This is not ME but from the forum.

I met both Carl Page and Larry Page at a party hosted by a Stanford friend of mine in 1998. Carl gave me his card for eGroups and said "we're hiring". Larry gave me his card for Google—a flimsy bit of paper obviously printed by bubble jet—and said "we're hiring".
I said, "Nah, who needs another search engine?" and went to graduate school.

What's the most expensive mistake you've made at work?

Well that got to be one of the worst decisions in his life - hope he has a great wife :-)

What do you think?

    LOL!

Yeah, I would hate to be the significant other who is still punching the clock years later and reminded daily of a golden opportunity lost!! We probably wouldn't even be together because the animosity would be too much to bare!

It's almost like deciding to NOT play the lottery numbers you play religiously every week then have all of your numbers come out for a $200m jackpot (with NO winner)!!!! I think depression would set in so deep you would . . . .

yea...his wife must have to have the late "Mother Teresa" like qualities to be that
    understanding haha

But seriously, we've all got regrets, but this guy nor Larry Page for that matter had any idea Google would become the powerhouse that is today. So, you can be too hard on the guy.

As for Larry's business card...I don't think it looks THAT bad.

I mean it's got all the essentials that you would need on a business card and has the same basic mixture of colors he still uses today for the symbol for "GOOGLE".

Nonetheless, it just goes to show how WE ALL start from somewhere, and often times it's from really humble beginnings.

I regret not buying 1000 shares of AOL when it was on the cheap, that was back in 1991. Still kicking myself for that one!

I actually thought, WTF is online and who the hell cares! No one is going to go for it! WRONG!!!

Ahh Larry Page is a great entrepreneur, possibly one of the best of all time. But as for the guy that turned down working for him, it clearly was just not meant to be. Google would have never worked if they hadn't started with a team of motivated people that truly always believed in the project!
