It's Cookie Monster Day

Waited a bit late this year - but today is 'cookie day'.


shortbread - sugar cookies - oatmeal lace cookies - ...so far. Headed to the store now for emergency cookie supplies (did not plan ahead well this year)....My cookie monster 'partner' will be here next week from the Air Force for a few days - we'll hold off on making 'buckeyes' till he can help. Those are his 'thing'.


Trying to get done and kitchen cleaned today before family gets back from a major shopping trip - and starts asking for MORE cookie varieties.....

      Little know secret about me. I like to bake cookies and cakes.

      Back in the day, being the only jarhead with his own billet afforded me a grand lifestyle. Had my own field oven and a real ice machine won in a poker game.

      It was a real surprise to the platoon. I guess it did look odd to them when they saw me in a homemade apron made out of an old poncho.

      Despite the jibes and jeers the men would stand in line for those cookies. God save their soul if they got out of line, lol. Admittedly, there were better at the mess, but the mess did not serve beer, lol.

      Christmas with them brings back lots of good memories.

    Did someone say COOKIES?
    My wife has baked cookies for the last two weeks and yesterday she started on pies...lol I'm going to be so fat by the end of this week, I hope all the new clothes I've gotten fit.

    One full day of cookies is my limit - my Domestic Goddess moments come and go and seldom last for more than a day at a time.


    I DID finally buy a TV. Fi-Optics was wired up last week so was watching for a great sale. Found a sale at MicroCenter for 65" Samsung Qled - so we drove down there with the full intention of buying THAT TV - but right next to it was a one day sale on a 70" Sony 4k....for several hundred dollars less. The pix on the QLED is amazing - but I am, at heart, a rather practical person and I LOVE my new Sony.

      I am outraged, you went for a miniscule difference in screen size over quality of picture. Must have been a good offer. At least you saw them side by side and know full well what you are missing out on.

      I admit though, I do favour the Sony brand over Samsung, they seem more durable. At least you will see a big improvement over your old one. Enhanced HD and more colors. And when you do get to see some 4k stuff such as Amazon Prime or Netflix does, you will see the difference. If you have a Youtube App, seek out 4k demo's, there are many. The 4k Chess demo has some breathtaking moments. Anything with gold in it looks incredible. Pluto TV has a 4k channel

      If you have a standard HD Firestick or Roku, you must update to the ones that output in 4k, not expensive to do.

      Would be interested to hear how much you paid and the model number.

        Hello! I have just got a Firestick for me too, it is such a great device! I installed some apps from https://www.firesticktricks.com/teatv-firestick.html and I can watch anything I want now. Maybe you will find that resource helpful to you, good luck with it!

    Yup - and the QLED is amazing but the SONY brand is a go to for us because we've had such great produts from SONY - the TV I replaced is a 60" Sony - 12 yrs old - no problems with it...just older.

      $750.00 for a 70" 4k HDR is a pretty dam good price despite it being a 2017 model and the box a bit torn (as long as it was undamaged),

      You are like me, best bang for your buck. I see it has a central pillar stand so no need to buy an extra wide. cabinet. Most other brands have 2 feet, widely spaced.

      Find and have a play with the motion smoothing (called motionflow XR), set it on maximum, see if you can get on with the soap opera effect. I find it quite interesting and gives an almost 3d effect. People and objects seem to stand out with more sharp relief. not everyone likes it though.

      10 years ago we got an HD Sony Brava 55". for $1000.00 (still going strong). Now you get one 15" inches bigger with 4 times the resolution for $750.00. Can't be bad.

      Note: It's not worth having motion smoothing on when watching Whitacre videos on youtube on your TV...he just doesn't move fast enough.

    Here is my old, relic CRT Sony Trinitron tv, Kay...



    This is from Google images, but the tv is exactly the same to my one, and has a 68 inch screen, and a remote control,...that is about it, and it has surround simulated sound. At least 10 years old tech, and still going strong, (well the on/off remote button is hard to press, but my Sony DVD player also has it), (you can use the DVD for the volume and on/off for the tv).

    And as for recording programs, state of the art, lol.

    Take note Dan, I think Shane is looking for a trade with your Oled. It may well be a Pal TV though, a bit of a hurdle and you will have to get your floors reinforced. Delivery will of course need to by crane.

    Somehow missed the TV image you posted above. That is quite similar to the Sony I replaced - mine was 60" screen and probably 10-12 years old. I rememer it was quite expensive when new.


    We kept that old TV - may use it in a new outbuilding that might end being storage - party space...the TV is too good to toss - picture is still great.


    The picture on my new Sony is excellent....though the tech stuff on the new fi-optics gave me a fit for a while. I still cannot use 'search' on it and have it work right. Great to finally have streaming from netflix and amazon (those are what we use so far)...


    My one disappointment has been that I didn't understand 'streaming options' from netflix. silly me thought every film they had would be available and actually the selection is quite thin in my opinion... For that reason I readded my netflix dvd option to the package - can get newer releases with that.

      If I may, you have to approach Netflix through a different lens. I subscribe to Netflix for the original programming and am happy to pay $12 a month for it. Everything else is just cherries on top.

    I'm just getting into some of the netflix originals - some good stuff there. My disappointment was mostly not understanding how the streaming stuff works. Lots of stuff through amazon prime, too.

      Could you expand on "thought every film they had would be available"?

      Do you mean you thought that every movie available on disc would be available to steam?

      The content houses have different rules for different mediums. Physical media is available sooner, as are digital purchases. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense.

    Not everything, of course...was surprised there were not more new releases available - in fact not many new releases at all. Doesn't matter as long as I keep the dvd option, too. From what I've read, the options rotate so there are different options every month or so?



    When I consider I can plop on my couch with Gracie (pooch) push a few buttons and have so many choices....it's all good.

    Yes, we have a similar thing in AU, but l tend to stay with Netflix as l can access it pretty much everywhere.

    And a word of warning, Never, try to reset back to default settings if an update messes up station search, as it typically deletes program search or the screen images showing up and sets it back to a basic one. Sony cannot help you install the one you liked, (l have talked to a tech, expert about this, as my Mothers Sony Bravia had this issue) and can only advise that you wait for an update again to fix it or buy a new one, and grin and bear it if it updates to a less appealing one.

    So in a nutshell if you do a program search with screen images for the stations and the next day, something has changed for the worse, best to take it on the chin, since reverting back to factory settings will be unrecoverable, (also tried that and it wasn't fun).
