Hi guys,

I have been reading a lot on a well known BH site (B H W), and, I have learnt a fair bit from them. But, I have recently read an awful lot of very negative things about them.

Some of these have got me rather concerned.

I'm not black hat, and don't really conduct myself in that way... more "slightly off white" id say...

I don't want to get into a slanging match or create a "hate thread" or for that matter a "love thread" ... I just wanted to get some honest comments about whether I should be worried about having frequented their site?

Some of the things I've read are pretty concerning.

It's always good to keep an eye on what the Other Side is doing... I could be found on a number of disreputable sites, if you knew what usernames I had there... but I tend to keep my presence at those sites on the down-low, because in general, I don't do business that way and I wouldn't want people to think I did.

But there's a lot of good, serious discussion on places like that about how to get the best results from your marketing. You won't get the same results they do if you play fair... but you can use a lot of the same techniques in a legitimate and ethical way.

Case in point, I was reading something on a forum the other week about LSI and how to "fool" search engines into treating you like an authority site. But underneath that, there was a minor revelation: the key phrases at Amazon are precisely the kind of thing search engines use to identify similarly-themed sites.

So if you were writing an article on monkey behavior, throwing that into Amazon would turn up a book like "How Monkeys See the World: Inside the Mind of Another Species" and you could check the key phrases to find things like "evidence that monkeys" and "different grunts" listed. You'll also find other things you can't use, of course - which the BH folks will tortuously cram onto their site anyway - like "terrestrial predator alarm calls" and "oxon testing" in the list.

But on the other side of the line, this is a good idea. It would be bluefartery to shove the words onto a site where they didn't belong, but at the same time, if these phrases DO belong on your site... well, perhaps you're saying "various noises" instead of "different grunts." By changing that phrase, you look more like a site about monkeys, and it impacts your authority in the field. And in the white-hat world, not many people are talking about this sort of thing.

Thankyou, I was feeling exactly the same way, i like knowing as much as I can, whether I use it or not is another thing.

Is bluefartery a reference to eli btw?

What really got me concerned about that site is the claims around the ole tinternet that they use the site to install malware etc etc ..... now.. this could be just "hate spam" and probably is... but i needed to hear this from someone else because i tend to be rather a cautious fellow.

We Warriors use the term "BlueFart" instead of what other worlds refer to as a colour of hat.

There was a case on a pirate board not so long ago where an admin had been asked to leave because of certain illicit transactions. Before leaving, this admin made a targeted offer to certain members with a price tag attached, collected a five-figure sum... and disappeared.

People who will do one illicit thing will also do others. For example, if a person will sell you pirate software, they will also happily infect it with malware first so you end up part of a spam botnet. So yes, people on BHW and the like will do things like this. The admins and mods, generally not, but the userbase in general... just be careful.

Basic rule: if you are hanging around with a bunch of pirates and thieves, YES, they will rip you off. They are not your trusted friends. In fact, their business is to gain your trust and take advantage of you.

Every time I try to hit that site, I get a malware warning from Norton Internet Security. Been that way for months.

I'd give them a wide berth...

    As far as B H W goes...

I have a friend who has met some amazing women, while they were working strip clubs he visited.

I have met some amazing people, both men and women, at the local starbucks.

I'd prefer to meet people at starbucks, but every now and then, a visit to the "club" might be useful.

Even though you can learn a lot there, and meet some interesting people there, I'd prefer to spend most of my time here, I mean at starbucks.

    Mr Twenty Twenty

PS: I had a guy I know give me $1,500 hundred in pirated software a few months ago. I never used it. When he ran into some tough times, he threw it in my face that he gave me $1,500 bucks worth of software. He didn't get, that he gave me $1,500 bucks in STOLEN GOODS, that didn't cost him anything. And that him giving me stuff he stole, didn't give him the right to money that I have earned. There is a mindset there that disturbs me, and I think THAT is a good thing. Avoid evil.
