I've never watched Game of Thrones and will start watching season 1 between football games. Some of you have already seen it? Any tips?

Stop after season 3, maybe season 4.

Once the show outpaced the source material, the show went downhill. The final season was, in my humble opinion, truly awful.

It's a great show, but extremely frustrating at the same time.

That makes sense. Many people say the same about The Walking Dead.

I will never watch Game Of Thrones. Life is too short to keep up with all these shows.

I saw the first few episodes of Walking Dead, so boring. It should have been about killing Zombies in interesting and creative ways like Zombie Nation. Yet it just turned into a cowboy drama.

Yep. TWD started out great and Scott Gimple ruined it.

Probably the best reason to watch it all the way through to the end is to not be part of the dozen or so people on earth who haven't seen it.

    Heard Mentality, LOL.

This past year I was admitted to a hospital's emergency room. The Doctor, whom I had never met, waltzed into the room and blurted to me something about "ponds and swords." I just laid there with a dumbfounded look and replied.. "I need to call my Commander." He just stood there with a dumbfounded look on his face.

    So far so good.

Finished Season 1 Episodes 1 through 5 and looking forward to the rest of it.

I noticed the sword thrown into the pond. Guessing that scene will be more prominent as the series progresses.

Definitely not for the faint hearted.

      ~ WARNING: SPOILER ALERT ~

It is very prominent. The second last episode of the final season has the Lady Of The Lake, her arm clad in shimmering samite hold aloft the sword signifying by divine providence that Arthur, son of Usur Pendragon, is to be King Of All Westeros.

In the last episode however, it is pointed out to Arthur that strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power can only be derived from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony. Westeros ends up becoming an Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune where the people get to vote for who their King is.

Arthur and his family then decide to go to a diner for a meal, and while Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" plays on the jukebox, Arthur looks over his shoulder at something off camera, the screen goes black, and the end credits roll.

I don't know Kurt. I've never watched Game of Thrones and did not know that Arthur becomes King Arthur and for all I don't know is Merlin may be a dragon. Maybe dragons have a reason for not being Kings? I just don't know.

Merlin, being a wise bloke, knew what it meant to be King and wanted nothing to do with it.

Ask Merlin. Why is being King and a magician a demotion over being just being a magician? Is there a rule that you have to give up your magical powers when becoming King?

Well have not watched game of thrones but apparently over the seasons a few different actors have played Merlin

Maybe no one would care if a magician especially the most powerful magician looked had a different appearance . Just a perk to being a magician.

But it would not bode well for a king to look like a different person every few months.

I finished it and it ended just as I thought it would. In shows like that the guy always gets the girl in the end (cough) or the guy rides off into the sunset alone.
Lot of twists and turns up to Season 3 or 4 like Dan said and after that the quality of story definitely change for the worse. Still, the action and added humor was entertaining.
