OK, so the thread I posted about possibly having a Newbie section wasn't that well received. That's understandable.

But here's one you're bound to like

An Oldie Section

With some notable Warriors celebrating their considerable ages over the past week or so, I think it's high time we catered for their special needs.

Given the new birthday feature, I'm sure that Allen could rig up an automatic entry once they hit the magic 50 (yeah, that's old enough!) And once they're in we could make them feel right at home;

  • Nice beige colour scheme with a dash of varnished pine and plenty of carpet
  • Large typeface for those tired eyes
  • Maybe some mellow musak
  • A panic button when they need the help of someone younger
  • Pictures of their favourite movie stars every now and then - like Humphrey Bogart, Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin.
  • We could also incorporate a loud siren to go off every fifteen minutes so they could stay awake.
What are your ideas?

So come on guys, lets not forget the things these oldies have done for us over the years and let's look after them in their twilight years.

Peter (tounge firmly in cheek with the knowledge that I'm not that far off the magic five 0 myself)

LOL very funny Peter. I needed that giggle today, thanks. Can I just add something though..

I am just under two years away from entry to this new forum, can I please ask that the movies stars are changed from

Humphrey Bogart, Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin.
To perhaps people like Mel Gibson, Sion Connery, Susan Serrandon (sp?) and the like because - hello!! - the guys you suggest, well my Grandparents were into them LOL

Cheers from this soon to be oldie

WHERE'S THE PANIC BUTTON (typed in bold and red, so that I can read what I've written!)

Um....Peter? 43? Sounds like you are planning for your OWN retirement.

Mind a word from Ms. Taylor, too?

Okay - I'll admit the carpet and pine sound nice. Large typeface isn't bad either as many of us are online a Looooonnng time.

Mellow muzak? Uh....does that include Korn, Disturbed, Megadeth, and Rob Zombie? That's as mellow as it gets for me thank you.

Alarms? As in clocks, sirens? Air raids or Martial law drills? Nah - I'd rather wake up with square imprints on my face as usual.

Mel's pic is fine - want one of Johnny Depp, too. A nudie or two of the chipendale guys wouldn't hurt my feelings either

Well of course! Get it in place now and by the time I reach 50 it may be nice and comfy - just like my slippers.

I think we might need to put some suggestions to the vote. Nudie pictures of either sex may put too much strain on the old tickers of the members.

Oh that's right. Being able to climb 14,000 foot peaks with a pack of cigarettes in use and having to pick up the younger lightweights where they stopped on my way down has a way of making me forget that some people, old and young, are just plain feeble. Point taken.

Not wanting to shock the old folk too much either so I vote semi nudity if we have to vote.
Yes, you have a point, too. "Shock" some, "Disappoint" others.

I guess I just got over excited ?! and just a bit enthusiastic about the upcoming changes.
Mystery has its virtues by all means. Partially clad will be more than fine, and very possibly more provocative.

BTW - men I like lean and mean - but chairs are only comfy when over-stuffed.

Ohhhh Johnny Depp, good call!! yes please him oh and Keanue Reeves as well (I do like to ummm "admire" some younger men also, they will do nicely).

Not wanting to shock the old folk too much either so I vote semi nudity if we have to vote.

Question, will there be "chintz" as in any of the soft furnishing coz not sure I can do Chintz not being very 'Laura Ashley' inclined.

I think we have to be as practical as possible. Chintz can be the harbourer of dust and bad taste. Low maintenance is the key. Although comfy chairs will be the norm I think there might be a need for plastic covers too.

OK that's good about the chintz and bad about the plastic covers, can you pretend there won't be any and then when I actually need them, hopefully I will also be suffering from senile dementia or something along those lines and won't notice or indeed care about the plastic covers. Thanks so much..

For me that's a definitely more provocative.

Oh, that reminds me. Maybe we aught not to let people out of this section unless they're chaperoned? They might never find their way back.

Good point Peter.. best to get these points ironed out now whilst we can still think fairly rationally LOL

On that note, will there be nurses (male or female) to dish out meds?

Can you have it all ready for when I get back from riding my motorcycle down to Florida? I'll be leaving Friday morning and covering the 1,200 mile trip down in 2 days. Spending a week riding all over Florida and then a 2 day ride home, so you got till the 26th to get it all done.

By the way. I prefer Frank Zappa, Little Feat, Kottonmouth Kings, and Bloodhound Gang for the tunes.

No problem. Consider your room booked. We've just had a member leave rather suddenly (so sad) so you can have his slot. Bobby-Joe has just finished his WWF massage course and will be on hand to care for your aching parts following your long journey.

Your music tastes may be seen as a little too contemporary for some folk, so we'll provide you with a set of headphones and a gramophone player for your personal use.

Just to let you know that we're fine with the female masseuse and the bong, it's the just the drums. Allowing a drummer in sets a precedent that could lead to a slippery slope of allowing bass players in. I'm sure you'll understand our predicament.

As long as the bong and female masseuse are ok, then I can live without the drums, I'll just bang on the masseuse instead:rolleyes:

                                              Some further considerations..

                                              1) Even though the rest of the forum is now member moderated I do believe you may need to appoint a moderator for this new oldie forum.

I have a feeling that even though this place is gonna be full of "Oldies" that it may turn out to be a bit of a riotous place, I am thinking that this set of oldies are not going to be anything like I remember my nice peaceful, well behaved grandparents being when I was a youngun and you may have lots of trouble if no mod is present.

I vote for Paul Myers because of his straight talking abilities - appointed mod gets to make up their own rules *insert evil smilie cos I can't find the real ones here yet*

                                              2) Considering the point raised in 1) above I think you might also need a couple of "bouncers" on the door to turn away the younguns wanting to get in once the rumor mill gets going and they realize it is "The Place to Be Seen"

                                              3) If the general consensus is that "Sue has lost it" and "she is rambling and spouting all kinds of nonsense" then perhaps you should consider letting me in early?

Good points Suzanne. If Paul wants to do it, the job's his. But let's not allow all this power go to his head. I've seen far too much adulation poured on this man recently, just because he makes some of the most interesting posts this forum has seen, people will start calling him a guru or even a messiah. He's not! He's just a very naughty boy!

As for bouncers I hesitate to suggest anybody for fear of... well everything really. So you can suggest away.

And have you 'lost it' Sue? Oh yes. But we could all tell that from the second line of your signature.

Like where's the pulled pork and BBQ'ed tri-tips?
Plus you have to have some Jack Daniels soaked, well, everything.
