In the old days with none of the modern comforts we have today? Like the pioneer days. No electricity, indoor plumbing, no refrigerators, computers, central air and heat, no cars, no washing machines, phones, wal marts, etc.

I couldn't.

    LOL at Ken.

No I don't think I could cope AG. Wouldn't want to, to be be honest.

Hardship is very overrated IMO, and being reduced to basic survival leaves no time for any of the more important things in life. 'Mod cons' give us the time and space to think about life, read a book, learn a skill, discover new information, invent things etc etc if we choose to do so. The fact that many choose to spend this extra time endlessly watching TV or sports or drinking themselves silly is neither here nor there; it's having the luxury of choice to be able to do more than survive. I think that's what modern life has given us.

All his posts are gone, so are the threads he started.
I'm thinking he got his account deleted.

      To answer your original question.
      Yes.

Yeah, I saw Allens posts, and now they are gone. Unless he deleted them for some reason. Nothing controversial in them so I can't see a mod removing them. Hmmm.

Can we delete anymore? I was gonna delete a thread I made before anyone responded, as I was having trouble embedding the vids. They came up the first time but disappeared when I edited a few words. So I figured delete the thread and do it again, but I couldn't find the delete button anywhere.

(I figured out the embedding prob for those having similar probs: make sure when editing you 'Go Advanced' there are check boxes there and you get to select if you want them embedded. Dunno whether that's a new feature or I just missed it before)

I think there's an evil mod around I have seen several posts vanish lately. And not bad posts, just regular posts.

Whaaaat? Surely not for those last 2 posts they were innocent. Unless he's been having one of his rants at the wrong person?

Aww, he's usually not serious, I mean he's had some heavy spats with Kay and the next minute they are pals again, so he's not mean.

AG, you used to able to delete your posts as I've done it once or twice, usually when I've just posted it and it's unlikely to have been read by many. Just thought twice about getting into an involved discussion at that time so clicked delete and it was gone.

Maybe Admin stopped it because people were doing it when the posts had been around for a while for people to read, and that would be confusing especially if someone had responded to it - I've seen that happen in a few threads and I couldn't figure it out at first.

LOL - as for the original question. Yes, I could survive - and so could the rest of you. It would just take some getting over our cush existence that we have grown so fond of.

As for disappearing posts? That has happened before in the forum. When the Nonsense thread got to 50 pages or 70 or something posts throughout it and new pages disappeared here and again. I think some of it is just gliches for the most part but sometimes people delete their own posts here and again, too. I really wouldn't waste a lot of thought on it. You will need your mental energy for figuring out how to get your clothes springtime fresh without those little sheets you put in your electric dryer in case we are suddenly reverted to the nether years.

This is more then that Sal.
You can't find a post or a thread by Allan on the forum anymore. It's like he never existed.
He did start a thread today about that kid who committed suicide on the Internet. I know when someone else started the same thread it wasn't meet with open arms.

Yea, we could all do it. Go on Amazon and look for "Foxfire" they are a series of book on "how to"...make a chair, wash clothes without fancy Tide, how to milk a cow, etc. It's the forgotten mid 18-19th century technology that is concisely written for us modern folks. If we EVER need to spin yarn, make soap from wood ashes, make our own perfume from flowers, these books tells you how to do EVERYTHING that we take for granted.

I lived in a travel trailer with a lamp on a property with a well for about two years. You know what---I miss it! I cooked outside with wood and cast iron, using an old oven rack and bricks for a bbq. It was great. Quiet, peaceful. I used to read by lamp light. Studied and wrote children's stories. You may be surprised how going country might effect you.

I freeze in the winter with my thermostat set to 70. I would die in the winter with no central heat.

And how to make your own soap?? How to wash your clothes with no washer, detergent? I know how to dry em by putting them out in the sun.

How to sew. How to get well without doing to the doc and getting a prescription.

Most ppl like me dunno how to do any of that. I don't think I could live like that even if I had to, I am too used to this modern existence and have never been taught any olden type ways.

The Amish are still doing it now though.

About spaceman- whatever happened to n/a? I thought if someone got zapped their posts still remained but instead of their username it was n/a. Some people have said some pretty rude or controversial things before and they didn't get zapped, so it's just weird.

It would be extremely difficult but I guess I would have to make do. One thing I can not do without is my drugs, espcially those that due to blocked nose and asthma.

Concerning spaceman, I thought it was a bit strange. I think he has toned down his posts recentely already. We really do need interesting people on the OT forum.

Sonora - only Allen has the power to ban someone. I have checked around and have confirmed that Thom was correct - he has disappeared, yet his profile remains...to me that means one thing. Allen deleted his posts himself for some reason. He might have gotten pissed off. He told me once he was about done here. He might have felt he was being watched and just erased himself for "security" purposes. Whatever his reasons, he definitely flew over, eh?

I've noticed on this new forum that those who are banned are "gone" as far their posts go.

I haven't been here much past week or so and have no idea what happened with Allen. Arguing ideas and theories and disagreeing about them is, for me, about the ideas - doesn't mean I don't like the person. He knew that.

That makes no sense at all -- most of the threads he was in will make no sense now, with a bunch of holes. And what about the ones he started? Do they start with the replies, or does the entire thread just disappear? Makes no sense.

Phnx answered your first question I see.
AS to you second, I don't have a clue.
I notice the thread that I posted in that Pat thanked me for is gone also.
I'm thinking since the original thread in the main forum was deleted they just deleted any related to it also to clean things up.
No big deal, the original thread was just one of those "he said, she said" spat between a couple of Warriors.
I'm glad they where all deleted.
The first thread was just trash and the other two threads where 'guilty by association'.

Yeah, it was the missing 'thanks' that I first noticed too. They're addictive, and ego stroking for sure. I got thanked over 25 times for that 'Harlan' thread and now they're all gone. I miss them, and I want more, more, more!

You think you can't because you're accustomed to the time you're in but if you were born then you'd do it just like anybody else. How to make soap: Soap Making Methods | Teach Soap | Soap Making Recipes, Tutorials and Tips

Medicine: I was dying from asthma...in and out of the hospital three or for times a year...I was on five inhalers, two maintenance meds and steroids for YEARS. Hyssop, honey and lemon literally CURED me. I'm not on any meds now, and I use herbs most of the time excepting occasionally I use antibiotics....VERY rarely. I'm doing MUCH better now WITHOUT the meds. Diet, exercise and natural medicines IF I need them.

After my wreck, I went to the doctors for six years and only got worse. they wanted to put me in a wheel chair, called me a hypochondriac ( they couldn't find why I was in so much pain...a neurologist finally figured it out --post herpetic neuropathy, chronic ganglionitis, chronic diskitis ), then they wanted to give me a morphine pump into my spine, then they told me that if the inflammatory attacks of the ganglion and disks didn't stop...it would kill me within a year. So, now almost two years later....on herbs and acupuncture...I'm walking without assistance, going for a masters, working on a business. So, meds have their place---but personally, I don't depend on them. I'll go to a field and find my medicine first.

keeping warm: layers. knit house socks. blankets ( I LOVE my home made blankets & house socks!). Use a pellet heater...keeps everyone toasty. They are like a cast iron belly stove, with a pipe that goes up through the roof and you burn pellets in it. They have been used since the foundation of this country. My aunt in Pennsylvania has one. I couldn't believe that she purchased it at an estate sale ( the thing was made in the 1850's ) and keeps the house ( all three stories ) WARM in the dead of winter!

Seriously, if the economy collapses while the New World Order gets set up, we're all going to have to come up with ideas on how we are going to make due without all the modern conveniences.
