You may choose not to look at this...it sickened me and I felt rather alarmed by the whole experience.
I once owned a bike and was lucky to have survived 5 crashes, spills, etc.
does anyone own one on the forum?

Sickening, but there are speed limits for a reason, going 120, if you crash or fall off, I think its hard to survive

Thats an old picture/story it has been circulating the Internet for a while. Motorcycles aren't deadly, morons on motorcycle and in cars are deadly. I'll lay money that he was riding at highway speeds inside of the trucks draft 'bubble'. I've done it before myself when I was young and stupid.

If you want to see something thats really sad look around for a video of a young girl that gets pitched off the back of a crotch rocket when her retarded boyfriend pulls the front wheel at about 65 or so. That story has been around so long that its actually made TV on Tosh.0. I've seen it on there twice now. She's in a muscle shirt and i think jean shorts, but atleast had a helmet on. She comes off the bike and pretty much hits the asphalt face down. Probably about a year after that video hit the net, the female actually popped up in a motorcycle forum with pics. Very pretty girl, nice shape and all. She had pics of everything after she 'healed'. She literally shaved her left breast off when she hit the pavement and had deep scarring from pretty much her shoulder to her ankle on her left side and a couple broken bones all because her jerkoff boyfriend wanted to show his ass to his buddies. THATS the kind of moron that ends up with his head in the back of a semi-truck.

On a side note, I just came back from riding mine doing some errands. Now im not saying that I ate a bug, because I didnt actually see it or feel it hit my mouth..but I dont remember my gum being crunchy when I left on this trip.

I've sometimes wondered if everyone rode bikes instead of driving cars - if roads might not be safer.

Pretty hard to put on your makeup or talk on the phone when riding a bike and with your body "out there" and clearly at risk you might look twice before entering a busy street or making a quick turn.

I know florida has drastically reduced the number of motorcycle accidents by making people go take rider safety courses as a requirement to get motorcycle endorsements. There are so many people, mostly younger, that have never been on a motorcycle before and the first bike they go buy is a bike that is capable of 0-60 in under 3 seconds with a top end of 150, or a cruiser that weighs 500+ lbs with enough torque to pull tree stumps. There was a girl in the class ahead of me at the safety class that had never even owned a motorcycle before, and had a moronic boyfriend that talked her into a Hyabusa for her first bike. She couldn't keep a 250 training bike off the pavement, so obviously the best choice for her first street bike is a 1300cc crotch rocket with the ability to suck your eyes out of their sockets at launch.

I had my first minibike at age 5 and I've only laid a street bike down once back in the day, and in my defense it was due to random gravel at a stop sign on an old country road. I've logged quite a few thousand miles on street bikes and lord knows how many on dirt bikes of various sizes. Safe to say i consider myself an experienced rider. But even I actively employ tactics that I learned at the rider's safety classes.

Absolutely Michael, I was young and had these urges sometimes to open the throttle.. whereas my brother was a sensible biker in comparison. I was a bit risky looking back.

Wow, a Hyabusa for a first bike. Uh huh. lol. Well, if she survives her first
serious scare, then maybe she'll make it.

I've been riding for a long time and have had bikes on and off since the early
80s. My very first time was on a minibike when I was about 14, I think. Fortunately,
my stupidity occurred on soft grass at my friend's farm. I went over a mogul type
thing and popped a wheelie. But I just kept going until I was looking at the sky
and landed with the bike on top of me. The ground was soft and I wasn't hurt.
But I remember just laying there looking at the sky and thinking how much of a
    dumbass I was. lol

But I learned to have respect for machines from that day on.

When I had dirtbikes i used to put them down all the time..thats sorta the point of a dirt bike.

Probably my 'best' wreck was a dirtbike on my gramp's farm. I had a little oval track kinda set up that ran the length of the field and at one end had some handmade berms on the corner. This end was also defined by a triple barbed wire/electrical fence setup.

Being the budding motocross star that i thought myself to be, I was really laying hard into the corners and riding the berm around. One time my enthusiasm overshot my skill and I dove into the corner a little too hot, lowsided over the berm and skidded into the fence. It wasnt to stop there either.
When i first started clipping fence posts with the bottom of the bike I was probably in the 45-50mph range. Its surprising how much momentum a 300lb bike/rider combo has at that low speed. I clipped the first fence pole then the next, trapping my newly formed pole collection under the bike as I was plowing up dirt. As per murphy's law, these two poles quickly turned into an ad-hoc pole vault which got me and bike flipping and rolling along the barbed wire fence, rolling me up into a nice big yamaha/barbed wire burrito. By the time it was all said and done i had clipped 4 posts and was pretty much lashed to a red hot motorcycle by barbed wire. Luckily the electric fence has been broken and wasnt still carrying juice or i'd have been wired to the bike and getting zapped by a fence hard enough to bring down a large bull

My 60ish year old grandpa was sitting on the porch watching this comedy unfold with binoculars. Now where i slid to a dirt spitting stop was probably 300 yards away from the house and gramps. My gramps was an old farmer..he was NEVER in a hurry, and because he had already told me about being careful on the bike and i didnt look dead or dying through the binoculars, he was in no hurry this time either. I had to wait for him to walk all the way down there to where i was unable to move, look at me to see if anything was sticking out. Once he see's im going to live, he starts grinning at me and says 'I havent ridden a motorcycle in a while...but I believe you're doing it wrong.' Thats the smartass farmer's version of 'I told ya so'. Then had to wait for him to walk back to the barn all the they way back up by the house to get a pair of wire cutters and cut me out off the bike.

That would of been a lot uglier if he was in a car doing 120 and rear ended the semi.
Like others have said, motorcycles aren't deadly, idiots are.
I've already rode through 14 states this year, biggest problems so far have been idiots driving cars as their second task instead of as their only task.
My closest call so far this year was from an idiot in a pickup truck who didn't want to be bothered tieing down his load.
Myself on my bike and 4 cars had to dodge 2 kitchen chairs as a group doing 70mph. Fortunately no drivers of the cars where doing anything but driving.

    It's not motorcycles vs. cars.

It's unattentive, stupid, idiotic vs. conscientious, aware and idiotic.

Sorry, but there are idiots everywhere! I know, I always get behind them in traffic.

Seriously though, it doesn't matter what type of vehicle it is. Everybody is right, it's the person in control of the machinery. You could just as easily chainsaws, pit bulls, televisions, weights, shoe laces and stairs are deadly.

      Exactly Mike.
The only reason I see more idiots in cars is simply because I see more cars on the road then bikes.
I will say the number of idiots around here on bikes seems to be dropping.
They may be idiots, but they are very effective at killing themselves off.

I swear, more than once, the very thought of "survival of the fittest" has kept me from losing my cool.

One big problem i feel is the influence racing has on the young biker.
I was 16 when I experienced the Isle of man TT races.
A 37 mile circuit twisting around the isle through villages and country roads, ever so dangerous.
Then there is `mad Sunday ` the roads are closed for the spectator bikers to try the circuit.
spill after spill i witnessed crazy is not the word for it..every biker imagines he racing as a pro.
some of them are more sensible, they just want to see and feel the circuit and just immagine the very high speeds of these professional racers speeding down parts such as Bray hill at 160 mph. ( a very twisty road village section.)
