A (free) Alternative to Thunderbird?

Hello,
I've been a Mozilla Thunderbird user for years and consider it a great piece of software but it has a few shortcomings that are not dealbreakers but annoy me after all this time. One of them is its internal search engine that sometimes ignores parts of the search term (like when I search for keyword.tld and it ignores the .tld part). Another is that it has become pretty slow - it is understandable, considering it has at least a dozen email accounts set up.

I wonder if there are any free or paid alternatives to Thunderbird that could handle a pretty decent traffic (between 50 and 100 emails per day), many email accounts (at least 12) that you could recommend?

    Thunderbird is one of the last free Pop3 Desktop programs left. It is not being updated aside from 3rd parties. Decent paid alternatives are Outlook from Office. Pretty much all the rest are Web based.
