    This film looks great. In the early Batman comics, Batman was an avenger, he killed the worst criminals, and they really played up the fact the he was primarily a detective. And he was obsessed, driven, almost insane. Hoping for the best in this movie.

    I read about the Superman films. Not much on that yet. I'll wait and see when they start production.

          We'll see. We all thought Michael Keaton was a terrible choice in the 1989 Batman. He turned out all right.

          Although the Christian Bale Batman movies were the best movies, I liked the Ben Affleck portrayal the most.

          The warehouse fight in Batman V Superman is the best Batman scene I've ever watched.

            Keaton is different. He was a predominantly comedic actor at the time. Nobody had any idea what he could do. Comedic actors tend to have range, though. Pattison is human cardboard. He's Christian Bale without the personality (and that says a lot...) and gravitas.

            DC does not know how to cast their heroes. They got Wonder Woman right. I'll give them that. And Momao was fun in Aquaman, but he's *not* Aquaman...and I don't mean he's not the right skin color. Momao is Lobo and we all know it.

              You're right about Keaton.

              To be honest, I haven't seen Pattinson in anything. I just went by the reviews of a couple of his movies, and a few clips.

              Marvel created this entire universe of epic movies, all interconnected. I was wondering how they would combine the silliness of Guardians Of The Galaxy with the more serious Marvel characters. But it was done pretty well.                   Do you ever consider, no matter who you are a fan of, that the entire concept of costumed heroes is...well...silly?

                  Why in the would would anyone put on a skin tight leather, spandex, rubber suit to fight crime?

                  Have you noticed that everyone in comics (or the movies) that has powers, is either a criminal or a hero? Aren't there any powered accountants? shoe salespeople, hairdressers?

                  If Batman were real, he would be arrested or killed on the first night out.

                  These are silly power fantasies for 5 year olds.

                  That realization doesn't mean I don't enjoy the whole thing.

                  In the 1950s-1960s, DC comics were written for young kids. Maybe 7 year old.

                  Marvel comics were always written for an older audience. Mostly teenagers.

                  I go back to the Superman comics of the 1960s, and it's like they were written for a 5 year old, by a 13 year old. In fact, Jim Shooter wrote the Legion Of Superheroes comics for DC when he was 13. Weird.

                    I prefer to view the genre through the lens of mythology. Superheroes are merely American mythology. That's how I saw it as a kid and that's how I thought of it when I wanted to write comics.

                    Similar life lessons are taught both implicitly and, quite often, explicitly with stories either retold under different names or simply told in comic form (I remember Gilgamesh having an arc with the Avengers 30 or 40 yeas ago, not to mention Hercules, Thor, Zeus, etc.).

                    The skin tight suits were just a vehicle to portray the "superness" of a character, to show off the muscles to the reader. With female characters, they helped draw the eye of teenage boys (especially in the 90's when female body proportions became absurd).

                    There have been a few comics based around super characters doing mundane things. They never lasted long because, well, nobody wants to read about an accountant who can do math at super speed.

                    Regarding the difference in Marvel and DC, you can attribute that to Stan Lee. He wanted to tell more complex stories, but he also knew that older kids had more disposable cash. An older child had allowance money to freely spend whilst also being able to prod parents to buy comics. Younger kids could only beg their parents. Lee was possibly more of a marketer than he was a writer.

                      Dammit! When I was a teenager, and later, I started thinking of the DC heroes as gods. Their powers were generally on that level. Super beings who happened to be on Earth.

                      Marvel heroes always seemed to me to be regular people who just happened to have super powers. Much more interesting.
                      Also, I wanted to draw comics until I was about 20, and then I stopped drawing (I was pretty good at it) and went on to other things.

                      When comics were new, the colors ran terribly on the paper (which was very poor quality). And frankly, the art wasn't that great. the colorful costumes, trunks, and cape were so you could identify the hero. But of course, showing off muscle was a power fantasy for kids, and voluptuous women were appealing to a different need.

                      Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko...maybe a few others created a universe. at the time, it was just a cheap distraction for kids. It was nothing.

                      But it did more to shape our entertainment than Star Wars, Star Trek, or The Hobbit.

                      The Marvel movies are just about the most guaranteed entertainment out there.

                      Cheryl will watch Marvel movies, but not DC movies.

                        Almost every single piece in the fantasy genre is based on Tolkien in some shape, way or fashion. He has extremely broad cross-cultural appeal.

                        I never read an American comic book as a kid.I cannot think of a single thing in my childhood or teenage years that is inspired by them. I can think of plenty that has direct lineage to Tolkien's work or re-used his tropes.

                        To compare superheroes to Tolkien is apple and oranges.The former simply has nowhere near the depth of the latter.

                          It's doubtful that the fad will last. To compare superheroes to Lord of the Rings is apple and oranges.

      Agreed, how can anyone get excited about this or the Legion, (or whatever it is called) superhero, Mc, Motion picture, with a cliche ridden storyline of the well thrashed, aliens, get superpowers or humans and have to save the earth, since it saves heaps on production co,...makes it easier to film s.....).

      And no doubt it will be more than three bladder numbing hours, to get through in the cinema, (best to sneak out during the Captain America fight scenes)?
