URGENT: Matt Cutts is Rumored to be Talking About a New Google Penalty...

I hear a rumor floating around that Matt Cutts is talking again about new Google Penalties...

Some of you say that we should never listen to Matt Cutts because he only tells us what Google wants us to know...

Yet others say that we should hang on his every word, because it is his job to tell webmasters what Google is thinking...

The really paranoid among us are always quick to point out that Cutts worked for the CIA while in college, and that predisposes him to use disinformation to lead us astray about what Google is really doing behind the scenes...

Still others are so super-paranoid that they suggest we should always listen to Cutts, because since his job is to lead us astray about the inner-workings of Google, and he is smart enough to know that we think he is always lying, so he tells us the truth, expecting us to do the opposite...

Regardless of the opinion you take about Matt Cutts and the words of wisdom he passes to small business owners, I tend to believe that this rumor is more than just a rumor.

In fact, after having heard this rumor that Cutts said it at a recent SEO seminar, I am actually quite concerned about this rumor being true. You know how rumors are... You cannot be sure that everything you hear is true... But honestly, I would not be so quick to dismiss this one...

Given Google's past history with ranking penalties, I think we would be foolish to ignore this rumor... And if it proves true, it will be the end of my search engine rankings!!!

I don't know about you, but this literally scares the **** out of me...

I currently rank on page one of Google for thousands of keywords, and enough of those rankings are on keywords that make money...

But with this new Google penalty, I am greatly concerned that my rankings will just vaporize overnight, and with my rankings going south, so will my income...

If you own a website on the Internet, and you rely on Google for any amount of income, then pay close attention to this. This is very important information to understand.

When Matt Cutts was talking to Danny Sullivan about new Google Penalties, he strongly implied that Google would start implementing a new algorithm penalty that will soon be known as the original content penalty!!!

Paul Myers: I know this thread is in the wrong forum, but please leave it here, as many people will want to know this information, including those outside of the SEO industry.

See Paul, Owners Often Fail to get this inside information that can seriously affect their businesses in a negative way.

So please let it ride...

        Harp away.

Just consider why there might be limits on such things, and you may trade the harp in for, say, a harmonica...

As for the rest of the thread, I can't believe how many people will miss the critical words in a post and respond from reflex.

          Paul

I actually think there is a marketing lesson for anyone who has gotten this far down the page.

If people are missing the critical words in my thread, what are they missing when they read your sales letters and your products?

          You might just be surprised....

          Test it to find out...

Just because you said it, doesn't mean that people got it...

Check Dan Rinnert's thread from earlier. People missed the critical words AND the big red letters in subsequent posts. Makes you wonder ... a little bit.

Backlinks are not the basics. I can show you a website that is #1 on Goolge for almost a year now, with competition of about 10,400,000 results (over 10 million NOT a typo), and according to Google the site has 0 (ZERO) inbound links, Yahoo is a little more realistic and gives it 10 inbound links. I recently added a PR 3 link to the site in an effort to get the guys business for another year. WHO wouldn't pay $120 for hosting for 12 months for a site that has locked up #1 on Google for at least 10 months with competition of over 10 million. #1 on Goolge gets nearly 50% of the clicks for any given keyword search

#2 comes in with 60,517 links. #1 = 10 links #2 = 60,517 proving that links are not king if you do not have the content & SEO maximized for your chosen keyword search.

After I got the guy #1 I tried to sell him some links to secure his #1 spot, how silly google made me look after 10 months of #1 rankings for broad search terms for a website that has basically no links, and I bet of those 10 links it has, they are all valueless links (no google PR for page where link is published) according to Google.

while of course 0 is better than N/A, it is nothing to brag about, also Goolge PR does not determine who is #1 either.

FBI comes in at #3 with their PR 5 page and over 600 links
but #1 is PR 0 with 10 links, hardly a competition, PR and links are nice, but they do not secure #1, #1 is about SEO, content, form, structure, Keyword density, keyword prominence,
keywords spread across ALL your html elements. Further proof of myths that folks commonly believe.

The proof is on the Google #1 SERP's, it takes some SEO techniques to get into the top 10, and some real skills or knowledge, or even some tricks to get #1. Everyone cannot be #1.
I have one website I have battled with on Goolge for over 10 years, where my client is #2 and the competition is #1. My client got tired of paying for little tweaks to jump back into #1, because she found out #2 does yield 1000's of clicks per month.

Well done Bill on giving us this all important heads up. It has been well known for some time that original material is viewed with great suspicion by the SEs. Most so-called original material is re-spun by content spinners, so it is easier for the SE's to lump all material into one basket, and treat it with disdain. Only when a piece of material has passed the duplication test, i.e. been reprinted around the net, then and only then can the SE's know, without submission to a human evaluator, that the material is bona fide, 'real' English...and not some Genetically modified autospun hybrid. The duplication test is the only true test of a material's relevance, and its human intelligibility. I also heard that one of the Search Engines promotes the 1000th piece of duplicated content to first place for that subject. I may create a piece of software for my inner circle that targets the all important 1000th duplicate re-iteration. However, I may also, for a very limited period of time, release the software to the hoy polloi, for a bargain $197. I'll see how I feel.....

Also bear in mind that SE's use duplicate content to create their latent semantically indexed databases, and they therefore favour duplicate content over original content because they can use it for semantic profiling. I hear some people have has sites de-indexed for brazenly creating repeated original content. The SE's will tolerate it once or twice, but if you keep producing original content, it raises a red flag, and the SE's will assume you are content spinning, and you are in line for a slap. Duplicate content from high PR state owned News sources is best - its a win win, because you get good rankings, and you won't get arrested for thinking outside the Party box.

But the bottom line is, you should always worry about duplicate content. They punish for it now, and they'll punish for it more later. Long live SEO, but doorway pages are dead.

The question is whether he is mad because he realized it was a joke, or is he mad because he thought it was real?

Bill, you had me riveted to your post until the very end, where I had to do a double-take on the original content penalty statement, after which I just burst out laughing! It sounded so believable and real till the very end, and I'm sure we're going to be camping out here for a while marveling at and judging the most absurd/silly comments that pop up!

Paulie as good as this one was, Dan's was better (not just because I was the first one to instantly fall for this one) But the line in Dans warning people of the impending doom if they should not read properly was classic.

Bill's was just to well written and too hidden (Again not making excuses for my little slip up (Okay maybe I am))

But both were great fun to read.

      Thanks Guys

Cathy, let's just agree that these two threads have been incredibly hilarious, and a source of endless amusement. Both were 'doom and gloom' type posts albeit coming from different angles, and Bill's was so subtle that many people will completely miss the point...but I think it packs an incredible punch at the end, like a dramatic movie ending...lol!

I've heard of "He who laughs last, laughs longest", your one is new to me but heck, what do I know.

I must admit it was all a bit believable. No one knows what Google's going to do.

Richard, you're absolutely right. Bill picked a topic and scenario that is true for the most part, and as a result he drew us into his web of intrigue, and only the keen-eyed among us would have spotted the three word phrase in there that was absolutely false!

Very true but I'd like to hope it was more than just the keen eyed who looked at "original content penalty" and didn't realise it was a joke...(Cathy is excused, she's been in the wars lately).

In all honesty, it would have been very easy to miss, especially if you were just skimming over the post. After all, there was only one word different within that phrase - it should have read "duplicate content penalty", but Bill changed one word in there so that it became "original content penalty" instead.

lol... Actually if I recall correctly, Google did try to implement a backlink penalty years ago... maybe 4 or 5 years ago now? I used to work for a SEO company ages back then and I recall the boss saying something about that...

Meanwhile, I actually work for the same company now as a freelance IM blogger... the last article I wrote for them was on Google's new algorithm. I had to laugh because Google also claimed they were able to immediately detect hacked sites which "was a main source of spam for 2010".

In 2007, they did a penalty of sorts, where they discounted "paid links".

The have never to my knowledge implemented a true link-related penalty. Instead they ignore a lot of links, giving them zero value.

If they did real penalties on links, I could bury my competition in a hurry.

It was absolutely hilarious to see well-intentioned people rush into that thread to offer "helpful" advice/opinions that were all wrong because they didn't read through that original post thoroughly, but instead jumped the gun after reading the first few sentences!

This is ploy to see if people read the posts properly.

        LMAO....outstanding John!

This has got to be one of the best joke threads lately...possibly ever!

People are so quick to jump on the duplicate content penalty bandwagon that they will believe almost anything about it as long as it sounds really really bad...hell, they even twist completely opposite ideas to fit it somehow (as in this case).

Many kuddos to you TPW...very well played!

That has to be the best SEO Joke ever :p

This penalty must already be in effect. My month old site with original articles doesnt place at all in Google but is positioned on the third page in both Yahoo and Bing.

Perhaps the gentleman here who will save Google millions can convince this Cutts fellow to change his mind.

    Unfortunately, the penalty is real.

You create original content, such as something that answers a burning question.

Google then takes it and provides that information to searchers at the very top of search results.

Your site, no longer necessary, is buried.

It's funny to see what you guys do for fun around here. A good friend of mine wrote a similar post in my forum for April Fool's Day but I didn't happen to see it until a few days later, when it had about 20 responses. I thought it looked even more serious because it had so many responses so I read through it, wanting to follow the conversation all the way through. Well, he got me. He got me good.

This thread though, it was too short to be thought as serious as my friends post, and it was given away too soon. Still making me smile though.

If it was not intended for that and is really of some factual evidence then I think I am even more scared. This could be the end of a whole lot of stuff as we know it and the beginning of a new era where some of us will have to start back all over again from scratch. I just tapped into a Skype conversation between Matt Cutts and Mark
          Zuckerberg.

          Here is a partial transcription

Matt: Mark, I just got an email about some dumbass thread over at the WF

          Mark: What's it about?

Matt: Some dorkwad named Bill Platt spreading original content penalty rumors

Mark: Bill Platt...didn't he play the chief on Get Smart?

          Matt: That's Edward Platt.

Mark: I thought he played Oliver Babish on West Wing

Matt: That's Oliver Platt you wingnut.

Mark: But didn't he play Tweedle Dee in March Of The Wooden Soldiers?

Matt: That's Oliver Hardy you jackass. Look, this is serious.

Mark: So what do you want me to do about it?

Matt: I want you to get on that rag of a site of yours and deny the
rumors. Remember, the only reason you've even got a search engine
ranking is because you're sleeping with my cousin Gertrude and you're
the only one desperate enough to go near her. Now get on the horn
          and deny, deny, deny.

Mark: What's the guy's name again?

          Matt: Bill Platt.

          Mark: Didn't he play (click)...Hello? Hello? Matt...you there?...Dickhead.

I just sort of used him as the posterboy because he would likely be one to get caught up in the cornfusion of Bill's Google Original Content Rule and release a $7 version of his own Foolproof Billionaire-creating System after downloading Bill's pirated original from BH World.

Bill can be very subtle at times, and as a result some people fail to see the humor or intent in his posts, resulting in them being very peeved and indignant, which has been absolutely evident in the enraged and furious responses we've seen so far today!

Thanks for the warning, Bill. It makes sense when you think of it. Look how many AP stories get into the top search results, and just about every newspaper reruns their stories.

Meanwhile, stuff that's truly unique gets buried on page 100 of the search results.

It's so frustrating. Just imagine how much wealthier J.K. Rowling would be if she had let everyone copy Harry Potter and just give it away. She'd no doubt be rolling in the dough by now.

Dang Google for punishing originality in this day and age when we really need more of it. But, I guess they are just following Hollywood's example. Bury the unique stuff and hype up the recycled garbage everyone is sick to death of watching.

The most beautiful part is how many Google page one listings this thing will have in its arsenal, as this story continues to develop.

Of course, it will never be as cool as the recent discovery of planet Xectarious Troy by NASA's Orenthal Probe.

Did I hear you say "most beautiful"?

Anyway, it's still part of the rumor.

As long as the Unique Content Penalty rumor remains primarily on the WF, then it will always only be a rumor...

But if some person with an audience pops into the forum and reads only the OP, and communicates the Unique Content Penalty rumor through another website, the rumor will become a story.

Have you ever played the game where 20 people stand in a circle, and the first whispers something, then the second person whispers the story to the third, etc.?

The more people between the source and the story teller, the more likely the story will change and become something that it was never intended to convey.

That is exactly how the Duplicate Content Penalty Myth got started....

And here we are standing upon the precipice of launching another Google search myth, one that could develop a life of its own, but one that Warriors could laugh about until the end of times...

All it is going to take is one person with an audience coming to read about the Unique Content Penalty rumor, as outlined here in the forum, read the post as fact and share the story with the world through their website.

Once this story finds publication somewhere else, outside of the WF, it is outside our control, and a new search engine myth will be born.

We already know through this test that people do come in and read only the original post, and take it at face value as a real Google penalty.

And like Moh said, when he finally realizes that it is a joke, the story will already be in the wild, and he will realize what a Jack Ass he had been.

The morning that I open one of my favorite newsletters and see someone trying to dispel the Unique Content Penalty, I will dance with joy, because suddenly people might stop to realize that the Duplicate Content Penalty is also a myth...

After all, it will be so obvious to people that they will have to stop drinking the kool-aid and start using what God put between their ears, when it comes to making educated decisions about promoting their businesses online...

Bill, this was the very real concern I was voicing out on Dan's thread about the "new" FTC rules. As you've stated above, all it takes is one or two people with a large following to latch on to it, and pretty soon you have myth taking on the appearance of reality.

Disturbing, but very possible. Let's hope that people have the common sense to see that we're only contriving a farce here.

ROFMLAO... I see what you did there Mr. Ex-SEO-Firm Owner

EDIT: I just checked, and this thread is currently on Page 2 (position#12) for the search term Unique Content Penalty...

If someone here who has SEO resources could throw some quick backlinks at it, I'm sure we could bump it to page 1 pretty easily. Come on, let's do it, and get this rummer going for real (for the greater good, of course).

You're absolutely right, Richard. It has been documented for posterity right here in this forum, and as they say everything on the internet is permanent and leaves an indelible mark.

Our achievements will be floating around on the internet for eternity, and we will always be remembered for them!

Original content penalty? Thanks God, finally something effective I can
use to kill my competitors' websites and take over the #1 position
        on a shoestring budget.

        Here's my plan.

Since the majority of #1 websites today are blogs I only need to post
as much original content to their blogs as humanly possible. But since
I'm very lazy I'm going to outsource the original content creation on a
mass scale and get huge discount from content providers.

I'm just not quite sure about the keywords...

Bill, did Matt say anything about targeted original content penalty?

Shell I optimize the original content for my competitors' best keywords?

        Would that kill them faster?

Richard, if you're offering $100 an article for duplicate content writers, you'll have more of them knocking down your door than you know what do with.

You'll need to have some sort of selection criteria to judge them on the basis of their content duplication skills to weed out the inept ones, as you only want the really good duplicators out there.

Exactly Paulie, 100% un-unique or I'm not paying a dime.

A simple copy and paste will suffice.

You probably don't even need to look online for people who can do this. Just visit your average slum area high school and you'll have more candidates than you can shake a stick at.

I don't want cheap $4 an article people. I need high quality duplicate content article writers. Thats why I'm offering $100 an article.

They must be able to copy and paste perfectly. You think anyone can do that? Of course not, it takes time, practise and many years of dedication to copy and paste Paulie. Thats why Google's hammering down on unique content. Any Tom, Dick and Harry can write original content.

In that case, I can refer you to just about any one of the elite private schools here, where students thrive on swift copying and pasting so that it doesn't cut down on their gym time, parties, socializing, sports and leisure time.

They are utterly dedicated to the art of perfect duplication as their very precious leisure time is at stake if they don't reach perfection in this area, and their high grade point averages cannot be sacrificed either.

They are in dire need of pocket money to buy the latest iPads and Prada bags, and will be more than happy to work for you at $100 per article.

                Just a thought.

If I change the title to include "original content penalty", it will help this thread to rank for that term.

But that is only one ranking factor out of more than 100 ranking factors...

I have been doing the SEO thing long enough that I know adding the target keywords to the title would help, but I also know that it is also an unnecessary step to take.

We can rank these pages for the target keywords, without changing the actual URL of the thread. I thought about putting it in the original title, but I opted instead for the curiosity factor.

To prove that the keyword phrase in the title can definitely impact a pages' ranking in Google, check the current results in Google for: new Google penalty, and you will find this thread in the #7 spot. Take note that the target keywords are not at the front of the title, but they are still in the title.

As far as linking signals on specific target keywords, we do not even need to go off-site to get those links. We can build them all from within the Warrior Forum, and still get the job done.

Long live the unique content penalty, and death-be-quick to the Duplicate Content Penalty myth!!!

I knew you were joking, but not everyone reading the thread would see that.

In fact, many would read your joke and then wonder why I did not do as you suggested.

You would be surprised how much planning went into something like this.

I had to pick a topic that would generate interest. I would have to figure out how to build suspense and expose the joke. I had to figure out what keywords to include in the thread. I have to word the title for maximum open rates.

Then I had to schedule it to run when I would actually be around to feed it and to nurture it.

There was actually a full 36 hours of mental planning before I sat down to write it up and release it. Then I wrote it up in half an hour and set it free.

Bill, thanks for the inspiration for yet another classic Wags article.

I wonder how many views that one is going to get.

Okay, I'm having way too much fun with this.

It's curious that they would pluck a phrase from a seemingly random post to use for the description, and I'm still perplexed as to where the rest of that description came from...lol!

However, the reset of the description:

"myth, Myth, myth, myth....oh I give up. ..."

is no where in this thread at all, and was obviously added on manually by someone. At least that's my theory.

Believe it or not, there are 3 results for "unique content penalty" and 2 of
them were posted long before this thread.

So either two people were joking around or stupidly dead serious that such
            a thing would exist.

But Bill, you're right...as this is the # 1 Internet marketing forum on the
planet, this thread just might start something that we're all going to laugh

            Remains to be seen.

I predict that we'll see a flurry of activity in the first two weeks of the New Year. Some IMer is going to read the first few sentences and start panicking, after which he'll post to his blog and let everyone on Twitter/Facebook/his list know about the impending doom from Google...lol!

Just go to some forum and drop a fearful post about the new Google Penalty Rumor (currently #1 in Google), and tell them that they can find out about it in Google.

Let em race to Google and find it. Then race here.

If they are racing to learn about it, they are more likely to be racing to tell the world about it.

Nah... No need to be proactive about it.

It could very well find its way into the world without our tinkering with it.

And honestly, it will be more powerful if it becomes a story on its own.

But that does not mean we should not keep up the fun part of SEO for it... LOL

Bill, I'm almost certain it will. No need for us to do any further work in disseminating this 'news'.

The best advice I would instruct on the SEO is to see which rankings point to internal thread pages, then build links to the first page in the thread with those keywords.

It certainly would be better for example for the ranking on Google Penalty Rumor to point the the first page instead of the fourth page of this thread.

If we are building links, we should try to point to all of the pages in the thread. Yet, the prominent links with bold on the phrase should always go to the first page in the thread.

We want them to find this in the search engines, but it kind of kills the possibilities of the thread becoming a viral story, if the person landing here arrives on a page where the first post on the page clearly states that it is one huge joke...

Between us, the search results description for unique content penalty is actually content that does appear in the thread on page 3...

The first sentence of course is Wags comment... The second part beginning with "Unique content penalty" is what Richard had said on the same page about half-way down the page.

The description was not commented by a Google employee, but it sure does look like that, doesn't it?

      Damn, you're right.

That's what I get for wanting to believe in Google conspiracy theories. Oh well...

I actually searched thread for the text "myth, myth, myth" before coming to the conclusion that Google was out to get you, but obviously I missed that post by Richard.

I still think it's pretty funny that out of all the posts in this thread those are the ones G uses for the description.

I was fooled too, in my rush to look through the posts I had never imagined the possibility that they'd just combine seemingly random statements from the thread in the description. I've never seen this happen before, so it had never even entered my mind yesterday to do a more in-depth search.

The description was not commented by a Google employee, but it sure does look like that, doesn't it?

Bill, any theories on how Google selected those particular sentence snippets to appear in the description?

When they do not find a clear description of a page, such as one could find in a meta tag, they still need to present a description.

So they grab two snippets that look to be talking about variations of the searched word, and blend those two snippets together with an ellipsis ... in between the two snippets.

The snippet from Wags post originally read, "Matt: Some dorkwad named Bill Platt spreading original content penalty rumors".

Richard's snipper from his post read, before we get all het up about the joke that is "Unique content penalty" myth, Myth, myth, myth....oh I give up.

As you can see, both snippets mentioned either the exact search phrase of a synonym of the exact search phrase.

tpw, Dan Rinnert and others need their own "April Fools" forum. I have a sense of humor, but it's hard for me to understand how alarmist misinformation like this helps anyone gain skills in IM.

I mean, there is already so much misinormation on IM, why add more in an attempt to teach people "lessons?" These jokes really damage the credibility of those posting. Can you trust what they say, or will there be some "gotcha" buried in their post?

Those who know me outside of Dan and I's threads of recent days know that I am one of the people, who has spent years trying to dispel the Duplicate Content Penalty Myth, as can be seen on my blog here....

Cathy Shelver was one of the first people to make this connection in her response, and she certainly was not the last one to do so...

People as a rule do not want to be shown that the Duplicate Content Penalty is a myth.

People want to continue to believe in some fantasy like the Dupe Content Penalty against all reason, even when shown the mounds of evidence that proves it false.

Most people, when presented the evidence, may see the possibility that it is a lie, but since they do not understand Google -- and because so many marketers swear that Google is the most important thing in anyone's marketing toolkit -- they often say they will continue to act as if the Duplicate Content Penalty is real, because they "just want to be safe".

How better to show the fence-sitters and the believers the fallacy in their stubborn conviction than to let them believe that there is a Duplicate Content Penalty, then to tell them that there is also a Unique Content Penalty?

In creating a myth that counters another myth in such black-and-white contrast, people may just stop and say, "Wait, if Google's penalizes Duplicate Content AND Original Content, then they penalize EVERYTHING!!" And they may just realize that both are false.

Those who choose to believe both true will throw their hands in the air, and figure they will do for their business whatever THEY need to do to be successful, without concern for Google. In this case, the person duped by my myth here wins.

Those who choose to believe my Original Content Penalty / Unique Content Penalty may decide that they are willing to risk using some Duplicate Content in the development of their business. Again, this reader wins, because they are doing for their business what they think is best for their business with no concern for Google at all.

I am willing to venture that a large majority of the junk content online is there simply because people do believe a Duplicate Content Penalty exists. People jump through dozens of hoops to make sure they don't offend Google's imaginary Duplicate Content Penalty, and in doing so, they crank out tons of useless unique content that will pass a CopyScape check...

In an attempt to defeat the Duplicate Content Penalty, people go to great lengths to get around it, and all the while they are generally hurting their business:

      * They are spending more time and money to develop content, because they are looking for all unique content that will pass CopyScape check, instead of focusing on the syndication of their best, most-productive content.

      * They are spending money to buy software and services to help them speed the article spinning process.

      * They are releasing content that puts their businesses in a bad light, because as has been demonstrated in the WF many times, article spinners produce some really clunky content that reads like a moron wrote it. And they are using this crap to promote THEIR business.

      * They are chasing Google rankings, often excluding the dozens of other advertising methods available to them, because people have told them that Google is all that counts. This fantasy is fed by people who want to sell software and services, based in part on an imaginary Duplicate Content Penalty.

      * More start-up businesses have failed online, because people are solely focused on Google rankings, to the complete exclusion of what may be best for the growth of their businesses.

To leave the Duplicate Content Penalty unchallenged will do more harm to people than any other thing I could choose to do.

To create an Original Content Penalty, I have the opportunity to show people the silliness of the Duplicate Content Penalty, and at the same time to convince them that they should look to develop traffic for their website beyond Google.

After all, only ten websites will land on page one of Google for each and every keyword that people would like to rank.

Some people will never get to page one, ever!!!

Should we let that fruit die on the vine, or give people an opportunity to grow their businesses, without being weighed down by some theory or misconception about Google.

The Original Content Penalty does no harm to people, but it may give them cause to think about their business in whole new ways, using more productive and profitable strategies and advertising methods.

You say this approach brings harm to me. I believe that it brings more people into my following.

I am willing to take the chance that I am wrong.

But if it blows up in my face, that is on me isn't it?

I am not interested in attracting a following from those people who read only my original post.

I only want people in my following that read beyond the original post.

It is a business decision I took, and it is one that I believe to be the correct direction for my business.

      Why, you ask?

People reading my original post, who take it at face value are people who don't use reason when they consider what is best for their businesses. People who read or skim only my first post are people who react, instead of act.

I only want people following me, who make a reasonable effort to get all the facts, to use reason to determine which facts seem more honest, and take action based on what they have learned.

Those reading the first post and taking it at face value are not people that I want to buy from me. I don't want them to buy from me, because they have shown themselves a bit foolish, for not getting all of the facts. And this could only lead to problems for my business later, when those people only read half of the information about my products or service, and then get upset with me for giving them what I said I would give them.

Those who read past the first post have been pre-qualified to join my follower and customer list.

But those people are not yet there.

Those people who read past my first post will either decide: 1) I am an asshole, or 2) they will decide that I am giving real value to people.

Those in the first group should not buy from me, because they are naturally going to be a PITA if and when they buy from me.

The second group are people with whom I can see eye-to-eye. These are folks with whom I can have a relationship based on trust and respect.

I gather you are in the first group of those who read past my first post. That means you are not in my target audience. You have naturally taken the action I wanted you to take. You have disqualified yourself buying from me, and that is a good thing.

If you think me an asshole, you are right. And for this reason, you and I could never get along in a productive manner in a business relationship.

You will be a pain in my ass, and I will be a constant annoyance to you. So rightfully so, you and I will never do proper business together.

      You win and I win.

      Awesome.

For most of the last ten years, I tried to please everyone. But you know what? That only caused me a great deal of aggravation, and created additional problems that hurt my business.

I have learned from the school of hard knocks to pre-qualify my customers. And I have learned if people demonstrate certain traits and characteristics, it is better for me to give a refund, rather than to have to deal with that person in the future.

But it is my business, so it is my choice to decide whom I do business with.

You don't have to like my business model. In fact, I don't care if you don't like my business model.

I decide what is right for my business, and you decide what is right for yours.

If my business model offends you, then punish me by keeping your money out of my bank account.

I promise you, that will make the world a better place to live.

Bill, I am standing up and applauding your last post.

For the record, I could give to sh*ts about Google. You'd have to hunt
like mad to find any of my sites listed anywhere near page 20, let alone
page 1 for a given keyword phrase.

And yet...I get a steady stream of opt ins every single day.

Google is NOT the only game in town. I'm not even convinced it's the best
game in town because you're at their mercy if they decide to shake things
up on you. And don't even get me started on PPC.

Most people will look at the way I run my business and probably call me
an idiot, or at the very least, somebody who isn't taking full advantage of
what the big G has to offer.

That's okay, because as far as I'm concerned, the big G can kiss my big A.

I never needed them, don't need them now and never will need them.

And you can quote me on that.

I have a sense of humour
          Evidently not.

Please don't take this the wrong way Don. If you think about what an "original content penalty" mean't and where it will lead, it would actually spell the end of everything. Copyright would become extinct, EZA would have thousands of the same articles, You'd make a product then I would make exactly the same one and sell it to, word for word, your customers, because thats fine. Spinning articles would be no good as they have some uniqueness. Libraries would be...oh you get the picture.

I'm afraid it's not misinformation, its actually quite clear it's a joke. It's like saying "Nobody come up with anything original, you must copy someone else".

It's pretty obvious Bills taking the p*** out of those that believe in the myth that is duplicate content.

It's so far fetched I'm surprised you didn't see the funny side.

I think Bills enormously eloquent response puts mine to shame and as Steven said, even more eloquently...

That's okay, because as far as I'm concerned, the big G can kiss my big A.

There are so many lessons in these threads for those who can see them.

Some get mad and storm off.

            Others understand the intent.

Others learn the lessons--both the stated lessons and the ones hidden between the lines...

That is a good find Ronak.

I think what saves us at the WF is we are smart enough to stuff all of the same keywords into our posts, using the Quote mechanism.

If it was important enough to say once, it is important enough to say twice or fifty times. LOL

Those of us in the SEO world have long despaired the Dupe Content Penalty, but with the more recent development of the Original Content Penalty, I am pretty sure it will all be downhill from here.

            John,

            The proper tag is rel="rehash".

                Richard,

From my understanding, to make $50k a week by next week you won't need to understand this original content penalty myth at all.

In fact, you won't need a website, hosting, autoresponder, or any of that other bloatware you've been led to believe.

What you will need is a copy of "Seven Ways to Seven Fortunes in Seven Days".

                It's $7.

                It's on the internet.

                Whatever that is.

Well Paul, I guess we don't need to be in the main forum to catch peoples' attention.

First off, Google makes 400 changes to its algorithms each year.

Second, if you are concerned about this particular Google Penalty, I recommend reading the original post again, but this time for clarity and comprehension.

No. Matt Cutts is only rumored to be talking about such things.

I actually am talking about it.

Okay - I was laughing with ya there for awhile, Bill, but maybe we should take a serious look at this.

There's the FCC which gives out major fines for some content, original or not, if it can't be proven factual without a doubt - or if disclaimers are not posted whether they are original or duplicate.

Then you have the DHS which grabs websites if they are linked to certain forms of copyrighted material - their rules aren't really understood for this yet as some of the seized sites were nothing much more than search engines.

Google is known to slam websites with duplicate content.

Posting derogatory crap which actually names who you are talking about can get you slammed off your servers whether or not you are posting original derogatory crap or just a bunch of quotes.

There are lawyers who now sue people for posting news from other sites, completely obliterating "fair use" protocol.

And of course, there are all the thieves and idiots who penalize you for any really great content by stealing it from you.

Seems to me that maybe the best way to avoid any type of penalty for website content - is not to post any.

    I anticipated this all along.

That's why I filled my sites with content stolen from Bill Platt's sites.

So basically: I can create content with other peoples words. That should pretty well cut out the original content penalty. But. What is this rumor about NGP -new graphics penalty
Apparently and of course this is just rumor but apparently ol matt is at it again.

Now you will be fined for duplicate graphics. Yup now you too can experience the mighty hand of G with the new and improved NGP it seems they desire to toss out the original content and high impact graphics of unique nature.

Everyone needs to think and say the same thing. Graphics need to represent that and only that-whatever that is:p The fine is currently 25k and payable to some WD guy whoever that nut is

There is no doubt about it. Google will always create new penalties to tilt the playing field from a less-favored group to a more-favored group.

Between the NGP and the Unique Content Penalty, we find that we must stay on our toes to avoid ending up on the wrong end of Google's discipline.

Well I just wish they'd stick to one algorithm. All this flux is making it very difficult to build that Google dupe SE.

It just keeps getting worse and worse. First the original content penalty, then the no graphics penalty, and now the no digital products penalty!

That's right, any site that sells digital products will soon be banished to the supplemental index where left-handed tires and disinterested assumptions are kept!

Oh woe is us, woe is us.

PS - This is an original lie, unlike Bill's lies, which he just makes up.

I just think this guy usually like to scare us with his "google improvements or algorithms" when it comes to high rankings and at the end of everything we all back to basics backlinks.

Well if Google are preparing a new penalty we will all find out about it sooner or later (hopefully not with our sites vanishing into the nether regions of the search results)
