Do you have a favorite comedy team?

You can have the Stooges. I love these guys...I think Groucho was the most influential comedian of all time...

Have you heard of a Japanese Duo "Downtown"? You can watch in in youtube, they are hosting a Batsu game "Gaki No Tsukai Arahende". I'm sure you will love them.

Marx Brothers and Smother Brothers are both great.
    Abbott and Costello were ok.
I never liked the Three Stooges, and for the life of me can't understand their appeal,
but I would have to say The Marx Brotehrs and Laurel and Hardy are tied for top comedians.

      What he said.

Chopped the last line, because I'm not so fond of Laurel and Hardy.

Dan Rowan and Dick Martin are underrated as a team. Burns and Allen are often forgotten. So are Fry and Laurie.

But top comedy team? No contest, no question:

Best seven seconds of comedy ever at 4:17.

Too many to pick a favorite.
    Marx Brothers were great.
Smothers Brothers. (How can you not like somebody who was kicked off the air for political reasons?)

Three Stooges...Great. (Frankly, this is first place I've heard a man say he didn't like or understand them.)

    Love Abbott & Costello.

    Burns & Allen...Great

I guess if a gun was held to my head I'd have to say Monty Python.

      Can't pick. Too hard.

But...greatest comedy bit had to be "Who's On First?"

Still laugh at it even to this day.

And A/C had many great bits. And...they could really act. At least Lou
could. Watch "The Time Of Their Lives" and you'll see. Their best film ever
      and not really funny.

Monty Python also had some damn funny skits, though their humor is a
little off beat for most Americans like me. I don't get everything they do.

Stooges weren't side splitting funny, but they had something that I can't
put my finger on. They had chemistry together, mostly because Moe
Howard was one hell of a glue. People don't give him enough credit.

Marx Brothers were great. Harpo said more with his mannerisms than some
people say with all the words in the world. Groucho became a
caricature (just watch all the impersonations) but Chico was very
talented and, IMO, the underrated one of the group.

Laurel & Hardy had one great movie, "March Of The Wooden Soldiers"
but for the most part, their short films were just so-so. Yet, they had
something too, another amazing piece of chemistry that made them
      greater than their actual material.

Martin & Lewis were also a good team, though I think they did their
best stuff when they weren't together. And let's face it, Dean Martin
was no actor. But he had personality and could sing pretty good.

Truth is, the best comedy "acts" throughout history have been solo
performers. Why? Because you have nobody to depend on but yourself.
That's why Robin Williams is so great. He does his thing. Put him with
any other comedian and it's just not the same.

That's why one of the funniest movies ever was "It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad
World." Each person brought their own little bit of insanity to the film
(highlighted by Mickey Rooney and Buddy Hackett / and Arnold Stang
      and Marvin Kaplan)

Show me somebody who can do great comedy and I'll show you a great
actor. Comedy may be one of the hardest things in the world to do well.

If I had to pick a favorite comedy team on merit, I'd say Monty Phython.

If I picked it on childhood memories and sentimentalism, then I'd have
      to say Abbott and Costello.

FWIW - I haven't watched a movie or show by any of these people in
a very long time. For whatever reason, I've become more attracted to
serious drama as I've gotten older than comedy.

Steven mentioned comedy from his youth, and it made me think of
waaay back when I watched The Little Rascal's. Alfalfa, Buckwheat,
Darla (?). They made me laugh.

I remember buying Bill Cosby's albums; Why Is There Air, and there
was another one that I can't remember. I can see the album cover,
though. I think it had a pic of him on a go-cart, and he did a routine
about go-cart racing. lol. I played the hell out of those albums and
    always laughed.

lol... He was a riot. I saw him on TV years ago. I don't know, maybe
8 yrs ago. It was recorded in Canada. He did this thing...lol... talking

He said one day his brother was outside and it was raining. And his

The story I'll always remember from Cosby was his one about cocaine.
He said he was at a party one time and someone offered him some coke.
What does it do, he asked.
It intensifies your personality, the guy replied.
What if you're an asshole? Bill asked.

This stuck in my mind, too, because it's the only time I've ever heard profanity come out of Bill's mouth on stage.

Someone once said "Cocaine makes you into a new man, and the first thing the new man wants is more cocaine." Looking it up... Robin Williams. Huh. For some reason, I thought it was Denis Leary.

I felt so bad for Robin when he was trying to get off cocaine. I saw him perform so many times, and when he tried to go clean, there were a number of occasions he'd come out and just be stinking up the joint for the first ten minutes. Then he'd go backstage for a minute or two, come back out, and be hysterical.

And I'm sitting there laughing my arse off because he's so damn funny... but at the same time, my heart is breaking because I know what he did in that minute or two backstage. And he's beet-red and sweating up there, and it's like a train wreck, where you're taking pleasure in his continued failure - and you know you shouldn't, and you know it's bad for him, but there's that deep-seated fear that if he gets clean the world will lose this forever.

There's something so poignant and horrific about the whole thing, the sort of willful schadenfreude where everyone says out loud that they hope he gets clean, but their actions just keep right on saying "do more coke."

I think watching Robin try to get clean was the only reason I never touched cocaine.

For English comedy, which could be new to some U.S. Warriors, certainly "The Two Ronnies" and "Morecambe and Wise" will always be most fondly remembered.

I recommend looking up the "Four Candles" sketch on Youtube.

If you liked the possibilities of miscommunication used on "Who's on first?" you should appreciate it.

Also an honourable mention must go to Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.
