I am assuming there is a lot of computer knowledge on here so I was wondering if someone can help me with this problem on my computer.

Every time I turn on my computer a 16 bit MS Dos program is trying to load or come one.

Here is what happens (in blue)...some of this might not make sense I am referring to notes I have taken that is why the info might be in the wrong places.

There are 6 windows of this program that opens and they all have an instal~3.exe file at the end of the file name. (the number changes for each window).

There is also a file called IN98C4~1.exe file name somewhere.

Plus the windows message says

The NTVDM CPU is trying to do an illegal instruction.

There are other numbers: CS 0546 IP:018D OP:63 6564 6564

I am able to ignore this and close all the windows and so far nothing has happened to my computer.

I have Norton antivirus it has been able to do a quick scan and find nothing but it hasn't been able to complete a full scan.

I really don't know what to do about this...any suggestions??

I'm not sure if this will help you, but here is what I do when confronted by such anomalies...

If you can access your desktop, go to START...FIND...and then type in ".exe".

Then look for the box where you can search for the "Date Created" (drop down menu) and set the date to the day before you had the problem through todays' date.

This will bring up the list of .exe programs that have been installed on your computer recently.

Find the ones that look suspicious and then delete them.

If you haven't installed any .exe programs yourself, and recognize such programs, then deleting the ones that show up should help with the problem.

KillerJoe...thanks that worked. It was an installer program. The day it happened I was downloading a program but forgotten I had this program on my machine so I stopped the download midstream, so I am assuming that is what this was about.

Do you have any OLD 16 bit programs that are running on your system? Sheck the startup programs:

    start
HOVER over all programs, right click, open
    programs
    startup
