So, farewell Captain. In this X-Factor/Idol world, you'll be sorely missed.

That sucks! (Though I have to admit I thought he died a few years ago)

    Here's one I always liked...

And of course Trout Mask Replica is a classic album...

A true lunatic, we need more like him.
The Captain and the Grunt People did some wonder stuff, he will be missed.

    Okay...

One more that may be a bit more "familiar" to the average ear.

    Oh Wow! That does Suck!

I remember all of the great posters in the 1960's from the Avalon Ballroom, Family Dog and the Fillmore Auditorium in SF, CA. Some of the best were of The Captain's shows.

I can't remember if I actually saw him in person though (remember 'if you can remember the 1960's you weren't really there') -

    RIP, Bro Beefheart!

The first time I heard Captain Beefheart was off a compilation album. ( It was also the first time I heard Zappa).
I can't remember if it was on Warner ot Bizzare records, which I think was Zappa's first attempt at his own label.
I just remember it had them both and it was the first time I hear Willie the pimp.
I faintly remember GTOs (Girls Together Outrageously) being on it.

Never been a real heavy fan, but I enjoyed him when I heard him.

Van Vleit retired from music a few decades ago to concentrate on his painting career. I like his abstract paintings. Here's a few of them:

    Hi Greg,

All you need to do is copy and paste the URL for the YouTube video, and the forum will parse it for you.

Funny you mention Letterman. That was where I first heard of Captain Beefheart. It was one of my first exposures to music out of the mainstream. Good stuff.

    Rock on!
