Sorry no advice here but a cry for help. While I'm not new to making money on-line, not sure how to get the word out about this important fundraising opportunity. Any and all advice appreciated..

Seems like a worthy cause, but to be honest, l don't think you are going to find many Canadian, Ice hockey fanatics here?

Thanks for looking at the Fundraiser! It's a youth hockey team (11 year olds) and we are a U.S. team (from Northeast coast - Connecticut to be exact.) (The tournament is in Canada and it does host teams from all over the world, so is a pretty cool opportunity.) The problem with U.S. is how expensive everything is, including travel, so fundraising is the only way sometimes.. Not sure if people realize it's okay to donate any amount (even $5 would do...) Not sure if that's the deterrent (maybe folks feel they need to donate a lot of money, so they don't bother at all?)

I think you will do much better in your own country. Start a campaign even with a small marketing budget and you'll get better results. Start small, in your neighborhood, and depending on the reaction, increase the budget and increase the marketing area. Digital marketing is the best way to start. People that are close to you are the best support you can get. Good luck.

Is Warrior Forum not U.S. based? I'm confused by all this talk of other countries.... Fundraising implies $0 budget..and no marketing campaigns, etc. Just trying to get the word out.. But I hear you on those that are close.. Unf. even though the saying goes: it takes a village to raise a child, most of us are doing it alone.. No village (and by that I mean no grandparents, relatives to rely on.) Thanks for replying..

Projects like this are generally funded by local sponsorship, at a corporate and small business level, with personal donations rounding-out the giving.

The team should have a marketing director with part of their responsibility being to foster long-term relationships with area businesses - large and small. That the team doesn't already have a corporate sponsor is a bit surprising. If they do - they should pony-up.

I love hockey, more than any other sport. I'm also one that likes to give to good causes. With that said, if a local community can't muster support for it's team, they should be embarrassed to have to look outside the community for financial assistance.

Not sure I agree, though I understand where you're coming from.. Being that my son has been on the Travel Hockey team since 5 (11 now) and my daughter figure skates (6 days a week, private coach, etc.) ALL the costs fall on Parents shoulders.. (At this point we're just not saving for college, but all the money goes to pay for their sports.) This is the first Fundraising we've been asked to participate it (the Money is really to cover the cost of the bus to travel to Canada..) We (Parents) still have to pay for the hotels, food, our own travel, etc. etc. (which will prob. end up being ~ 1,000 per family..) (THE BUS Costs ~$10,000 - gas, parking, travel, bus driver meals, hotel, etc. etc.)

As you mentioned, we did do a Car Wash 2 weekends ago as a team and raised $700... However, we're also asked to participate in the Fundraising through this link the Organization set-up.. Meaning, each kid has to go to their Grandparents, Aunts, Relatives and ask to Donate (trying to raise $5000 as a team - 13 kids on the roster...)

My problem is we literally have no Relatives at this point... No Grandparents from either side... Etc.

Like I mentioned before, at this point I'm looking for advice on how to promote a Fundraiser link... I have posted it on Facebook and created a Messenger Group.... Guess what, still $0. Left fliers at my work cafeteria ~ 1,000 people work with me - ~still $0.

Posted it here - all the advice: A worthy cause, LOVE hockey, etc. etc. - not willing to donate $1, $5? (So open to suggestions....I guess...)

I donate weekly to cover the costs of feeding over 100 abandoned animals, but it's a local endeavor. I don't ask anyone in your community to help feed the animals I'm responsible for. Don't try to shame me. I do my bit.

I will acknowledge the fact that promoting a fundraiser is very difficult, but I maintain that the further outside of your backyard you attempt to do so, the longer you will be staring at $0 raised.

Contact other community hockey teams on Facebook. Pick their brains. You won't find nicer people than hockey people. I am sure they will give you all the suggestions you need to turn your mission into a success.

Not sure why a 'fundraising' link was approved here - have never been allowed before. What changed?

It is not an 'important fundraising opportunity' to the general public. There are literally thousands of kids hockey leagues and those who do fundraisers almost always do it locally.

Not sure if people realize it's okay to donate any amount (even $5 would do...) Not sure if that's the deterrent (maybe folks feel they need to donate a lot of money, so they don't bother at all?)
Apparently this is on a sport site so perhaps you will get donations - but the story is not compelling. "Our team (no ages) wants to go to Canada for a fun sports and family trip"...is a local headline only.

Our local hockey teams have local fundraisers - sell products/services, etc - to raise money for their own trips. That's true across the US and in my view better for the kids than asking for donations.

    Just hang out in:

    - Facebook Groups
    - Google Plus Communities
    - online forums

Where hockey fans hang out Flor. Build relationships. People put up their guard when strangers ask them for money. Even for a good cause. But we do give money to trusted friends backing a good cause.

In Norwalk for a few more days. Love your state!

Welcome to CT (though Norwalk is really more NY than CT) Venture out to West Hartford, where the Locals hang out.. One of the better towns on this side of our state..

I have Facebook covered (but no one is willing to donate squat..)

Online Forums - not feeling the warmth, ether..

Like I said, all the other kids are asking grandparents, relatives.. HATE for the kid to realize he has NONE...

Do your kids go door to door on Halloween? Get them into their uniforms and start hoofing it. All it takes is a little gumption and a bit of personality.

What - there are no candy bars in Connecticut???

Here 'ya go. Problem, solved: https://web.justfundraising.com/hock...BoCCQ8QAvD_BwE

And there are hundreds of other ways to raise money.

        Cheers.

WELL....they are your children. Of course you pay for them.

This thread seems to have morphed from 'donate to the team' to 'my kid needs money'. Sports are great but how many 11 yr olds go to Canada from the US to play hockey.....unless they are the #1 team in the country?

my son has been on the Travel Hockey team since 5 (11 now) and my daughter figure skates (6 days a week, private coach, etc.
Sounds like a privileged life and a lot of fun for the kids. Complaining that people don't donate their money to you seems a bit entitled to me. I understand wanting your child to do everything he wants - but sometimes it's not possible.

Who's complaining... Lol peeps on this board are strange. Everyone is welcomed, has been welcomed and will be welcomed to offer sound advice.. The threads morph with whatever replies... You guys are taking it down that road.. I'm just answering ALL to the best of my ability to explain things honestly and candidly..

But if you want to know my candid opinion, we should make sure kids don't play sports, let the obesity epidemic thrive, then pay our doctors to fix it when they are in their 20th with high-blood, fat-burning, whatever kind of medication...

BTW other countries have figured out a way to support kids/youth sports. (Probably including Canada - def. Russia, China, etc.) - but in U.S. letting 10+ year olds out on the streets by themselves is child abuse.... Other things - like making sure they play Sports - is apparently Privilege. (Because we should only support dogs and cats - I get it lol)

BTW - Seriously Not Complaining :-)

Yes, I've noticed that, also, but I try to overlook it. I can't expect everyone to be as well-reasoned as myself.

No, you don't get it at all.

Your priority is finding a way to give your son what he wants....and that's fine. You don't have to support anything other than that. It's your family and thus of utmost importance to you. To you, a fundraiser is a 'need'.

My priorities are different and to me it's a 'want'. Saving the life of an animal IS more important to me than a hockey trip. Not right - not wrong - just a different view.

I don't think your child will become obese and his health be ruined if he misses one hockey tournament. Question is - will he think it's other people's fault if he can't go to Canada? Will it be because strangers 'didn't give me money'? That would be a sad outcome.

However it goes, good luck to your and your family.
