We've done tons of music threads, most of which deal with individual songs, but never really gotten into our favorite bands/musicians...

You're going to be living on a deserted island and can only take the music from your 10 favorite bands/artists, who are they?

Jeff Beck
Johnny Winter
Jimi Hendrix
John Lee Hooker
Howlin Wolf
SRV
Ten Years After (Alvin Lee)
Rolling Stones
George Thorogood
Hound Dog Taylor

Although there are many others I enjoy, I could listen to just these 10 for the rest of my life and be happy.

      The Ramones
      David Bowie
      Nanci Griffith

I've chosen artists with extensive repertoires to get more bang for my buck but I'd say probably up to five positions on the list could be different at any given time, depending on the mood I'm in.

      Mozart
      Dire Straights
      War of the Worlds
      Midnight oil
      Beverley Hills Cop
      INXS, (yeah, l know Wickepedia).
      Brian Ferry
      Supertramp

And Justin Bieber, yes l know that is eleven, but l would only use this one to keep the sharks away when fishing.

Herbie Hancock: Representing the Jazz Fusion era.

    Earth Wind & Fire:

    NFL Films Music:

Beatles: Representing all my soft rock favorites.

    Roy Ayers: More Jazz Fusion

    Jimi Hendrix:

Unfortunately, since the list is to include only musicians/groups I had to exclude my favorite Rap and my favorite Disco era songs because no one group/artist had enough great songs - yuck!

It would've been a lot easier to pick a "Iop 100 Artists" list than it was to pick only 10. Anyway, here goes, and In no particular order:

    Ludwig van Beethoven
    Yes
    Black Sabbath
    Rush
    Pink Floyd
Peter Gabriel (with Genesis and solo)
    Budgie
    Kansas
    Kate Bush
    Porcupine Tree

Pretty much in line with mine. I'm surprised you Know Budgie. Mine would be up to Bandolier, nothing great since. Kate Bush, the first 4 albums or so, then too obscure. Spent force, some artists have only got so many good songs in them.

Budgie are my favourite band that never made it, although there was a time when they were often mentioned in the same sentence as Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple. I agree though that everything post-Bandolier was pretty ordinary.

          Budgie!

          Never heard of them?

No, doubt they are on Twitter, or the Flock of Seagulls had them for breakfast?

Looks like your in need of a crash course in Budgie then (pun most definitely intended)

(This has got to be the absolute second best song title of all time.*)

BTW Budgie have their songs covered by big name bands such as Metallica, Soundgarden and Van Halen amongst others.

(The absolute best song title ever has got to be Pink Floyd's "Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave Grooving With A Pict". <sigh> They don't make 'em like that anymore. )

      Top 10, only 10?

      You're killing me here, Kurt!

That's like taking a little kid to a huge candy store and telling them that they can only have 10 pieces!

My music tastes are very eclectic so I guess I'm going to have to mix it up just so I would have a variety.

      Hmmm,

      Elton John
      BTO
      Mariah Carey
      Whitney Houston
      Pink
      Billy Joel
      Lynyrd Skynyrd
      Journey
      The Eagles
      Rod Stewart

      That's 10 already? Crap!

      I wasn't done yet.

I think I deserve a bonus, so I'm throwing in Christina Aguilera, lol!

I was so happy to see Frank D. had Nanci Griffith on his list. She is awesome and one of my favorites. If I was going to make a list she would be on it as well as Pink Flyod. They already appear on a few lists. Fun to see that everyone's tastes are so different.

    Iron Maiden
    Gypsy Kings
    Zedd
    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

And I'll add just one more: Johnny Cash

Thanks for the intro to Budgie. If it be the same, they were touring through 2010.

Tour | The Official Budgie Rock Band Web Site with Tour Dates, Record Releases and PhotographsThe Official Budgie Rock Band Web Site with Tour Dates, Record Releases and Photographs

Nanci Griffith is number 1 with me
    Marshall Tucker Band
    Lynrd Skynrd
    ZZ Top
    Outlaws
    George Strait
    Clint Black
    Chris Ledoux
    Reba
    Taylor

Between this 2009 thread and Steve's thread that's maybe about a George Clooney movie, I'd say we are going through a Riffle in the space-time continuum.

It's sort of the same band. The only remaining member from the line-up in the above recording is the bassist/vocalist, but he's kept it alive.

If I was going to make a list, which I am not becasue I am too lazy, it would definately include Nanci Griffit and The Marshall Tcker Band (my two all time favs) I think Nanci has gotten more ink on this thread then any publicity she has had in years!

The Outlaws and Gerge Strait would probably make it as well.
