The "Good News" Thread

Hi All,

We have all seen our share of "controversial" topics and bad news.

Let's have one thread where we share good news stories. No arguments, no politics, no anger; just items with a positive outlook.

These could be personal, local, national or global.

The idea is to share and get along. If you disagree with a news story, or want to further some agenda, then all I humbly ask is that you start a new thread to do so.

What do you say Warriors? Can we have one little refuge of positivity here in the OT? I say, YES!

In fact, I'll start with some good news from the world of medicine...

    I will have to read the news - haven't had time lately.

    Personally I am really happy because sales are rebounding for my main client (job security) - it is really amazing what a small change to the sales page can make. (well, and the bottomline cost to set-up)

    Double amazing because the holidays are typically slow online every year - not this year! The influx started right at Christmas and hasn't stopped -

    This may not sound thrilling to you but there is nothing I dislike worse than nothing to do and becoming lethargic. (or of course wondering when the other shoe will drop if sales didn't improve).

    Teaches me a lot about having faith in general and in my clients.

    I can't remember in recent memory where a new year seemed as positive as this one on all levels - head space as well.

    I think we are going to see a turn around and I think we are going to be a great nation again someday in spite of (well I won't go there).

    I hope everyone is feeling as good about the new year as I am.

      For me the good news is, a year ago I almost lost my house in foreclosure.
      Today I'm putting together a list of remodeling and rehab jobs for the house and deciding on what contractors to use and what I'll do myself.

          On October 26th of 2008 my 84 year old dad suffered a stroke. A bloodclot in his brain. The doctors gave him less that a 50% chance of living one more year. They wanted to put him in a nursing home because he needed 24/7 care due to his condition.

          He got out of the hospital on Nov 1st 2008, and after years of promising him I'd never put him in a home (his worst nightmare) I moved in with him and slept on an air mattress in his living room for the next 6 months.

          I nursed him back to health far better than any nursing home could or would have done and on May 1st 2009 I was able to get the doctors to take his status from a 24/7 watch to a more normal mode like regular folks enjoy.

          I was then able to move back home to rejoin my understanding wife and now just need to spend between 2 - 5 hours a day in his company.

          He lost his drivers license so I also chauffeur him into town 2 or 3 days a week, as well as to all his doctor visits.

          We had a minor celebration on Jan 1st of this year because he wasn't sure if he would ever live to see 2010.

          I can't tell you what a satisfying feeling it is to see my dads smiling face everyday. At 85, he won't be around that much longer, but it sure is nice to be able to enjoy him while he's here.

            My five year old son Ross beat me at Wii Sports ten pin bowling today.

            146 to 133

            The smile on his face and his celebratory dance were an absolute joy to behold.

            That is a great story KJ. I lost my Father about a year ago to cancer and I took care of him right until the end. My Father moved in with me. I dealt with the docs, nurses, meds, etc. Were are really close - always have been. I say 'are' becuase I know he's still with me.

            He was 78 when he finally had enough and past on. Everyday I wish I could just see one more smile on his face or hear his laugh - or even hear him bitching (he used to do that alot ), anything from him will do, but there's nothing. You know... you realize it will be hard when they're gone, but you never know just how hard until they're gone.

            I hope you and your Dad have many more years to share together. Thanks for the post.

              Sorry to hear about the loss of your father, and thanks for the kind words.

              When my dad turns 86 this year we're going to throw him a big party.

              This is the thing that scares me more than anything else in life.
