If there such a thing as Identity thelf?

I was constantly hearing about identity thelf? I went into the bank and asked a lady how she knew I was who I said I was. She said because of your signature. I said what if I was good at forging my signature. She said she would check my liscense,, and of course I said the same thing. What if have a forged liscense with all it forged. She said sir I don't have the answers to that question but it is a good one. Maybe you need to talk to our president. So I asked the president the same questions. She gave me the same answers. I said don't you think if you say my money and information I give is going to be protected, that you should put some kind of system in place so it will protect people from someone coming in to your bank and you letting them commit fraud using my information. I said I would appreciate you bring this issue up with your board members. The next time I went into the bank, I had to have my picture taken, figure printed and eye printed. I was so thankful for that process because as Popeye the Sailor man used to say, "I YAM WHO I YAM." And that is basically how I feel about myself. I am the same person as always and will always be. When we stop letting organizations put the blame in our laps for them letting info out where people can commit fraud then that is when they will stop playing games by us going through process and procedure from others mistakes. Now we have insurance companies hopping on the band wagon selling us indentity thelf insurance to make money off the good guys. I could go on and on but what say you?

Are we supposed to read this or decipher it?

Perhaps breaking it down into paragraphs would help.

Unless your bot is just posting this stuff on a lot of forums.

    Looks like it...

        You're missing the point here...

I appreciate the sarcasm, but the issue is the continual bombardment by drive-by posters who subject this forum to often meaningless copy/paste dribble for the sake of signature exposure. Especially coupled with a subject line such as the one you used.

The uni-paragraph is a flag for this type of activity because often the copy/paste function eliminates paragraph breaks. Add to that the over-the-top contact info in your sig and the appearance of spam rears its' ugly head.

Given that online communities often differ in what is considered proper netiquette many spammers simply choose to ignore the local customs and just flood the net with same useless spam across many forums. Often formatted the way your post is. Hence bringing into question the validity of your intentions.

But what you almost never see is a spammer coming back to defend or explain their post the way you have. So that would most likely put you outside of that catagory.

Having said that, I would strongly encourage you to remove the personal info in your sig file, not only due to the abuse it will attract for you personally, but other folks who look at the way you carelessly guard your personal information may naturally assume that any personal information they give you will be treated in the same careless manner. But that is purely your choice.

However, given the fact that your website appears to be nothing but links and yet you are asking folks to give you their full name and phone number along with their email address, you may want to consider those ramifications.

        Other than that, much success.

Putting skype and an email into your signature is asking to be spammed!

If you don't protect your own private information - why expect anyone else to do it?

Well, you know, the environment has gotten such that people are CARELESS, build it INTO the infrastructure, and encourage methods that are ASKING for trouble!

My Hospital doesn't even ask me my name! They tell ME my name AFTER I give them my birthdate! What if someone ELSE had my birthdate and called!?!?!? My old insurance company BROKE THE LAW! It is AGAINST THE LAW(a law put into place around the 80s) to use the SSN as an ID number. They DID though! That meant all that had, or overheard, my insurance ID number know my SSN!!!!!!(It took me MONTHS to get those IDIOTS to give me another number!) And look at the internet now! NO swiping, NO signature, NO whatever. Just a number that is REALISTICALLY only about 8 characters long! Pick a LARGE bank and most of the logically correct numbers are likely to be correct. And they have PHISHING!

When you call into your bank, they are going ot ask you for the last 4 of your ss#

The army uses your ssn...my dog tags say so. They havent used a serial number since around the korean war.

Godaddy has a unique account number. If you have any issues with the account and you need to verify your identity, they ask for ssn

WHY does the bank ask you for the last 4 digits!?!?!? Why do they often ask for, or print, only a PART!?!?!?

OK, the army asks for your SSN. Outside of such NEED TO KNOW situations, WHERE do they ask?

OK, I can't recall ever giving it to godaddy, but I guess they have a way of checking. STILL, WHY do they ask? HINT!!!!!!!!!! YOU ALREADY SAID IT!

If it were OUT IN THE OPEN for ALL to see. If you had to use it EVERYWHERE.... WHAT would be the point in asking for it? Traditionally, the government and financial offices have been the places it has been used.

Actually I believe Steve is right. The SSN was never meant to be an identification number. But the government has , I feel improperly, allowed it to become one.
And yes Steve, according to the information of wikipedia, the government did change it and no longer uses service numbers but does in fact use the SSN.

UNREAL! STILL, outside of being captured, or using it for things that the SSN would be on ANYWAY, WHEN do you reveal your service number?!?!?

After all, the idea is that the SSN is supposed to be SECRET and practically SACRED UNLESS there is a VALID NEED! SO, for example, if you open up a brokerage account, bank account, credit card, etc.... They need to check credit, identity, possibly report, so there IS a need for them to ask and you to give it. There is NO need for THEM to give it to others.

There are several states that have laws that say you can't even store Personal ID, and financial, info on a system unless it is ENCRYPTED! I had several customers that found, from others, that they had to do that. I know they WERE talking about a FEDERAL law, though I don't know if that has happened yet. STILL, things like HIPPA have some trying to be a LOT more careful.

And I LOVE(sarc) the old policy some had on the internet where the CC info captured via https(one of the most secure protocols) was merely emailed to them. Email is perhaps THE most INSECURE protocol ever devised!

I think you CAN buy, or own, a car with no SSN revealed! You CAN buy a house, and rent a car, without an SSN. I've done it! Heck, I don't even have to reveal my SSN over and over again to the bank! And my checks and cards don't have my ssn either.

BTW I am FAR from homeless.

      Balderdash.

JRR Toking's famous novel The Lard Of The Pings is full of nobbits, wazzards, dwarps, urcs and yes, thelves.

Ok, ok, that's fictional. A real life example is Sanitary Claws (Farther Crispmas). Aren't his helpers all caled thelves?

      I rest my case.

PS if there is no identity theft, then I've been wearing this paper bag over my head for nothing.
