Just Venting Down Host

Ok I am getting seriously pissed at the moment. My host is restructuring thier internal LAN routing domain and pruning unnecessary vlans from their border routers.

This has been going on for about 5 hours now and they just posted another updated that this work is being extended. Now normally this would not bother me except every one of my 10 sites are completely down and can not do any work besides promote a none functioning site which really does no good besides increasing the links.

I have been lucky up to this point and have not had a single down minute for the past 4 months and then there is today during my normal peak time/day 4 full hours of down time. The only reason why it is 4 hours and not the complete 5 hours is because they had to bring everything back up for about an hour to update that it was going to be down for another 2 hours.

To make it even worse I do have another host I can get the sites active with but I can not even log into the panel to switch the ns. So I am pretty much screwed until they get this back up. To think I had all my work planned for this morning because I knew I had a pretty full day for today. Yet I can not do anything what so ever. This is so dang frustrating.

Do you have at least a vps for the 10 sites?

I also look after mid xx sites and would strongly advise never having all your eggs in one box. If you'd like a reliable host my best of the 3 that I use (even have a friend with rackspace but these guys beat him) - is scalahosting.com - I have the $130/m vps4 with them and it looks after my bigger sites. Been w/them for 3 years now, total downtime that was their fault not mine (i.e. my own fault being bandwidth exceeded or domain expired or other dumb 'ish - their fault being like what you're going through), = less than 20min.

      Cheers.

I do have a couple of hosts as I stated and yes I do Have a vps. But as I stated since they had the complete system down I was unable to go into the panel where the domains are stored and change the ns servers to my other host. So I was pretty much screwed until they finally got everything back up for atleast a few minutes anyhow.

You know like I said it wouldnt have been so bad except I would have had a few hundred visitors in that time span which also would have generated atleast 2-3 sales. Also the email that went out as well. With a total down time of 4.5 hours really hurts. Luckly 3 of my domains are located on godady so I could keep those going. However that did not help my main money site at all. Since it was trapped on the host with no way to access the ns to change it. Boy what a mess this has been. To top it all off they choose a saturday to do this crap the heaviest day I normally have on many of my sites. Cant wait to see what it did to my rankings for being down that long.

On the plus side though I do happen to know google just did their sweep a few days a go so it should be limited to what google and the other serps actually seen. However I did just make a post to the one that is my main money maker and which gets indexed with in 10 hours. However the post went live a few hours before and then every thing went completely dead. So no bots no visitors no money.

Either way crappy thing to happen bruh hope it's settled soon for you.
I thought about putting more on the other but the problem is a few of the sites get too much traffic for the other host so I would be down alot more then I was today. However they did seem to get everything back up a little while ago so now I am back to work making sure they didnt kill the sites and or files on the sites with the mess they created today. Thanks for the chat guys. Think its time for me to find another host that offers unlimited everything so I can switch out a few of the sites for future down times. Thanks for letting me vent a little here since I really couldnt do to much else but everything is back up now and looks to be up for good I hope.

I should have known something was in the works though because a few of my sites had been acting up all day yesterday. One site kept sending me to my 404 page everytime I did anything at all. Another was giving me server not found errors but if I would refresh instantly it was working. Another sent me to my home page when I was on the blog. Not to mention the traffic seemed rather low for it being a friday. That and it had pretty much stopped there for a little while and then came back. It was a really messed up time but all is working now FINGERS CROSSED.

HEY, MY host once moved the entire network, and THEN told me. Things were down a LONG time. If NS servers are your ONLY problem, which would be DUMB because they would be the EASIEST things to move, ESPECIALLY since internet conventions INSIST that you have AT LEAST 2 servers, and you can have up to, last I knew, SIX, and they are made EASY to replicate, you could simply hardcode your hosts file on windows and transparently access your website REGARDLESS!

A few days ago I had my site down because of a DDOS
    attack. It was irritating.

You should have a copy of your site installed on your
computer so you can continue content development.

Oh I got copies of just about everything and what I do not have a copy of is sent to my email every week. Which is the database for the blog and or entire site. So I am covered there. The only real thing I do not have copies of is the software I have created as promotional efforts. However I do have the files I used to name them and it is just a matter of naming them again and going though and replacing everything.

The problem is I delete most of the tools and the pad files once I have installed them. I think I am going to hit my host up with the saving of my entire account which comes free with my account. I just never really had a good reason to do so until now.
