Recipe sites gone wild

I remember a few years ago when you could search google for a recipe and find it and read it or copy and move on.

Not today...today you have hundred of results for that recipe - half of them saying 'best ever'....

To FIND the recipe you have to go past the 'why I like this' or 'the story behind this' - and photo of ingredients and a discussion of the ingredients...with a few affiliate links along the way of course because if checking temp/time for roasted veggies or a new meat loaf recipe I also need to buy a certain olive oil and baking pan. etc...right. j/k - I'm sure those affiliate links do get clicks at times.

I finally get to the Recipe (have scrolled down several pages of text/images) ...read through it and about 30% of the time realize NO ONE has ever tested the recipe they put online.

If I want to know what a song 'sounds' like I can read the notes on the sheet music like a language and know the tune. If I want to cook something I KNOW from years of experience what works and what won't.

I think there are a lot of 'recipe' sites run by people who don't spend much time in the kitchen.

Feel sorry for those new cooks who believe every recipe they find online. Sometimes 'more' is not better....it's just 'more'.

I love to cook and eat and I have hundreds
of cookbooks, probably around 700. When
I am in a hurry to find a recipe I google it
but I usually only click on the established
recipe sites so I have not encountered too
much junk as you have described. As an
affiliate marketer I could see how recipe
sites are perfect for promoting all sorts of
      food-related products, weight loss diets
to cookware and everything in between.
I think I am going to setup some recipe
      sites. LoLs!

The best recipes are probably to be had from the numerous chef's that film themselves making the dishes from their actual restaurant (or home) kitchens. For example, I found on youtube several Indian restaurant chefs willing to show how they cooked the curries that they served to the public. In these cases, you had to have quite a few spices and "extra" ingredients to make an authentic dish. The advantage of you-tube is that they have comments, that would say, "Tried this, it was great" or, "did not like it", or "needed more salt" etc, so they are rated and criticized.

To see them make it rather than working from a list and instructions is more likely to be a winner.

An Amazon Echo show (with screen) in your kitchen would be a boon to you, video walkthroughs galore.

This is the most annoying part for me, about looking for recipes online. I only do it if there's something I want to cook that's not in my recipe books.

If that food is available for delivery, I'd probably do that first before risking going through one's EPIC journey (plus side quests) about how they discovered the perfect cheesecake.

i have become real lazy because i do most of my cooking in a digital pressure cooker ....uness i can cook something in a frying pan ..if i was to mve back to arizona .. i would probably get a sun oven ..

my brother has an electric oven and the condo's fire detection system is way to sensitive ..so i can cook anything that creats much smoke .. when i was in Las vegas i was constantly setting off the smoke detectors in my apartments ..

there are nuancies to cook using the gear you are cooking with ..and the reciepies need to be adjusted ..

i find recipes but they are more suggestions so i look between three or four .. to get the general idea ..and then there is .. how do i want food to taste today ..

but ass you point out .. i have the same problem with most of what i search for on google ..it is almost worthless trying to get information off websites ..marketers ruin everything..

when I was visiting here (before moving in) - I set off the smoke alarm....but it was a big problem as it's tied into the house alarm and automatically summoned the fire department.

Wouldn't have been a big deal except I was the only one in the house - I didn't know the 'code word' because i was just visiting... one of those interesting days I seem have on occasion. The 'firepersons' were very nice about it. The rest of the family laughed their a's off.

i have my suspicions about authentic foods ..as in my view authentic is a hipster marketing term switch for standardized .. my entertainment is the travel eating shows ..where the guys travel around and eat food all over the world .. where the genral unit of measurement .. is not ounces grams tablespoons teaspoons ...people shake an ingredient into a dish they are cooking .. and the most common unit of measure is ..that much .. maybe more later ..

i think even many chefs get trained to make really great sauces /marinade , broths before they get trained to cook the actual food ..
