Hi Warriors,

A few days ago my son placed his cat up for adoption on pet finder . com
(He has his reasons)

The site TOS states that you can not give the pet away but rather
requires you to sell it so he placed a $20 price tag on the pet.

Some buyer(located in California)on the site chose to purchase his cat for
$20 and then sent my son a check via UPS Next Day Air for $1998.00.

20 minutes after receiving the check my son receives an email from the
person stating that his daughters birthday is tomorrow and would like him
to send the pet via a pet transport service located in Indiana. He asked my
son to cash the check and then send $1200.00 via western union to some
the pet transport service located in Indiana. My son could keep the rest of
the money for his troubles.

The check my son received had a company name on it from another state
other than California.

My son called me and I advised him not to cash the check and to take the
check to his bank and have the Bank Manager to verify it.

Low and Behold after the Manager talked with the company listed on the
check they were informed that the check was stolen and not valid.

The company said that they were receiving 100's of these calls daily.

My son then called the FBI to report it and their reply was to him was to
destroy the check?????????

My son informed them that he is still in contact with this person via email
and they said don't waste your time.

My son then asked them, "are you going to do any thing?" They told him
if he wanted to that he could report in online at IC3.gov and they would
take his report?

With all that said, my son took the check and his email account info down
to the local police station for them to investigate. We have a cyber crimes
unit here.

There is nothing like trying to do the right thing and then totally get gaffed
off by the people that are there to protect and serve you.

Sorry if my post was long winded. I needed to warn Warriors and also vent
my frustrations a little...

/end of rant
/end of Warning

Have a Great Day!
Michael

This one is a scam that is used often on Craigslist, too - pets and jobs etc. I answered an ad for a tutor once. They did the same thing...kid was coming in from Europe..yadda yadda.......please accept this check for the whole amount of the nanny's monthly pay and your own, cash it and we'll tell you who to give the rest to.

I'm wondering how many people get caught in that one.

Sounds like an old fashioned 3rd party check kiting scam. On "Catch me if you can", the protagonist did the SAME thing in the movie. BESIDES, there is an old law of commerce that should come into play......

NEVER!!!!!!!!! NEVER!!!!!!!!! Refund in ANY form other than a credit(Indicating on your books that they can deduct that from future charges), CASH/CHECK(IF THEY PAY VIA CASH or a check that you have a CLEARED stamp on the back of it from the issuing bank), or credit on the SAME credit card they paid with.

Anything else tangles you in a web and might even make you complicit in a laundering scam!

And YEAH, ISN'T IT THE TRUTH! This month, I found out that the hospital gave me a SENSELESS TEST ON PURPOSE! Any CHILD could tell it was senseless. I called the doctor that ordered "the tests", and his receptionist said that he wrote that he ordered ONLY the one I wanted, and ANOTHER jerk basically decided to add two others. The insurance company refused to pay for the cheaper of the two added tests, but left the one I am disputing. $1888! YEAH, insurance covers it, but why should ANYONE pay for it?

The last time I fought with a medical company, I made dozens of calls, and even had the FDA breathing down their necks. They FINALLY caved. I only hope this goes as well.

Anyway, it is INCREDIBLY hard sometimes to do the right thing, and have things set straight. YOUR son is OK, but what about all the others that might fall for it?

Ugly thing to do when the cat's welfare is at stake. Add to
that the hamfisted attempt at fraud.

I guess people must fall for this sort of thing. I've never
gone so far with one of the crooks that I actually got a
check in the mail. Shooting back a tough reply like
"cash and carry, mate" usually ends the conversation.
