4".

If you want to flash a little personality, do it with your tie and pocket square.
Yes, and I'm a firm believer in, "Did you catch those socks???" A little eccentricity goes a long way toward showcasing my personality.

Remember, I'm still a card-carrying member of SAG/AFTRA and AEA. This is all about acting the part. Trust me, I'm quite good. Just look at that self-confidence level. lol

I have to get one of those creepy corporate headshots taken. I hate those. I'm thinking of doing something on the farm, instead. This is not really a button-down venture, outside of the aforementioned types of meeting and presentations. I'm pretty sure I can come up with something befitting the mission statement.

Thanks for your input, Dan. You're nowhere near being the cretin that Claude tells me you are. :-)

Sounds like you've got it covered.

Cuffs are completely kosher with sport coats.

For the head shot, find out what color the backdrop will be. Plan your colors accordingly. You neither want to blend into the background nor clash with the background.

Well, having been a photographer in a past life, I know that these studios are equipped with backdrop systems so they can find something that will work with whatever the subject shows up, wearing.

    Straight legs look more elegant.

Cuffs are more the "country baron" style.

I liked cuffs in my early life but now they look a bit silly to me.

Look at actors on TV eg. Ray Donovan and you'll see they're all straight pant leg. Action, decisiveness, mobility, etc. Cuff today looks to me like the tailor had too much material and didn't know what to do with it.

Well, for me it must be a generational thing. Growing up it was cuffed khakis, a herringbone sport coat with leather elbow patches, a yellow button down shirt (no tie) and either desert boots or wing-tipped cordovans.

Straight legs to me always looked like they should be made out of sharkskin and you needed to be carrying a switchblade. I did see West Side Story 14 times, so . . . . . . .

Cuffs are more the "country baron" style.
Well, I'm more 'country moron' style, but I think that look is better for me.

You should hear what they have to say about you in your 'golden years.' :-)

I could kick his ass. Cuffs and all.

      Action, decisiveness, mobility, etc.
Never mind. Starting to sound too much like work.

Cuff today looks to me like the tailor had too much material and didn't know what to do with it.
Straight legs to me look like the tailor became one through a WSO course.

Additionally, should the general consensus arrive at straight-leg, then you know for sure I'm going with cuffs. That's just the way I roll. "The path less traveled."

      Thanks for your input.

As usual, I have no idea what any of that means, and it's probably best that I don't know. :-)
