Doesn't look to me like he learned a thing. He was talking about 'next time".
That 67 year old man carried a can around with him. It's not like he didn't warn him and move away to keep the peace.

      Good stuff Thom.

Wow, I find it hard to believe the bus driver just sat there, being quiet the entire time. Or did I miss something there? Seriously, the driver didn't ask the guys to clean up their language for the ladies, take it outside or anything, wow.

        Not surprising really.
I'd be willing to bet it was the driver that contacted police about it though.

Apparently the guy served in Viet Nam. Fair play to him for standing up to that guy.

And that's the way it was.

Should still be that way. People want to be that jive, they need some quick lessons in peace and order -- unfortunately, some people have to have those ideas kicked into them. Go figure.

It used to be that if a guy said something filthy to our faces or called us something, we'd just slap their face - stand up for our honor so we didn't get walked on...or worse. Now we're expected to just sit there and take it like simpering little slave girls. It encourages manhandling to do so. But that's the law. My favorite line when someone gets real wiley with me is "you're gonna look pretty stupid in court telling the judge that a 100 pound old lady beat you up".

My dad is retired LE, and if someone starts mouthing off, he's very quick to speak right back. If anyone were to try to get physical... he's got a hair trigger. I could see him in a similar situation in similar circumstances.

The guy in the video did right by retreating, and I appreciate him standing up for himself, but he also fanned the confrontation instead of diffusing it from the beginning. He's lucky it didn't turn out differently (i.e. a shooting or stabbing).

I disagree 100%. He was right all the way along. There was no need or reason for him to back down other than safety, and he proved he could take care of himself.

Thats exactly what bullys expect. They think they can piss on everyone and get away with it. Well, he didn't get away with it this time. He honestly didn't know what hit him.
And like most bullys, once he was away from the guy, he starts talking smack again.

I'm not much of a fight fan, but I would pay to see this rematch.

And if the lady did steal his bag and wallet,he says you can see it in the video, but I don't,then I hope she serves a term too.

Not sure if it was the first or second interview video, but he says the cops brought his bag back to him 3 hours later. I think it was the paper bag you can see the girl picking up and then smiling afterwards.

Something else I noticed was the kid didn't get real ballsy until the old guy said he was almost 70 years old.
That's when the punk got up and followed him to the front and punched him.
Yeah I liked how after the old guy got off the bus the punk started up again saying he'd kick his ass
I agree if the old guy backed down he would of been owned by that punk.

Some of the most peace loving people I know are nam vets. For most of them it takes a lot to piss them off, way more then I can take. But I'll tell you what, I wouldn't want to be the person that does get them off and they are all in their 60's.

I know, the "old" guy could have really done a lot worse damage to the other guy. He had him on the ground with his hand on the guys neck with most of weight leaning on him. He could of kept hitting and there wasn't any referee around to stop the fight. I thought he showed great restraint throughout the whole confrontation.

          Yep I got to agree.
That punk should of thanked the old guy for not beating him worse then he did.
I have a friend that is a flat out tough S.O.B., great guy but he can be a fighter when needed.
I showed him the video and the first words out of his mouth was "I wouldn't want to fight that guy".

Great, too funny... after 18 years as a COP I've unfortunately been involved in too many of my one on one fights and witnessed just as many. If there's one thing I've learned in all of those year's

"talk is cheap and if your going to talk smack you better be prepared to play as well"

Good for the old timer. Hopefully that nimrod will learn to bite his lip next time instead of having someone else split it open.

Old Thomas Bruso is an interesting person -- honest almost to a fault. As this drama unfolded, it turned out the younger man (50 years old) who attacked him was a wanted criminal with a violent background. The younger guy displayed a psychotic temperament in which even imagined slights will set him off into a violent frenzy. I've known people like that; they are scary. This time he f*cked with the wrong person, lol. He'll likely be in jail a long time with California's 3-strikes policy.

I hope they throw away the key.

Wondered if the woman saying "let it go" was the same one later asking the young guy if he was going to press charges.

I have no use for people like that - good for the old guy.

I think it's disgusting how many blogs are portraying the younger fellow as a poor victim of racism.
He's a victim of his own stupidity if you ask me.

EDIT: Just watched the older guy's video - he's a hoot. What is really sad about it is the racism comes from the black guy and some of the witnesses. Seems a bit odd that in 2010 the old guy would be told to "go to the front of the bus", doesn't it? Rosa Parks would not be proud of that young man (though turns out he wasn't that young).

Kay - with creeps like this, screaming racism is just an excuse to be able to do anything they want and avoid consequences for their actions. I know a few black people who would have wanted to get a swing in of their own just for the word "racism" coming out of that idiot's mouth in a case like this.

SHEESH! The term "my boy" existed BEFORE slavery, and is especially likely to be used by older people. Frankly, I think it is demeaning, but it has even been used to refer to ME! BY WHITES, and I am white. And it can certainly mean SON also, And BROTHER? Give me a break, that could mean ANYTHING! It could mean a male sibling, another male member of a group(like a lodge or fraternity or religion).

And why would a young black care about the musings of an old white in such a closed setting? I mean normally one wouldn't affect the other's life. Some old people say some crazy things.

Anyway, the Bible says that you shouldn't worry about anothers splinter if you have a plank. That kid certainly had a big plank.

BTW I don't think they count separate counts against the 3 strikes unless they are different incidents. If they did, they might as well call it one strike. In a bankrobbery, for instance, the average robber breaks at least three laws just before they ask for the money. They pull a gun, make a threat, and rob the bank. I believe each is a separate felony. Would they then subject that guy to the three strikes? I still remember when a guy that had TWO strikes was accused of stealing a piece of pizza, and there was an uproar that he might be subject to 3 strikes!

Families to Amend California's 3-Strikes: 3-Strike Stories in the News

    It also says:

the three-strikes law, which requires a term of 25 years to life for any felony committed by a defendant with two previous serious or violent felony convictions.

PREVIOUS, kind of implies different incidents.
