i disagree that this is really an American phenomenon.

We are just seeing it in more stark relief because we can see two different realities being played out on TV.

But the core of the thought, that humans use Straw Man arguments, arguing against a position the other person doesn't have....isn't a political or cultural phenomenon.

It's part of the structure of our brain. It's how we process information we don't already accept. It's how we intake an idea we don't already support.

It's a defensive mechanism, we change what the other person is saying, to make it easier for us to refute.

Are you saying that people in other countries don't do this?

If they don't, then that means that this mental process is instantly adopted when they move to the US, because it's universal here.

That would also mean that people who travel from the US to other countries instantly change the way they learn and communicate.

Of course, I'm assuming what you meant by your reply. And of course, I could have misunderstood what you meant.

But it isn't a human reaction to say that. The human reaction is to argue, and the backbone of nearly every argument is using the Straw Man. Otherwise it would just be learning. And we can't have that.

It can be done with just one person on TV, or one TV station. It's called propaganda. And it works the same way, creating a reality that bypasses reality, to make your own position easier to defend.

I know it has an English actor pretending to be a French Detective but that's close enough for me to avoid seeing it. That and the complete lack of aliens.

Picard season 2, is available on Amazon Prime and other platforms, (l haven't started watching it myself but will, so no spoilers).

Watched Picard 2, episode one, and excellent as always with plenty of twists.

Just watched "Tenet" on HBO Max. If someone could explain to me what this movie was about I'd be eternally grateful. Lot's of action and explosions in forward reverse time though. Always fascinating.

No, it does not do that, you go to You-Tube via a browser you still get the adverts. If you use Chrome like many do and are logged in, and pay 11.99 per month, then it blocks the ad's. There is not any other browser that can do it for free.

No. And it's not really the same story. It just came out a few months ago, I think. Very well written. Sometimes, I was stunned by the quality of the dialog.

I was always fascinated by the fact that one person sees something one way, and another sees the exact same thing in a completely different way.

For example, true crime specials hold no interest to me. And my wife reads murder mysteries every day. I was never interested in them at all.

I can't stand the taste of butterscotch. That doesn't make the people who love the taste of butterscotch wrong. It's like that with movies, books, comedy....

We all have our own tastes. That doesn't make anyone right, wrong, smart, or bad.

Netflix WWII series "From the Frontlines " is one of the best docuseries I have seen of its kind.

Just sensational and they remastered the old clips with color. Must see

I challenge you to watch the first 20 minutes and see if you can get through it.

Btw, I view many movies and have liked many movies that are morally depraved or have questionable undertones of violence and strong sexuality in them. Iam very liberal minded when it comes to that kind of stuff

But this movie was just plain stupid and ridiculous !!
