EDIT: Knopfler is such a diverse, masterful guitar player that I've often felt the inclination to cut off my own hands around the wrist area, whilst listening to him - just so I don't have to attempt to be as good as him, even by a fraction.

Love the Classic Rock from the 80's - Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Marillion, Journey. Can't beat any of it. For some reason kids of today say it is music from the showw "Glee". How wrong.

One of my favorite 80's bands never quite made it to the big time. They had great power pop songs. I must have seen them at least a dozen times on the Riverboat President in New Orleans.

The Producers

Their debut album, "The Producers", and "You Make the Heat" had a bunch a pop-rock gems. My cover band played a few of their songs (they were huge in the New Orleans area).

LOL, I just remembered my parents used to have that other Christopher Cross song, "Ride Like The Wind", on an almost infinite loop at one point, when I was very young. Drove me friggin' nuts!

However, there are tons of artists I like from the 80s. From the megastars to the one hit wonders. Far, far too many for me to list here.

Oh, another good one was The Lords of the New Church.

Madness, English Beat, The Specials, Talking Heads, Blondie, The Ramones, The Plice, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, The Nails, Total Coelo, The Waitresses, Pretenders, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Rose Tattoo, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, INXS, AC/DC, Adam and the Ants, Falco, Beastie Boys, Violent Femmes, XTC, etc. I could probably list a few hundred more, but won't.

I like Dire Straits too...and I particularly love the line ' like the Spanish City to me , when we were kids' as I well remember visits to the Spanish city when I was a kid.

Sadly when I took my kids to Whitley Bay a few years back I found the Spanish City in ruins.

While the bulk of the Eagles' output was in the 1970s, their last studio album prior to long hiatus, The Long Run, was released in 1980 or 1981...so they count.
