I saw this posted on CL in the wanted section (not personals section) and when I read it I couldn't stop laughing:

I am desperately looking for the company of a man. I am lonely and wud do anything for attention right now. I am currently chasing a married man who really doesnt want me. You can look my picture up on the sedgwick county jail website.
Thanks for looking
Their name
Their phone
Thought I'd share it with others who may need a good laugh!

Maybe I've lost my sense of humor. No offense intended, but I find it rather sad. The person is not in a good place. I assume you're talking about the picture reference, ie on the jail site, but the emptiness she feels weighs heavier than the humor to me.

      Hi Dennis,

I guess the part that made me laugh was the mention of looking at her picture on a jail site, not exactly a good way to try and get a guy interested in you in my opinion, and it just made me laugh.

      Cheers,

      Debbie

I get that, Debbie. It's just that the older I get, the more sensitive I seem to be to the pain others are in. It bothers me when people are lost in their sorrow. Some live for years like that. Some give up. I find happiness comes so easily, I just wish I could help others see their way out of the morass they find themselves in. That just outweighs the humor to me, but we certainly need reasons to laugh, so more power to you if you can find more humor than I in it.

I do agree with you.. at first you would laugh at her.. but as a human you can sense the emptiness within.. maybe what she needs is someone she can talk to.. a friend or a relative..

I think people need to lighten up - it's a joke post. People post like that frequently on CL because they can do it free.

I'm not wasting sympathy on someone just showing off by being stupid - or is there only one picture on that jail site???

With all due respect, Kay, there is no way to know if that is a joke post or not from the OP. Making assumptions like that is so easy, though, isn't it? It's handy too, because then we don't have to let it bother us.

It isn't that at all. There are so many documented bad things where we can help a person in crisis or an animal in pain. Empathy and compression are great - but I have to believe a story before I sympathize.

I've seen too many postings like that - and I know a couple people who have placed them, too (they were bragging as they thought they were hilarious). There is usually a clue - and it often has to do with mention of a jail site.

I may be too cynical - but even if I believed it, someone who wants a man doesn't tug at my heartstrings.

No offense Dennis, but didn't you also make an assumption?

Hi Thom - do you mean you can't see a difference in an "assumption" that takes an ad at face value, and an assumption that changes that face value by adding "assumed" elements to it that aren't present in the original ad? Those are two vastly different kinds of assumptions to me.

Here's something you may have missed ... I didn't tell anyone else how to think or feel about the ad. I only gave my thoughts on it, and I even said "we certainly need reasons to laugh, so more power to you if you can find more humor than I in it." ...yet I was told I need to lighten up, as if I have no right to my own feelings.

No worries though. I'm sure Kay and I are still good. No one agrees on everything.

Dennis if you ment didn't see the difference in an "assumption" that takes an ad at face value, and an assumption that changes that face value by adding "assumed" elements to it that aren't present in the original ad.
Then no I didn't put that much thought into what you said.
When I read the ad I immediately assumed it was a joke by the way it was worded. So when I read your reply to Kay I saw the humor in that also, hence my reply.

If you did mean can't, then you really need to stop assuming.

That's why this conversation is like this, I've had a bad cold or the flu for about a week now

Oh dear - I went away and missed the whole fuss.

I think it's a good thing that we see things in different ways. Don't you think how we see a potential problem/joke goes back to our own experiences and attitudes?

I might be disgusted by someone whose biggest complaint is "can't get a a woman/man" while you may see a lonely person behind that statement.

Yet I waded into a fight to save a dog (and was bitten by the dog I was saving as he was hurt and hysterical) and many people would say "look at the dog fight" and keep walking. I think we care about things that matter to us and that's where we spend our sympathetic dollars.

It's perception and past experiences. Because we see things differently maybe the sympathy ends up evenly spread around?

                          We're all good:p

When I first got sick I figured it would go away quick on it's own, proving I'm not always the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Tonight I got my arsenal of home remedies going and am starting to feel better already.
Chicken soup, o.j., hot water with cider vinegar and honey always do the trick.

No, he is choosing to approach a potentially sensitive subject with a perspective of precaution in my view... since the answer is not known either way he is deciding to hold the situation in a healing vibe, from a guardian standpoint, rather than to laugh at it.

                I "dig". ("Dig" means "understand").

Lets hope someone does the same for us, if we are ever desperate... even though it could potentially be not noticed by the masses of passers by who look upon it with skepticism. Those are always gonna be there... and as Sal says , its all good... but every now and then...someone really needs to be seen, like this example...and praying for that one person out of the skeptical masses who will know they exist, and hope something good for them...

                So, Dennis is being that.

Polarity . Its all good. Contrast.

Might be a joke, and that has meaning for those who think its funny... but it might not be a joke at all, and thats where the meaning of guys like Dennis come in.

I suppose its a mixture of the vibrations we harmonize with.

There is so much distraction is this life... millions of things to look at and think about... we want this, we want that... no we dont want that anymore because we have outgrown it... we visualize this and that... and even opposing things.

So, what we "get" is a mixture of things. We get the Frankenstein version of what we wanted, put together from all these diverse vibes and thoughts we put out every second.

Having your highest wanting involves clarity of intention, behavior, action, you have to "be the ball".

The only way to do that is to put blinders on and keep your eyes clearly fixed on the prize... and be the dreamer and the doer, and the embodiment of that goal.

Those who keep their eyes on the prize and have "Clarity"... are the ones who actually recognize their own creations when they finally manifest.

The rest are just in a daze looking around at all the bells and whistles... attracting nothing focused or clear but rather only disoriented versions of their true dreams, and saying "this isnt what I ordered"... but it was, they just didnt create deliberately, because they didnt understand fully that they were creating. They sent out all kinds of vibes instead of a clear one.

      Hope this helps.

      My two cents.
