You wanted a pic - Here's my little guy that's putting up the mean fight against cancer.

He's doing just awesome other than we get flea infestations here and when they hit, he's very allergic and slips a bit. They tank his immune system. My niece is bringing something home from the vet tomorrow that will keep them off of him - even here where nothing seems to work. I hate to give him a toxin but his allergy is too severe not to do this.

He's got my heart - and my dedication at doing all in my power to beat the odds. So far, together, we're winning.

Have no clue what his mix is. Looks like Rott and ? and he is old but we're not sure how old. I have no clue how many years we are buying as he gets well -- but he is my best pal to the end. He trusts me and I won't ever let him down.

Bless him! He's got a bit of a rottie look to him, doesn't he, Sal, with the coloring.

He's lucky to have you caring for him!

Sits like one, too, Kay. The only other thing I can think of that would fit would be Greater Swiss Mountain Dog - not sure if there are any around here, though.

He's an awesome little guy - my sister is a cat person and shouldn't have dogs - she treats him like a cat, she had no clue how sick he was. When I walked in and saw him I went straight into emergency mode for the allergy. First 5 minutes he knew me he had a benedryl down his throat and I was combing fleas off him. He was grateful as hell and has loved me and trusted me ever since.

Kay - you know how it is better than anyone else. He was mine as soon as I laid eyes on him and saw his torment. I took him camping for the first time in his life. He was just awed. And at the end of the night when I laid down to sleep right beside him he was stunned. Then he curled up real close and just snuggled against me all night. We just plain needed each other. We're both much better off having found each other, too. I knew there was a reason I had to come out to this swill hole. LOL - Everything happens for a reason.

Oh what a beautiful dog, I hope he pulls through and is with you for a long time to come Sal. He is just gorgeous.

Dogs really are your best friend. We lost our dog a couple of months ago and not a day goes by that I don't think about him and miss him. I will say a little prayer for your Ricki and hope that he gets better and life treats him good!

Thanks so much everyone. Warrior support just rocks no matter what is going on.

Lynn - it really HAS been rewarding.

Gordon - exactly what I'm trying to do now - I'm in catch 22 up the ying, but I'll get him out of here somehow. This place is making me sick, too.

Steve - I am honored that I would be thought of well by a woman who raised a son of such high moral fiber.

Sheryl - I'm so sorry for your loss. It takes a LOT of time to get over the loss - but don't forget someone else out there needs you.

Sparkie2260 - I am thinking Chow more than lab. His ears sit wrong for rot/lab and his undercoat is extremely wiry - and his mouth is mostly black.

Edmund! Great to see you pop in here! So anyway - guess you know what I've been up to lately.

Ya know - one thing you learn from a thread like this is that there are a lot of people that will praise you for doing something that they would have done themselves if the situation arises.

Sal: He's gorgeous. Looks just like our gal, too!

Can you get these supplements in the US?

    http://udoerasmus.com/products/pet_essentials_en.htm

I use many of Udo's products myself - they are totally life changing. We give our pets his supplements and they love them, and seem to thrive on them, though that can be hard to determine in a healthy pet.

The main site is at: Official website of UDO ERASMUS > The Truth About Fats! > Omega3, Flaxseed, EFAs - Essential Fatty Acids, Fats That Heal Fats That Kill; World-Renowned Authority on Fats and Human Nutrition

If you go to the site, be sure to click on the sitemap to find a quick reference to his articles. He has some good stuff posted there.

Val - not sure if those are US also or not. He does get many unprocessed "meds" though - like the raspberry seed - I have picked it all myself so far. This winter it will be bought, but he gets fresh ground flax, too - etc and so on.

You said he looks just like your girl? What is she? I'd really like to know what his other half is even though he's enough of a stubborn blockhead to recognize the rott half.

I don't if there's anything more fun that taking a dog that has never had play or lovin' or SPACE to run and explore - and going to the woods or the fields or the beach.

They look around, they are cautious at first and when they realize it's ok to romp - they go nuts. It's great fun for both dog and person.

Well, I told him. His reply was to stick his nose where his gonads used to be and then look at me accusingly. I'm still trying to explain to him that there is nothing I can do about that one. I'm hoping the trip to the mountains tomorrow will be enough to make him forget about it.

Pat - after that kiss and hug I gave him for you, then this......he might have to have an ice cream cone, too. Poor guy.
