The Internet Is Altering Our Brains

Here's some seemingly good news for all of us that spend way too much time at the PC, and more specifically, on the internet.

A recent UCLA study has determined that:

"Adults with little Internet experience show changes in their brain activity after just one week online, a new study finds.

The results suggest Internet training can stimulate neural activation patterns and could potentially enhance brain function and cognition in older adults."

Here's the entire article:

      Hi, Scot:

Thanks for the article link. Last night, one of our local television stations did a brief story mentioning the benefits to adults (particularly seniors) of spending (productive) time on the Internet.

I mention "productive" because, in my opinion, the Internet can also alter our brains in a negative way. Ultimately, it's our choice how we use it.

For anybody interested in studies on how wonderfully flexible our brains are and how they can be further developed, here is a great book:

The Mind and the Brain, Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force, by Jeffrey M. Schwartz, M.D., and Sharon Begley

Does staying up half the night posting to the music threads negate the positive effects?

It could but drinking beer and smoking a fattie will retain all the benefits - and add a few.
