Will the metaverse replace the Internet?

The MT is like what tv, used to be, a pretty useless gismo, which costs a fortune, and had issues with reception, but had the innate potential to be huge.

I would give it 30 years to really take off.

Exactly guys, sure you can have some event with unimaginable numbers, but l am going by graphic limitations.

When l was a kid l imagined, (1980's, nothing hand held except LCD display ones) that one day we would have a hand held device with almost photo realistic graphics. And we do now, but it took almost 40 years.

The graphics in the MV now is ok, but has a long way to go, and sure you can get a shop front, etc, but the graphics just isn't that good at the moment.

There is a big difference in going to a virtual market with fruit that looks like a 20 sided, 20 colored apple shape, and going to one in the year 2060, that almost looks the the real thing.

VR was a fringe, 40 years ago, and will be taken a lot more seriously when some new PS5 games come out soon.

VR headsets will have to shrink to glasses size. I cant stand wearing a headset for more than an hour.

You have to remember in 1980 technology was limited to what we have today. I would cut your number above in half. Watch what happens in the next 5 years. With Artificial intelligence, Machine Learning and the amount of money being spent. The large tech. companies are racing each other for first maneuver advantage.

Prices of gear needed to have an enjoyable experience in cr or ar and much better input devices than keyboards or controllers.

My personal point where I would bother getting into the meta verse would be after nuralink and other biofeedback interactive technology is available . Even if they just adapt the sensors that make prosthetic limbs move .

So it almost will look like you are casting spells or conducting an orchestra to move around and interact in a cr world.

A: Unsure. Modern research suggests blockchain is a significant core foundation of Web 3 (a decentralized modern Internet). And this is in turn a significant backend architecture of the Metaverse. But 3 major issues are serving as bottlenecks in Web3 dev. These are:

(1) Data exchange speed and volume;
(2) Transaction cost; and
(3) Major user acquisition strategy mainly based on financial incentivization ...

It may replace the internet quite easily, in case it will be being developed with the same speed as it develops right now. I am convinced that metaverse is the next generation of the internet, but people will forget about ordinary life at all. Nowadays there are shops in metaverse, advertisement, so the initial stages of a real business we already have in metaverse. What else? Education? Government? Countries? I think it is waiting for us in future.

FIRST OFF, the Internet is an international network that started in about the 1970s! Will ANYTHING replace it? I DOUBT IT! It will either grow and change the backbone, or maybe, the way the NWO is going, may be severely cut back or eradicated for the average person, WHICH WOULD DESTROY the hope for a common worldwide "metaverse"..

BTW most of the backbone, EVEN TODAY, is the POTS! So many figured the Internet would kill the phone system. IT DIDN'T! The phone system runs it, and was even enlarged to handle more! Even "mobile phones" never really got rid of "land lines". The mobile phone is simply a terminal to a tower that connects to those same lines! Think of it as a long distance wireless phone. Instead of having a range of 1000Feet, it has a range of about 2 miles!

There are two very MAJOR flaws in the internet, because somehow a rumor spread that it, the computer industry as a WHOLE, was a fad that would never catch on.

1. There is a binary Y2K problem. Luckily we have about 16 years before THAT will rear its ugly head, and hopefully, people will come up with a standard to avoid it. I have been away from that for a while but, last I knew, all solutions were proprietary and NOT drop in. This is a SOFTWARE issue, and only affects dates and times. This actually affects MOST software in most computers.
2. Because it was considered a fad by so many, the maybe 3 billion routable addresses was considered more than enough. The world is moving to IP v6 to fix THAT problem. This is a protocol issue, that is effectively drop in. A site can change it without having to tell users about it, and it will likely work, though all routers and systems between it have to be compliant. Most routers at this point likely ARE compliant! There are a LOT more IP addresses, and several more features.

The WORLD WIDE WEB started sometime after 1991, which is when IT was first announced! It was announced, BTW, ON THE INTERNET! Prior to that time, the internet was mostly used for the Military, colleges, hospitals, and some other things like AOL, prodigy, Compuserve, Telex, etc.... The average person had NO way to hook up as PPP or SLIP! SLIP was created in 1984 to allow old fashioned modems to be hooked up such that the computer considered the caller to be hooked up via an ethernet connection. Ethernet is what the standard internet cable was, and still is, called.

I didn't see much point in using PPP until I had to work with clients to remote servers, around 1990, and I loved PPP for that. PPP did the same thing as SLIP, but it was all around better.

With regard to the WWW, THAT is hopefully going nowhere either. For one, it is used as a backbone to so much. For another, I would rather take a minute to read an article, than listen to someone for HOURS speaking absurdly slow, and perhaps with a bad accent. As it stands, I often listen to videos at 2 times the speed. Some people STILL talk too slowly! And most people see the WWW as just HTML, but it works with other types of files and processes as well.

As for the metaverse? What some people said above is short-sighted. You will need a LOT of speed and bandwidth. AND, depopulation attempts aside, the need for that will likely grow with each user, even disregarding all the new users. And countries are talking about reducing power., etc.... MOST power in the US is generated through CARBON FUELS, and the US really doesn't have the real estate to go 100% solar or wind. And we can't forget inflation.

BTW graphics cards often run too slow for games BECAUSE THE PROCESSORS CAN'T HANDLE THE LOAD. And that is for stuff from the computer, When it has to handle so much more that can't be as easily handled by the graphics cards, or computers on either end, it will be worse. They can pull a lot of tricks with the graphics on cards, when they design the graphics for them, so they lower the need for resources, and have standard routines handle what used to be big problems, like handling trajectories, and layers, and textures, etc.... Just today I saw an old episode of "eureka", that was about a large part of the research team being kidnapped and surreptitiously placed in a network, so the kidnappers could steal their ideas. One by one the members of the team found out that they were in a matrix because the layers and textures were being done by the COMPUTER! There were so many people that had to be processed that it simply couldn't keep up. Such things happen in real life, which is one reason why they have the complicated cards they have today in the first place. The last two computers I bought had about HALF of the cost in the GPU. They really should have the GPU as an OPTION. BTW NEITHER of the computers was cheap.
