Check whether the person was once a member of this forum but he's banned for one reason or the other.

I got a call from an old friend last night and he was telling me how he has been making some big bucks online. And how he has decided to help me to enjoy financial freedom this year by teaching me what he has been doing. Honestly, I became interested.

However, being an extremely cautious type, I decided to type his name in the search box here only to find out that he's banned in this forum. So, guess what I did?

I called him up this morning and told him that I'm not interested in the business anymore.

Why on earth would this person have your phone number? Just curious ...

He's an old friend. I have his phone number too. And we are in the same country.

Do you even know why he was banned? Maybe you did, but from your original post, it's suggested that you simply found out he was banned, and from there decided not to do anything further with him.

Also, he called you up outside of this forum, so why are you dragging that into it? You obviously exchanged details together to talk to each other outside of the forum, and he finally did talk to you outside of the forum, and then you go and drag the forum into it?

I only said I will not do business with him.

I dragged forum into it because he's an internet marketer.

I'm curious about that too. Sometimes people we knew years back and haven't seen for years change and become someone we don't know anymore.

#1: this whole search function thing keeps on popping up in threads in the main forum ALL THE TIME. So your advice should also be taken for the subject at hand too...to look for threads where it's already discussed....maybe?

#2: People are banned from this forum frequently. They also COME BACK. I've been banned, other warriors have been banned, and even some older warriors have been banned too.

It's just a lesson, to tell someone not to do something so much, some bans only last a week anyways, and some may last longer, but I don't think it's anyone's place to judge someone on that matter, if it's not something you are directly involved with to begin with.

I find it strange that you are refusing to do business with someone, because you SEE that they are banned, yet you don't even know why. It's quite impersonal and impractical at best, and as you said, you were interested, and they were an old "friend".

So suddenly when they make a mistake, they are not your friend anymore, and don't deserve the time of day? What kind of world is this now, where people are kicked in the nuts for doing something wrong that has nothing to do with the person who is trying to kick them in the nuts?

    ---

That being said, I have helped a warrior recently, who has been banned. They were looking to make 1000$ online, because they had a personal ailment that prevented them from being able to effectively work outside of the home.

Now they were posting in those regards, and whatnot, everything was good. So they were getting tons of suggestions, and since they seemed to like the idea of writing/article marketing, I told them it'd probably be a good idea to go over to the warriors for hire section and post a thread and get hired.

That's a quick way to make money. They didn't have a paypal account yet, were a new warrior, and a few other challenges. But I said that's not an issue, and got them to set up a paypal account, sent them the 20$ to pay for the "for hire thread", and also showed them how to set that thread up (as in what to write in there, and examples of other threads how other people were writing their sales pitches).

Now issue #1: was that once the thread was approved, I saw they had put it in the WRONG section. The warrior put it in the classified section, I believe. NOW, I thought that was a mistake at first, and maybe it was or wasn't, no idea, but I told them to ask the mods to kindly move it to the right section...especially since it's a paid thing.

So they said they did that. Next thing was that the thread itself was not even formatted and didn't even say the right kinds of things. Well that was according to me, it wasn't as clear as it could be, but was still approved none the less, so i told the warrior to make it more clear what they are offering and how much it is, since they were offering to write for others.

So i leave the warrior to that, and next thing I know when I'm checking it, they are banned. Guess what? They are still banned. Now I don't know why, and they don't seem to know why either (but let's be honest here, this warrior obviously is new to a lot of the online rules and other things, so not a walk in the park for them)...

But has that stopped me from talking to them or trying to help them or doing business with them? Heck NO! I have still been discussing with this warrior other methods and other resources they can use now to start making money online, and they have talked to other people since too, and have written some articles, made a few sales...so it's good!

I have even offered to hire them to write for me, for my own personal things, and I have no issue working with this person, just because they were banned. Because I don't know why they were banned (even they dont know), and they were also new to this forum, it could have been any reason, and I don't really blame them so harshly for something like that.

We all learn, and with this person, I'm sure it's something they can learn from too, and I don't think it would be fair to just say "bye bye, get lost" to this person I am trying to help, just because they made a mistake here on the forum and got banned.

And lately, I have seen some warriors with 1000+ posts being banned. Now I don't know why, we aren't really supposed to ask why either, that's their personal matter....but you know it could be a host of reasons, that aren't even such bad reasons.

    Could be something like:

Self promotion (plugging at oneself too much) or posting too much in one go (spamming the forum)...and sometimes warriors aren't even meaning to do it, but do it, and then learn the hard way that they were in fact doing it, and the know after the ban is lifted, what they were doing wrong in the first place.

It's just not something that I would take on so heavily.

      It's like you misunderstood me.

No human is perfect. We all make mistakes because there's no perfect human system.

As far as I'm concerned, I can help anybody without thinking of your profile or whatever but when it comes to doing business I'm always very careful.

Maybe my bad but I'm yet to see anything wrong with that.

As mentioned, you exchanged details to TALK OUTSIDE of the forum. Not sure if you met the guy on the forum or not, but you obviously made it ok to discuss things outside of the forum.

So he came to you, and without even giving him the benefit of the doubt or anything, you shut him out based on something another moderator has chosen, which you know nothing about.

It'd be one thing if this guy actually had scam reports, complaints and god knows what else about him on the net....but being banned from something? I find that to be quite harsh still, to say you won't do business with someone.

Also, is this guy asking you to invest anything like money, or just some time? I guess at the end of the day it's still your choice to see if it's worthwhile, but you will throw away a whole business plan based on one word: "banned"?

A person's personal drama and crap doesn't make a business plan invalid. Maybe the business plan itself does actually work, as long as there is not anything black batty about it, it should still be fine.

    Interesting point acrasial.

At first I thought that it sounds like a fair enough idea to do a little recon work before jumping into something...and still a good idea generally...but sometimes people screw up and it's not always an indication of their capabilities or integrity.

That said I've been less than impressed by some people, including some pretty well known guys and gals, and a quick search here would at least have given me reason to increase my level of skepticism.

I'd have to agree with the above posts -- it's a good idea to find out why someone was banned before refusing to do business with them.

Some of the reasons people are banned from here have nothing to do with whether they're honest or running a good business.

For example, we have a lot of temporary bans because someone just got a little self-promotional. Maybe they started pointing to their sig file a little too often. That alone really shouldn't be enough to make you stop doing business with someone.

So, again, find out the reason for the banning before making it a reason for not doing business with someone.

    Cheers,
    Becky

I was banned for 7 days because I told off some people who were ragging
on Michael Jackson after he died.

I deserved the ban, as you just can't insult other members regardless of
        the reason.

But to never do business with me because of it?

        Okay.

Your own case is totally different because the ban was temporary but the person in question is no more here.

BTW, I can do business with you.

Well, I have tried asking him but he didn't give me any clear cut reason for his being banned.

In fact, all he could tell me is that this forum sucks but he couldn't tell me why it sucks!

And I discovered from his Warrior Forum profile that he was hiding everything about himself while he was here. For example, he is in Nigeria but he said he is in USA and so on.
