Hey - somethin' is different in here today...

I just replied to a post and my thread showed up at the top rather than at the bottom where new posts usually appear.

Woo Hoo - is this for real or am I seeing things again? Or has this always happened and I never noticed before.

Better get some more coffee into ye olde system!

It's always happened. In most sections of the forum a reply bumps a thread back to the top. Doesn't happen that way in the WSO section for good reason.

It's why we complain when a newbie starts making one line posts to year old threads - it bumps them to the top.

Either too much coffee -- or you need more

Hi Kay: I wasn't referring to the thread, I was referring to the posts themselves.

In this thread, for example, what I am seeing is your reply above my original post, and now my reply is on top of your reply at the top of the thread.

Wasn't the original post always at the top and the replies listed as they were made below the original posters topic? You used to be able to mouse over the post in the list of threads in the forum menu and see a preview of what the post was all about.

Maybe I reset something on my computer, but now when I want to preview or read what the original poster posted, what I see is the last reply at the top of the thread. If the thread is 3 pages long I have to scroll through to page 3 and down to the last post, to see what the OP wrote. Very frustrating. It's okay on short posts like this one, but on the long posts it takes forever to find what the thread was about.

It's hard to figure out what the replier is actually replying to if you can't see what the original thread was about when you first click on the thread. This is a Halloween trick, right? Either that or my computer has gone wonky as well as my brain.

Unless I'm really going bonkers (very distinct possibility...) the OP's first post was at the top of the thread, where it was polite enough to remain while everyone's responses were posted beneath, in order that the replies were made.

Now I see the replies first.

    I think I need a beer!

Val, go grab that beer, sit down and relax! We shall attempt to fix this - I think you accidentally reset something.

Try going to the UCP first.

      Then go to "Edit Options".

Now go to "Thread Display Options" Here, you will see the "Thread Display Mode". From here you can choose how you want the view the thread. Choose between "linear - oldest first " or "linear - newest first".

Check to see that you have the "oldest first", thus page one of a thread would be the beginning.

Hope this works for you. If not, have another beer and enjoy the evening!

      Best of luck,
      waterotter

    SAVED BY WATEROTTER!!!

    Phew - whodda thunkit!

Thanks Waterotter - I was playing around in the UCP yesterday and I guess I did <blush> change the 'Thread Display Mode' by mistake.

I removed all my info in my file with the intention of updating it, and I guess I clicked some wee boxes just to see what would happen.

And here I thought I was going bonkers. Big time relief - a successful rescue for this 'not the brightest star in the constellation' member.

    Thank You!

Now, if I could just remove this whole thread I wouldn't have to slink around in here on my belly trying to pretend that someone else started this embarrassing thread!

      Not to worry Val.

I have those moments when I type the word "the", then ask myself; is that how you really spell it?!!!?

At least you know to ask.

Once in a great while, fortunately, all of a sudden a word just doesn't look
right. lol. Seriously, it just looks so bizarre, and then I check the spelling.

I write a helluva lot. And sometimes my brain seems to be moving faster
than my fingers. I'll think of the words I'm typing, but I'll skip a word or
two. lol But I'll catch it and damn well know that I "thought" the word, just
        didn't type it.

The scary part is when I don't think to ask - and that has happened recently!
I have to admit, I suffered a severe head injury - it was not pretty - I thought I totally recovered, but my memory has never been the same. So, it can be very frustrating at times; i.e. when you know someone, but can't remember their name.

But then again, if they didn't leave that great of an impression in my life, I'm not to worried!

What really frustrating is when you check or uncheck some boxes and nothing happens that you can see. You know something happened but now you have to worry about what is was...cause you have no clue.

I didn't even notice! I never look at the numbers. Well, guess everyone will have to wait till 14,000 for my "special celebratory thingie". Remind me of that one when I hit 13,998 or I won't see that one either
